Biogas Production Biogas is a renewable energy source produced from available organic raw materials and recycled waste. Key benefits include: Cost reduction in: Electricity Heating Waste treatment Waste disposal Revenue from: LGC s Carbon Credits Excess power sale Recovered nutrient sales Environmental benefits, reduction in: Greenhouse gas emissions Harmful pollutants Odours 4

Diverse Value Streams Biogas projects involve the conversion of waste into valuable products. Energy Nutrients Waste reduction Ammonium Sulphate 5

Covered Anaerobic Lagoon Digester Covered Anaerobic Lagoons are the most common solution due to simple civil construction and relatively cheap materials. 6

CAL Digester Flow Plan 7

DVO Two-Stage Mixed Plug Flow Digester DVO Digesters are an advanced concrete tank design with gas injection for heating and mixing, and have been engineered for optimised performance. Advantages of the DVO Digester include: Lower water requirements More suited to add nutrient recovery systems for Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium Capable of handling settled solids in the digester Guaranteed hydraulic retention time of the effluent as the effluent travels directionally from one end to the other 8

Case Study Egg Production Facility Production details 1,, layer hens Poultry manure 25, tpa Egg Wash Water available 3, litres/day Spent hens Power Consumption Grid connected Approx. 5,, h of on-site electricity consumption. Back up diesel generation on site Revenue Streams - Electricity savings - RECs - Spent hen management savings 11

Daily Load Profile Operations and load is primarily during daylight hours. It can be seen high loads are driven by climate control requirements during hot summer days. 1 Daily Load Profile July 1 Daily Load Profile January DA Hall Daily Load Profile - 4x NMI : 2: 4: 6: 8: 1: 12: 14: 16: 18: 2: 22: : : 2: 4: 6: 8: 1: 12: 14: 16: 18: 2: 22: : Daily Load Profile October Daily Load Profile April : 2: 4: 6: 8: 1: 12: 14: 16: 18: 2: 22: : : 2: 4: 6: 8: 1: 12: 14: 16: 18: 2: 22: : 8/1/213 Max Average 1st Percentile 21/1/214 Day Max Average 1st Percentile 12 12

Proposed Solutions Two possible digester solutions, either of which can also be combined with an solar and battery storage capacity. Digester DVO two stage mixed plug flow anaerobic digestion approximately - ~5m high x 2m wide x 7m long OR Covered Anaerobic Lagoon ~7m x 7m digester plus Optional Inclusion of spent hen processing tank ~5m x5m Biogas and heat transfer skid to: Remove impurities from the gas via a scrubber Chill and pressurize the gas for transfer to the generators Heat the anaerobic digestion system Biogas generator and flare Optional Nutrient recovery system for N P K OPTIONAL Solar PV & Storage The installation of 5 of solar PV on chicken shed roofs The installation of 2 / 1, h of battery storage 13

Project Generation Potential The CAL and DVO systems have slightly varying biogas outputs. The following is based on a Covered Anaerobic Lagoon and a solar & battery storage solution. Biogas/Day (m 3 ) Biogas/Hour (m 3 ) Potential Biogas Output 7, 29 5, 5, Yearly Biogas Electricity (h) Potential Solar PV Output Yearly Solar PV + Battery Electricity (h) Total Electricity Supplied (h) 4,, 5 5, 4,5, 4,5, Total Supplied Export to Grid Grid Consumption Exported to Grid (h) 5, 1 m³ of biogas equals.5-.6 l diesel fuel 6 h 22 MJ 2.14 h 35% conversion efficiency 14

Case Study Abattoir Dual Fuel Applications Production details Sheep Abattoir 4, sheep per day ~1. ML effluent water per day 5 days / week Power Consumption 2, h per day 9, GJ per Month Revenue Streams - RECs - Australian Carbon Credit Units Carbon Farming Initiative Waste Water Treatment Methodology - Electricity savings including peak demand charge Solution Covered Anaerobic Lagoon ~9 x 7 m Gas conditioning Dual Fuel Biogas generation system Natural gas connection Control System Biogas/Day (m 3 ) Biogas/Hour (m 3 ) Yearly Biogas Electricity (h) Yearly Natural Gas Consumption (GJ) Yearly Natural Gas Generation (h) 3,5 15 3,, 1 ~1,, 17

Peak and Shoulder Generation The aim of the project is to generate power during Peak and Shoulder Periods as the tariff and demand charges during this time are significantly higher than Off Peak. Abattoir Daily Load Profile Ramp up operations ~4 am Ramp down operations ~2 pm 18

Natural gas blending to meet demand The abattoirs electricity demand is higher than biogas production. Through dual fuelling the entire peak load can be supplied. 5 day a week operation Mains gas Biogas gas Load 19

What Quantum can do for you. Quantum Power is happy to come assess your operation or discuss your expansion and greenfield development plans to assess the suitability for an anaerobic digestion project. First steps include: Site and project assessment Load analysis Feedstock analysis Delivery of Preliminary Proposal Quantum's preferred option is to develop the project under a Build Own Operate Maintain model. We will: Arrange all relevant development and environmental approvals Design Construct and Operate the biogas system Sell the power to you under a long term Power Purchase Agreement Negotiate ARENA funding if applicable Register the project for RECs and ACCU where applicable You will have all the benefit of reduces electricity prices, insulation from rising tariffs, improved waste management with Zero upfront capital costs. 2
