2 2 China is promoting Clean Heating China is the world s largest user of district heating solutions DH/DC in China is not understood as a similar type of concept than in Finland Building level solutions are still rare Energy is wasted because of area pricing mechanism Non fossil fuel sources are in a center new DH/DC 5 year national strategy First time China has separately a 5-years plan for Geothermal energy development Currently China s geothermal heating/cooling area (include Shallow geothermal energy and water source heat pumps) is approx million m 2 China is to almost triple that to 1300 million m 2 geothermal heating/cooling area by 2020

3 3 DH/DC part of the new 5 year plan Everyone's knows the Beijing air pollution problems, but the problem is not Beijing but the areas surrounding it Jing-Jin-Ji (Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei) region is planning to add 228 million m 2 of shallow geothermal solutions & 212 million m 2 water source heat pump solutions The estimated total investments within capital region will reach around 20 billion for shallow geothermal technologies and 10 billion for water source heat pump solutions during the current 13 th 5-years. 7 7 Current DH potential in China BDHG (Beijing District Heating Group) is planning a Sino-Finland cooperative pilot in Haidian district Beijing. The project covers around 65 KM2 Regional Energy Supply project for Nanjing South New Town Building Level Substation projects such as in Henan Xin Xiang and Hebei Tangshan Arxan district heating upgrade project will start planning next year. The Xiong an New Area south of Beijing will bring good business opportunities for Finnish DH/DC companies.

8 8 How to go forward in China Collaboration is the key in China Finnish Energy Club s approach is part of the Finnish and China Government's Flex Energy Project Flex energy is divided by 3 streams Mini and micro grids and grid flexibility Innovative DH/DC solutions Demand side optimization Next steps are project evaluations, project planning and project implantation
