1 The Toxics Reduction Act (the Act) and associated Ontario Reulation 55/0 (O.Re. 55/0) was introduced in the Province of Ontario in 2010; the Act requires reulated facilities to complete the followin tasks. 1. Track, quantify and report annually on the toxic substances they use, create, release, dispose, transfer and contain in products. 2. Develop plans to reduce the use and creation of these substances. 3. Make annual reports and summaries of their plans available to their employees and the public. 2 Section 2: Prescribed Toxic Substances On-Site 52 toxic substances were identified to be reported on a facility wide basis under O. Re. 55/0 as identified in Table 1 below. These substances are identified in Table 1 below. A summary of the reasons for chanes in quantification of substances between calendar years is also provided below. The increase in Arsenic, Zinc, Lead, Mananese, Cadmium, Selenium and Hexavalent Chromium use can be attributed to the increase in raw wood products purchased. These metals are naturally occurrin and are found in trace quantities in the raw wood products. The increase in air releases of metals was due to an increase in wood consumption. The increase in water releases of nitrate ion was due to an increase in water intake. Concentrations of nitrate ion fluctuate year to year. The increase in water releases of ammonia was due to an increase in effluent dischared. The increase in disposals of PAHs, Dioxins and Furans and metals was due to an increase in use of biomass fuel in place of fossil fuel which increased the on-site disposal of ash containin metals, PAHs and Dioxins and Furans. Section 3: Toxic Substance Reduction Plan Update Plan Objectives, Tarets and Timelines A copy of the Toxic Substance Plans for AV Terrace Bay Inc. are available on the company s website and a hard copy is posted at the mill. No chanes were made to plan objectives, tarets or timelines for the operatin year. No plan amendments were made for the operatin year. 6 Toxic Reduction Accountin Summary Report June 1, 2016
