2 Newsletter - European Observatory for, and in Eni June n.1 Eni s tried and tested Industrial Relations model, based on sharing and engagement, is further endorsed by the content of this newsletter, published as part of the activities conducted by the European Observatory for, and in Eni, that was set up under the terms of an agreement with the IndustriALL European Trade Union and the General and National Secretariats of FILCTEM CGIL, FEMCA CISL and UILTEC UIL. Unlike some, we believe that talking about HSE is not a necessary evil : today, safety culture and health and environmental protection are the pillars of a sustainable business model. When deciding on the content for this first issue, reluctantly, we had to choose certain articles and leave out others that were just as interesting. We mention this so that you can appreciate just how much material Eni produces in-house on HSE matters and additional (in-depth) studies and performance analyses are added to the pile every day. All this with a precise objective in mind: to inform. To inform Eni staff and stakeholders; to ensure everyone s engagement in corporate activities and explain projects. To spread, for example, a safety culture: continuing a consolidated trend, last year Eni reduced the Total Recordable Injury Rate by around 7% compared to For more than three years, it has been the Oil & Gas industry s best performer, achieving in our country an injury rate 10 times lower than the average of other industrial sectors. Then, we should not forget the commitment with regard to environmental issues: oil spill prevention and management, lower consumption of freshwater sources in favour of reinjection techniques, environmental remediation handled by Syndial. And this is not all: early diagnosis for employees and development, in the countries where Eni operates, of a health culture, to mention just a few of its corporate health philosophy principles. However, leaving aside statistics and financial efforts, we would like to stress that the real investment is understanding the need to put people at the centre; and the only way to put them at the centre is to ensure they are conscious and abreast of developments. For this reason, in 2017 alone, Eni provided 384,000 hours of training on HSE matters (+30% over 2016). We therefore believe that the spirit of the Monitoring Centre is this: to encourage us to unite often faraway worlds on important issues. To make us see industrial relations as a key aspect to creating a shared HSE vision. We hope that this newsletter, the first of many, fulfils all these things: we think so. We hope you enjoy reading! 3 culture Eni s commitment to promote safety culture. Newsletter - European Observatory for, and in Eni Eni has always had an ongoing commitment to promote safety culture as an essential value to be shared with employees, contractors and local communities. The objective is that when performing their duties, everyone leads by example as far as safety is concerned: everyone can set an example by implementing good practices at all times. In order to achieve this objective, Eni is concentrating its efforts on several key levers, in particular, shaping behaviour, breaking bad habits and promoting good practices, instilling a safety-first mentality. The goal is the complete elimination of accidents at work involving employees and contractors and, every day, everyone working at and for Eni helps to achieve this objective. In order to pursue this goal, measures and actions have been developed that will allow safe and healthy habits to be adopted in all working environments and in life in general. More specifically, since 2014, Road Shows have been organised at industrial sites in Italy and abroad, safety awareness events where Eni top management meets employees and contractors to demonstrate its commitment to this issue. Furthermore, following analysis of accidents occurring within Eni, awareness campaigns have been run regarding working at height, crushing and impact hazards, as well preventing driving injuries, hand injuries and injuries in general by encouraging the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Great emphasis has also been placed on sharing experiences: this has led to the launch of the Inside Lesson Learned project that aims to develop new ways of sharing lessons learned, using video clips created by internal resources and based on accidents that have actually occurred in order to prevent a recurrence.

4 Newsletter - European Observatory for, and in Eni Editorial The 10 Golden Rules home awareness campaign Eni s commitment to widespread Culture has led to the creation of a new campaign to promote safe behaviour in all working environments and in life in general. Starting with the 10 Golden Rules, indicating the correct modus operandi for those working at Eni and for Eni at any operating site in the world, videos have been made featuring colleagues involved in day-to-day activities in situations whe- re we feel safest and most protected, i.e. at home (@ home). Each month, a video illustrates how these Golden Rules find practical application in many occasions of daily life. The aim is to ensure that the Golden Rules become common practice for everyone, both at work and home!

5 HSE Performance - Occupational safety Our objective is zero accidents at work. Everyone working at and for Eni helps to achieve this objective every day Newsletter - European Observatory for, and in Eni The Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR), i.e. the number of lost work day, restricted work day and medical treatment cases per million staff hours, is an international indicator of a business on-the-job safety performance. In 2016 Eni was major oil & gas company best performer for the fourth year running, with a TRIR of 0.35, i.e., an injury occurs at Eni once every 3 million hours worked (the equivalent of a medium-size refinery). In 2017, the TRIR showed further improvement over 2016 of 7%. At present, the Agreement involves 1,932 businesses and 27,472 workers. 15,372 inspections to check that businesses have correctly applied the implementing instruments of the Agreement. Implementation of lessons learned system involving more than 12,000 employees and 5,500 contractors. 2017: -19% vs 2016 injuries with absence exceeding 30 days POSITION AS WORLD LEADER IN THE O&G SECTOR FURTHER CONSOLIDATED Using Smart PPE (IoT - Internet of Things technology for the HSE sector), in partnership with ICT, trials took place at the EniPower site in Ferrera Erbognone (during November December 2017). Positive results for every application scenario were achieved. These results were transferred to the Eni Digital Program that is being implemented as part of the Four-Year Business Plan.

6 Eni decarbonisation strategy Eni accepts the scientific evidence on climate change and supports the Paris Agreement Newsletter - European Observatory for, and in Eni Eni has drawn up a decarbonisation strategy integrated into its business model, in order to lessen its climate impact and reduce the risks associated with climate change, this being based on three pillars: reduction of direct GHG (greenhouse gas) atmospheric emissions; low carbon portfolio by using natural gas as a fossil source with a low carbon content; increasingly higher investments in renewables and green downstream. As regards actions aimed at reducing direct GHG emissions, in 2015 the Eni Board of Directors approved a 2025 Climate Change Action Plan that sets three ten-year direct GHG reduction targets compared to 2014: a 43% reduction in Upstream emission intensity; an 80% reduction in upstream fugitive methane emissions; zero process flaring. Eni plays an active role in the main international climate initiatives. These include the CEO-led Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) which aims to lead the industry response to climate change. Eni is one of 5 founding members of the initiative that was launched in 2014 and today comprises 10 companies that represent more than 20% of global oil and gas production. Eni remains committed to a global course of action on carbon pricing in order to promote natural gas as a bridge solution to the climate challenge and assist the switch from coal to gas in electricity generation. Along with other O&G companies, it is a member of the World-Bank-Group-backed Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition that aims to promote dialogue between government and business all over the world.

7 Off the coast of Norway, Goliat The first oil field to start production in the Barents Sea Newsletter - European Observatory for, and in Eni Goliat has been developed using the world s largest and most sophisticated Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit, built using state-of-the-art technology in order to tackle the technical and environmental challenges of working in Arctic conditions, with a storage capacity of 1 million barrels of oil. The cylindrical floating structure contains a production facility, crude oil storage capacity and living quarters, where the water used is reinjected into the reservoir ( zero discharge operations target) and the oil produced is temporarily stored in the structure before being transferred to refineries using tankers. Goliat s innovative approach can also be seen in the energy supply process with some electricity received via a submarine power cable from onshore and the rest generated on board the facility. Development has also led to an improvement in oil spill contingency apparatus along the coast of Finnmark for prevention, detection and clean-up. The oil spill contingency system has been adapted to suit the coast: for the first time, the fleet of local fishing vessels plays an essential role on the Norwegian scene. This is the result of a longstanding partnership between Eni, the northern section of the Norwegian Fishermen s Association, project partner Statoil and the Norwegian Clean Seas Association for Operating Companies.

8 HSE Performance - GHG Emissions Eni is committed to cutting its direct emissions by targeting a 43% reduction in Upstream GHG emission intensity by 2025 compared to 2014 Newsletter - European Observatory for, and in Eni GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions consist of 6 gases: carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), methane (CH4), sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) and perfluorocarbons (PFC). The individual contribution to the enhanced greenhouse effect of each gas compared to CO2 is calculated (i.e. its Global Warming Potential - GWP). For example, a ton of methane is equivalent to 25 tons of CO2, a ton of N2O is equivalent to 298 tons of CO2 and so on. The (weighted) value associated with the global warming potential of all the above-mentioned greenhouse gases released during the production cycle is thus expressed as CO2eq (CO2 equivalent). The increase was entirely due to higher output. Methane emissions (around 80% of which were fugitive emissions) were 39.3% lower following intervention in the UPS and GLP divisions (routine maintenance carried out at sites already being monitored and extension of census to new sites). In line with its decarbonisation strategy, during 2017 Eni purchased and cancelled forestry credits in the international market totalling 680,193 tons of CO2eq. The historical reduction trend in the GHG emission index for upstream production is in line with the public reduction target of 43% by 2025 compared to During the period , the KPI has already been reduced by 15%, well below the linear trajectory that would have required a 12% reduction. The main KPI reduction driver regards methane emissions, whose emission factor has been halved compared to 2016, thanks to the ongoing commitment to carry out on-site monitoring campaigns in order to verify fugitive methane emissions.

9 e Sicurezza Ambiente Salute in Eni Eni considers health a fundamental human right associated with a person s biological, psychological and social wellbeing Newsletter Osservatorio Europeo per la Salute, Sicurezza e Ambiente in Eni The main objectives of Eni health projects are: to improve the population health status in the areas involved through local health service development schemes, focusing on growth of human resources (medical and organisational skills) and consolidation of organisations, health infrastructures, equipment and transport, and the introduction of empowerment with information and communication activities to facilitate access to health care for employees, by integrating the company s services with the superior ones provided by local health authorities to create the conditions necessary to maintain the health improvements implemented as a vital prerequisite to human rights and independent, sustainable development to strengthen the cooperation between the company and its partners at all levels, including local and national government, health authorities and civil society. Promotion of health as a culture Promoting health means spreading a health culture and implementing a process that allows people to exercise greater control over their health, thus improving it. This represents a complementary strategy to the one for health protection. The approach is based on helping employees to adopt healthy and responsible behaviour patterns. To this end, the health promotion activities are aimed at two target groups: employees and communities of the countries in which we operate, concentrating on the prevention of risk factors, both primary (discouraging smoking and drinking, encouraging physical activity and a correct diet, etc.) and those linked to specific diseases (prevention of cancer, cardiovascular and infectious diseases, etc.). The success of these programmes depends on a synergetic approach between the various corporate departments involved.

We have launched the Eni wellness program, a communication campaign to promote correct lifestyles and Myto (my trainer on line), an interactive programme for mental and physical wellbeing targeting the specific characteristics and requirements of Eni staff in order to help them adopt or maintain a lifestyle in keeping with the principles of prevention. Myto offers Eni staff: a team of experts (sports doctors, wellness coaches and trainers) who trace a physical and mental profile of each employee, use it as the basis for customised training programmes, designed to meet individual characteristics and requirements, and monitor progress. tools such as diaries (about diet, exercise, smoking and drinking and wellness activities) to increase each individual s awareness of his or her lifestyle and improve it where necessary. Community health: an ongoing commitment In line with local health policies and international best practices, Eni organises special events to improve the health conditions and promote the wellbeing of these communities. In this area, Eni s commitment serves two purposes: on the one hand, to facilitate exploration, production and access to energy, on the other hand, to promote specific projects capable of meeting the overriding needs of the area in which it operates.
