5 05 Message from the President As the saying goes, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Since the establishment, Huaneng Power International, Inc has devoted itself to accelerating China s power industry and been dedicated to giving China s coal-fired power industry a push towards sustainable development. We have set up many typical milestones for developing the power industry in our country, and also contributed a lot to satisfying the need for the economic and social development and people s demands on power supply in life. In the process, Huaneng has successfully become the domestically largest and best-performing power generation company listed in three cities at home and abroad based on three external conditions and three internal factors, including the correct leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, the extensive power market, and great support from all walks of life, and constantly improved corporate governance structure, unceasingly reinforced business management and growing talented workforce. Like an organism, Huaneng Power International, Inc not only absorbs from the community what is vital for growth, but also we must unceasingly repay it to create a more harmonious development environment, where we can absorb more growing power to upgrade the life cycle and form a harmonious social eco-system. To this purpose, Huaneng is aiming to be a best-performing and well-reputed corporate, strive to look beyond commercial purposes of our own, and combine self development with the all-round and coordinated development of environment and th e community. Oriented in a basic industry vital for the energy safety of the nation and lifelines of the national economy, Huaneng International is engaged in the public utilities that are closely related to the national well-being and the people s livelihood, so it shoulders great responsibilities for constructing a harmonious society. To fulfill the responsibilities for environmental protection, we strive to make the surroundings clean, ensure efficient resource utilization and conservation, and build an eco-friendly enterprise. As for our responsibilities for employees, we care for them and protect their lawful rights and promote the co-development of the enterprise and employees. In the aspect of our social responsibilities, we enlarge cooperation and promote the Win-Win mode for mutual benefits, lead the technological progress in the sector, ensure interests of all stakeholders, and try to be an excellent corporate citizen. global financial crisis. Three pieces of basic experience are summarized from fifteen years development of Huaneng Power International: first of all, clear direction and scientific development; secondly, unceasing innovation and pioneering spirit; thirdly, multilateral cooperation and Win-Win altitude. Through a series of activities of putting scientific development strategy into practice, Huaneng International has further define its development concept: guided by scientific development view, create new advantages and make new breakthroughs; based on three pieces of basic experience, take a sustainable development road featured by high technology, fine economic profits, low resource consumption and excellent environmental protection; we aim to be listed as a top power generation company featured by distinct regional advantages, advanced power generation technology and management mechanism, perfect governance structure, efficient collaborative development, stable basic management, state-ofart corporate culture, excellent talents, reasonable resource allocation, extensive cooperation and Win-Win altitude, best asset quality and business performance, and most social contributions, etc. Nowadays, the international community has reached a broad consensus on developing low-carbon and green economy on the basis of low energy consumption, pollution and emissions. Responding to climate change has been put into the national economic and social development plan by China in order to rapidly develop green economy and new economic growth points featured by low carbon emission. We will follow the global trend and meet the national requirements. We also will actively implement the action plan for green development, take a way to green, lowcarbon and cyclic development. We are motivated to combine inheritance and innovation and play the leading role in the sector so as to achieve sustainable development. We are honored to present our sustainability report here. We ll further enhance our communication with stakeholders and improve the social responsibility management system. We ll conduct self examination according to the requirements for sustainable development and appropriately fulfill our social responsibilities with a view to make great contributions to boosting all-round, coordinated and sustainable development of economy and the community. 6 06 07 Company Overview Power Plants Distribution of HPI Business Development Founded on June 30, 1994, Huaneng Power International, Inc is a share-holding corporation established by seven local investment firms as united by Huaneng International Power Development Corporation with a total installed capacity of 2900MW and the total asset of 11.7 billion RMB Yuan. Registered in Beijing, China, the Company is specialized in investing in, constructing and operating power plants, and supplying sufficient, reliable and environmental-friendly power to consumers through grid enterprises of the locality where power plants are located. The stocks of Huaneng Power International were listed respectively on NYSE, SEHK and SSE in 1994, 1998 and We are the first power generator enterprise listed in three cities at home and abroad in China. Our power generation businesses consist of our domestic Northeast Power Grid, North China Grid, Northwest Power Grid, East China Grid, Central China Grid, and South Grid. We also have a whollyowned electric power company in Singapore. Up to Dec. 31, 2009, we have been one of the largest power generation corporations listed in China, with an equity installed power generation capacity of 45340MW, a controlled installed power generation capacity of 48548MW, and a total asset of billion Yuan. China s First-rate Power generation Company As a power generation company, Huaneng Power International has adhered to innovation in technology, system and management and fulfilled many No.1 and milestone projects in the domestic sector, which apparently give a forceful push to the leap-forward development of China s power industry and lead to technological progress of the power plant euipment manufacturing industry as well as the improvement of the management capability of Chinese power generation companies. We have created many No.1 records in the sector, including the following construction projects: localized supercritical or ultra-supercritical direct air cooling coal-fire power generator units in China with a unit capacity of 600MW (supercritical), 1000MW (ultra-supercritical), 600MW (ultra-supercritical), 350MW (supercritical), and 600MW (supercritical); the flue gas desulphurization device for the coal-fired thermal power generator unit; we are also the first enterprise that has adopted the integration technology of desulphurization combining flue gas stack with cooling tower, utilized municipal sewerage deeply treated for power generation, and constructed the production line for deep processing of desulphurization gypsum and CO2 capture system for the coal-fired generation units. Huaneng Dalian Power Plant is the first one honored as the top-ranking thermal power plant in China. In 2000, We were granted the title of the top-ranking electric power company in China by the former State Electric Power Corporation. Make Contribution to the Construction of Harmonious Society Huaneng International focuses on improving economic benefits and shareholder returns, resource conservation and environmental protection, and sustainable development of the coal-fired thermal power industry. 8 10 11 Corporate Governance As a public corporation listed in three cities at home and abroad, Huaneng Power International all along attaches great importance to improving the corporate governance structure. We promote the innovation in our corporate system, governance mechanism and management while unceasingly enhancing our standardized and lean management. We are dedicated to improving the transparency of our governance rules in order to provide assurance in the system and mechanism for our corporate governance and promote the high-quality governance. Internal and Risk Control Huaneng Power International has constantly improved the business development capability, competence and risk resistance capability. We also have followed the regulators requirements, and finally have improved and effectively conduct internal control based on our management situation. Internal Control and Risk Management System of HPI Corporate Governance Structure Huaneng Power International strictly complies with the Corporate Law of the People s Republic of China and other related laws and regulations and actively responds to the requirements of regulators. Our corporate governance structure consists of the general conference of shareholders, the board of directors, the board of supervisors, and management team, all of which are systematically improved from the aspects of our articles of association, management framework, institutional system, working rules and management process, etc. We also have established an operation mechanism in which the owner, the legal person and operators perform their own responsibilities and functions and mutually supervise each other for coordinated operation of the company, so as to ensure our management team can effectively deal with routine businesses as authorized. The number of independent non-executive directors in our board of directors accounts for 1/3 of the board members, which further ensures legal rights and interests of our stockholders, especially the minority stockholders, and also further broadens the horizon of our decision-makers and improves their ability of making scientific decisions. We have gradually improved working regulations applicable to various special committees under the board of directors, so that they can fulfill their duties better duties and responsibilities. We conduct all-around risk analysis once every six months and submit a report to the management; we conduct the monthly business operation analysis and weekly routine meeting for scheduling safe production, marketing and fuel to promptly and comprehensively analyze business risks and investigate solutions; It is an important approach for Huaneng Power International to unceasingly enhance the systematic, standardized and lean business management in order to continuously improve the corporate governance. Our management systems and working process are appropriately reviewed every year according to the regulators requirements and actual operation needs, and go through examination and approval procedures stipulated and complete necessary modification and revision properly within the limit of authority. Additionally, various systems and rules are formulated in time and strictly conducted in order to ensure our business operation can get closer to standardization. In 2009, with the establishment of our tertiary management system, we revised over 200 internal management systems accordingly. Process Control promptly monitor the execution of our business management system by setting up a comprehensive internal control system to prevent any accident risk in daily operation due to failure to follow the system or working process; Information and Communication Ensure smooth internal and external information exchange and communication by setting up a perfect internal information system and standard external liaison channels; Supervision and Audit Set up a comprehensive internal performance supervision system and the internal and externalcombined special audit system to complete an effective internal control mechanism together with the internal control system. In 2009, we finished 291 audit projects including the audit of economic responsibilities of leaders within their terms of office, special fuel audit, infrastructure construction process audit, and internal control audit of equivalent level, appropriately playing the immune system function of the internal control. 9 12 13 Anti-corruption and Advocacy for Integrity Sustainable Development Strategy and Action Huaneng Power International attaches much more importance to and is actively engaged in anti-corruption, anti-fraud and resistance to business bribery. Starting from warning education, management system and process, and supervision measures, we have constructed an effective system for anti-corruption, anti-fraud and resistance to business bribery as well as an effective monitoring and punishment system. We supervise the implementation of relevant internal management systems through the internal control system to ensure strict compliance with the management process. Meanwhile, we follow relevant national regulations to enhance our anticorruption efforts and promote the anti-corruption education, and to reinforce our supervision and inspection of system implementation. In 2009, in combination with special projects of addressing prominent problems, our focus was on the implementation of the Measures for the Implementation of Working Plan for Establishing and Improving the Punishment and Anti-corruption System, and we steadily promoted the establishment of our supervision, punishment and anticorruption system. Investor Relations Management (IRM) With a purpose of ensuring legal rights and interests of investors and improving the corporate governance level, Huaneng Power International attaches great importance to the management of investors relations. According to applicable laws and the securities regulation of the place where we are listed, we have specifically stipulated the Administrative Measures on Information Disclosure by Listed Companies and the Regulation on Investor Relationship Management. We have promptly adjusted our systems. In order to ensure the practical implementation of our management systems, we have set up an information disclosure management system consisting of the Chairman of the board, the Secretary of the board of directors, the chief accountant, the information disclosure committee, the information disclosure team, heads of various functional offices, directors of affiliated units, and other relevant personnel. The board of supervisors is responsible for supervising information disclosure in the company so as to ensure that we always promptly and exactly disclose information according to the information disclosure control and procedure, and maintain and improve our credit standing and image in the capital market. With our continuous business development and intensified competition in the sector, we constantly expand communication channels with a view to better satisfy diversified needs of different investors. We have built an investor exchange platform including achievement presentation, non-deal roadshow, the general conference of shareholders, investment forum, small one-on-one meeting, reverse roadshow, daily visit and teleconference, etc to have all-around and sufficient idea exchange ideas and communication with domestic and foreign investors and maintain close and good interaction with the capital market. Promoting the Construction of the Tertiary Management System With development of and change in the power market, we actively promote the construction of the tertiary management system (company regional branch local enterprise) to effectively respond to regional competition. In 2009, we put our efforts in organization construction, staff in place, responsibility fulfillment and system establishment, formulated and carried out the Management Functions of Regional Branches (tentative). Through definite management authorization, we have specified and fulfilled responsibilities of regional branches, standardized the management of regional branches, and established a primary tertiary management system. The establishment of regional branches has helped to increase our achievements in 2009 and gain resources for our development.

10 14 15 Background and Strategy of Sustainable Development Sustainable Development Action The power generation industry is an important infrustructure industry and public utility service vital to the national well-being and the people s livelihood. For a considerably long period, our national resource situation has decided that power supply would mainly depend on coal-fired thermal power. It is absolutely necessary to develop efficient, reliable, eco-friendly and lowconsumption power, strive to increase the ratio of clean energy and the energy conversion efficiency, and actively promote the harmonious social development in order to realize sustainable development in the power generation industry. China Huaneng Group (CHNG) has proposed the strategic development philosophy of thoroughly applying the scientific outlook on development and maintaining the comprehensive strength in the leading position of the sector. Accordingly, we have determined the strategic positioning electric power-centered, coal-rooted, financial support, leading technology, industry cooperation, and building Huaneng as a comprehensive energy group with international competence. We also spare no efforts to improve our comprehensive strength for the strategic purpose of perfectly unifying strengths together, including a large-scale asset, large market share, great social contributions, outstanding profitability, competence and sustainability for development. As a core enterprise in the key industry of CHNG, Huaneng Power International plays an important role in CHNG s process of achieving the comprehensive strategic objective and building a large conglomerate with international competence. 12 18 19 Economic Responsibility Offering Long-term, Steady and Growing Returns to Shareholders Endeavor for Income Increase and Cost Reduction We use a quantitive method to determine the key index group that may influence our benefits by means of financial and risk analysis, so as to prepare our operation guidelines, working objectives, plans and measures accordingly. Background/Concept/Performance 2009 was shrouded in the global financial crisis. However, China s overall economy has a good trend. The recovery of our domestic demand in the power market provides a unique opportunity for the operation and development of Huaneng Power International. We insist on the guideline of intensive operation and sound development and take the way of increasing incomes, reducing costs, and turning losses into gains. We make full use of our marketing system, fuel management system and cost control system, and further promote the comprehensive benchmarking. All these efforts are useful to significantly improve our business performance. Meanwhile, we also strengthen the infrastructure construction management and actively begin the capital operation. We accelerate the adjustment of the power supply structure and deployment and steadily promote oversea development. Enhance Marketing Adhering two marketing focuses of ensuring the increase of generated power and the benefit and performance objectives, we spare no efforts to improve our capability of increasing generated power and achieve the excellent capability of settling the electric power price. Improve the Growing Capacity of Generated Power We have set up the coordination and supervision team for regional power capacity to provide more diversified instructions for key regions, power plants and links. We also organize the Company s branches and directly-controlled power plants to conduct benchmarking by focusing on major indicators. The working mechanism of daily tracking, weekly notification, monthly analysis and quarterly summary has been established to ensure the increase in generated power. In 2009, we successfully realized the annual power generation plan with 11 regions outperformed their annual tasks. The utilization hours of coal-fired thermal power generator units in 12 regions exceeded the average level of the local thermal power generator units that were uniformly tracked and coordinated. Achieve Excellent Capability of Settling the Electric Power Price we are rooted on achieving the power prices of newly-delivered units and desulphurization and transformation units, take the way of optimizing the structure of generated power, enhance communication and coordination with all parties involved, and improve the capability of settling the electric power in alternative, transferred, and cross-regional or provincial trading. In 2009, with the average settled power price of our coal-fired power plants up to Yuan/MWh, we achieved a good settlement capability. Do Our Best to Control Costs To effectively control coal costs, we put all-around efforts, including stabilizing major domestic supply channels, expanding the import of coal with good quality and low price, promoting direct supply and distribution of coal to be shipped by water, making full use of three ports Qinhuangdao, Jingtang and Yingkou, admixing lignite from Jalainur Coal Mine affiliated to CHNG, and accelerating the construction of digital coal yards. In 2009, the unit fuel cost of power sold by our coal-fired power plants was Yuan/MWh, accounting for a year-on-year reduction of 13.73%. We have devoted greater efforts to control financial costs, and saved an interest expenditure of about 700 million Yuan by means of the overall plan of resources, channel expansion, innovation and financing, and improved management; by conducting the cleaning of costs, we have achieved the goal of reducing four expenditures of four items in 2009 by over 5% compared with the budget at the beginning of that year.

13 20 21 Optimized Development of Power Industry In 2009, we adhered to the industry development strategy of reasonable deployment, structural adjustment, leading in technology, focus on environmental protection, channel expansion and extensive cooperation and the industry development guideline of equal attention to the green field and extension projects, to the development and acquisition plans, to coal/water/gas and electricity, and to any other feasible energy. In this way, our regional deployment, power supply and installed structures have been effectively adjusted. Ratio of our domestic coal-fired power generator units with 600MW or above 600MW controlled capacity of to the total domestic controlled installed capacity Optimize the Power Supply Structure The ratio of the controlled capacity of our domestic coal-fired thermal power generator units featured by large capacity, high parameter and low emission to the total controlled installed capacity ranged from 41.4% in 2008 to 44.06% in 2009; our wind power installed capacity started from nothing. Huade Wind Power Plant in Inner Mongolia built and delivered in the same year had a controlled installed capacity of 49.5MW. Besides, the wind power planst in Qidong, Jiangsu province were acquired by us, with a controlled wind power installed capacity of 91.5MW; Xiangqi Hydro Power Plant in Hunan with a planned installed capacity of 80MW is in steady progress. In 2009, our seven power supply projects with a total capacity of MW were approved. The capacity of clean energy projects accounted for about 6.2% % Optimize the Regional Deployment In 2009, we finished the ownership acquisition through capital operation, including Huaneng Beijing Co-generation Power Plant Co., Ltd, Tianjin Huaneng Yangliuqing Thermal Power Co., Ltd, and Huaneng Qidong Wind Power Generation Co., Ltd. Our service area has been expanded to Beijing and Tianjin; we signed agreements with Shandong Electric Power Group Corp and Shandong Luneng Development Group Co., Ltd regarding acquiring the stock equity of nine companies and the development rights of partial preliminary power projects. Our main assets in 2009 included the integrated coal and electric power projects, thermal power plants, coal transport wharfs and ships, etc. All these efforts have further consolidated our position in the power market of Shandong and improved our resource assurance capability. Our service area will be expanded to Yunnan. Ratio of the number of our domestic ultra-supercritical coal-fired power generator units with 1000MW controlled capacity to the total number of same units in China

14 22 23 Infrastructure Project Management We adhere to implement the infrastructure construction guideline of high quality high speed and low price. We thoroughly satisfy the requirements for infrastructure construction, that is, safety, speed, high quality, resource saving, and low price. We also intensify the awareness action, speed, result and honor, constantly improve our capability of safe and civilized construction on site and our readiness level of production and management, and make full use of our integral resource advantages and professional management strength. In 2009, we not only completed the construction and delivery plan of 9 thermal power generator units and 33 wind power generator units, with a total installed capacity of 5832MW. meanwhile, we created a new record in the unit construction schedule and quality, and greatly reduced the construction price. Huaneng Yuhuan Power Plant Project is the only coal-fired project honored the Top 100 Classical and Excellent Projects jointly appraised by China Construction Association and 11 industry construction associations, and granted by the appraisal committee of such 100 projects. Phase 1 of Huaneng Haimen Power Plant has been built and put into service. It is the first domestic power generator unit project of million kilowatt class in which the side coal bunker and the seawater desulphurization process have been applied. No.2 unit is typical in CHNG because its completion indicated the installed capacity of China Huaneng group exceeds 90 GW. It took 9 days for No.1 unit of Huaneng Haimen Power Plant to complete the entire unit start-up to 168h full-load operation finished. A new record was made for the commissioning of domestic coal-fired thermal power generator units of million kilowatt class. No.1 unit has been operated safely and stably for 100 days after being delivered, and demonstrated a high-quality case of unit construction. No.3 unit of Huaneng Jinling Power Plant has been built and put into service. It is the first domestic digital power generator unit of million kilowatt class in which the field bus control technology has been applied comprehensively. Its construction schedule is twenty months and twenty-seven days. It has made great contributions to the installed capacity of CHNG. After its construction, the installed capacity of CHNG has exceeded 100 million kilowatts MW Co-generation Project of Huaneng Yingkou Thermal Power Plant has been constructed and put into service within 15 months, setting a new record in the construction schedule of similar units in the cold northern region. Phase 2 of Huaneng Jinggangshan Power Plant has been built and put into service. It is the first domestic 660 MW ultra-supercritical power generator unit in which the side coal bunker has been applied. The safe and stable operation period of No.4 unit has exceeded 100 days after delivery. Our 49.5 MW wind power generation project in Huade, Inner Mongolia was designed, constructed and delivered for service in the same year.

15 24 25 Steady Overseas Development The execution of the strategy of going global is significant for Huaneng Power International to become a top-ranking listed power generation company. In 2008, we successfully acquired 100% shares of Singapore TUAS Power and became a key participant in the power generation and electric power retail market of Singapore. In 2009, TUAS Power externally optimized its market bidding strategy and developed good retail clients. It maintained the stable unit operation and strengthened cost control internally. In that case, it created the best business performance compared with the same period in its history, with its profit after taxation reaching million SGD. In November 2009, Singapore TUAS Power held the commencement and ground breaking ceremony for its Tembusu poly-generation project, marking a new breakthrough of Huaneng Power International s development in Singapore.

16 26 27 Safety Responsibility Building an Intrinsically Safe Enterprise Background/Concept/Performance With the important responsibility for the national energy assurance, the power generation industry is a crucial basic industry closely related to the national interest and people s livelihood. Meanwhile, electric power production has more risks because of high voltage, high temperature, much more noise and dust generated during the power generation process. Thus, such posts ask for highly responsible staff with higher professional skills. As a power generation enterprise, Huaneng Power International regards safe production as the foundation for fulfilling the social responsibilities. We all along thoroughly implement the guideline of safety first, prevention-focused, and comprehensive control, and persist in the core philosophy of human-oriented and safe development. 18 30 31 Energy Conservation, Consumption Reduction and Resource Protection Emission Reduction and Clean Development Increase Large Units and Reduce Small Units In 2009, our company continued to actively push forward the Increase Large Units and Reduce Small Units work for the coal-fired thermal power generator units. The small generator units with the capacity of 780 MW were shut down. 7 generator units with capacity of 600 MW and above each were put into production, including three 1000 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired generator units. At the end of 2009, our company had shut down (removed) small generator units with the capacity up to MW cumulatively and fulfilled 290% of the shut-down capacity specified in the Letter of Responsibility for the Shut-down of Small Thermal Power Generator Units during the Period of the 11th Five-Year Plan signed with the state. Energy Saving and Technical Modification Our company consistently carried out the special rectification work for many items of equipment, increased the funds investment in the energy saving and technical modification, pushed forward the equipment optimization administration and enhanced the performance indexes of generator units. In 2009, our company approved the implementation of 280 energy saving projects and the investment scale of funds was up to RMB billion Yuan. Through the continuous implementation of the major energy saving projects, in 2009, the power plants in our company saved million tons of standard coal in total, reduced the emission of about 2.58 million tons of carbon dioxide. The power-supply coal consumption was g/kWh and was reduced by 5.38 g/kwh as compared with previous year. The utilization rate of the power plant was 5.24% and was 0.06% lower as compared with the previous year. 27,560 tons of fuel oil was saved as compared with power plants, which participated in the national A Thousand Enterprises Energy Saving Action, saved million tons of standard coal. Desulphurization Modification Since 2006, our company has constantly intensified the desulphurization modification work of the in-service coal-fired generator units, and has invested more than RMB 4 billion Yuan to implement the desulphurization modification of 68 in-service coal-fired generator units with the total capacity of 22,989 MW. In 2009, the fume desulphurization systems were put into operation in all the coalfired generator units. Our company has fulfilled ahead of time and over-fulfilled the target in the letter of responsibility for the emission reduction of the total quantity of sulfur dioxide during the 11th fiveyear plan period of the Environmental Protection Ministry of the state and the target specified in the sulfur dioxide administration plan of the State Development and Reform Commission, fulfilling the commitment of the our company to the society. Meanwhile, our company pays great attention to the reduction in the emission of the oxynitride of the coal-fired generator units. In 2007, Beijing Cogeneration Power Plant completed the denitration modification, and the denitration efficiency of the boilers was up to 90%, making contributions to the success of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. 9 coal-fired generator units, which our company put into production newly in 2009, were equipped with the desulphurization and denitration devices synchronously. The denitration technical modification projects of the in-service coal-fired generator units in the key areas are being pushed forward in a planned way. The optimized design system of our company has been continuously pushed forward. The newlybuilt and expansion projects, such as Huaneng Yingkou Thermal Power Plant, Phase 1 Project of Huaneng Haimen Power Plant, No.3 Generator Unit Project of Huaneng Jinling Power Plant, and Phase 2 Project of Huaneng Jingangshan Power Plant, which were put into production in 2009, have totally saved the investment of RMB billion Yuan, the land area of hectares, 1,461 tons of high-pressure pipes and 3,537 kilometers of cables. Comprehensive utilization Centering on the building of the saving and environmental protection enterprise, our company has implemented the law for the Promotion of Recycling Economy promulgated by the state in an overall way, and directed the comprehensive utilization work by use of the concept of the development of recycling economy with the emphasis on the increase in the comprehensive utilization rate of the pulverized coal and the by-products from desulphurization In 2009, the comprehensive utilization rate of the pulverized coal and desulfurized gypsum in our company reached the summit in history. The comprehensive utilization rate of the pulverized coal was 88.23%, 9.07% higher as compared with the previous year. The comprehensive utilization rate of the pulverized coal in 21 power plants was above 95%. The comprehensive utilization rate of the desulfurized gypsum was 75.7%. The quantity of the comprehensive utilization of the pulverized coal and desulfurized gypsum throughout the year was up to million tons.

The high-purity carbon dioxide made by the operating carbon dioxide capture system can be used in the food industry.it can also be used to produce carbon dioxide instead of industrial method,thus having energy saving significance. Huaneng Yuhuan Power Plant was selected to be Year 2008 Reduced Emission Work Excellent Project in Zhejiang Province by Zhejiang Provincial People's Government. Huaneng Huaiyin Power Plant was evaluated to be Year 2009 Advanced Company for Energy Saving and Reduced Emission in Power-Generation Enterprises by Nanjing Supervision Office under the State Power Supervision Commission; was awarded to the Advanced Energy Saving Unit by Jiangsu Provincial Economy and Informatization Commission; and was evaluated to be Year 2009 Energy Saving Demonstration Plant by Huian Municipal People's Government. 32 58 59 Notes to terminologies Notes to terminologies Ultra-supercritical power-generation technology As the currently most advanced coal-fired thermal power generation technology in China, the ultra-supercritical power-generation technology improves the thermal efficiency (the thermal efficiency can reach 42 ~ 45%) of set, reduces the coal consumption of power supply and enhances the environmental protection performance by increasing the pressure (25 31 Mpa) and temperature ( ) of the main steam of generator unit. Direct air cooling The direct air cooling system refers to the steam cooling system (hereinafter referred to as the direct air cooling) that the hightemperature steam used for power generation is directly cooled by the external air through the surface-type heat exchanger after the steam turbine works. As compared with the water cooling system, the air cooling system may greatly reduce the water consumption of power generation. As compared with the indirect air cooling system, the direct air cooling system may save more water resources. Four expenses Refer to the materials expense, overhaul expense, management expense and other expenses. Equivalent available factor Refer to the ratio of the difference between the available hours and equivalent unit derated hours of the generating equipment to the statistical period hours. The available hours refer to the hours of the generating equipment in the available state, and are equal to the sum of service hours and reserve shutdown hours; the equivalent unit derated hours of equipment refer to the hours converted from the unit derated hours and calculated according to the nameplate capacity. Planned outage factor Refer to the ratio of hours of generating equipment in the planned outage state to the statistical period hours. Technology combining flue gas stack with cooling tower The technology is to combine the stack and cooling tower of coal-fired power plant into one to remove the chimney. The discharge of boiler flue gas after the dedusting and desulphurization through the cooling tower may increase the blowing height of fume with the heat of cooling tower while further reducing the dust in the flue gas, which is helpful to the dispersion of flue gas. Unplanned outage factor Refer to the ratio of hours of unplanned outage of generating equipment (hours of equipment in the unavailable and unplanned outage state) to the statistical period hours. Capture of carbon dioxide of coal-fired power plant The carbon dioxide capture technology of coal-fired power plant is one of the key technologies in the GreenGen Technology. The boiler flue gas after the dedusting, desulphurization and denitration passes through the absorption tower under the low-temperature conditions, and the lowconcentration carbon dioxide in the flue gas is absorbed. The high-concentration carbon dioxide is obtained after the thermal desorption. The solvent is recycled. GreenGen technology With the IGCC technology and CCS technology as basis, the gas and steam combined cycle power generation as main point, the GreenGen Technology is a whole set of new-type coal power generation technology of recycling the pollutants and separating, utilizing or sealing carbon dioxide, a poly-generation coal and electricity form of gasified combustible gas separation, provision of hydrogen source for hydrogen fuel cell and provision of many kinds of chemical raw materials, and a new-generation highly efficient power generation technology which may realize the zero emission of pollutants and carbon dioxide for the coal-fired power generation. Power consumption rate of power plant Refer to the percentage of the consumption of power directly used by the power plant for the normal power generation in the total generated power of the power plant during the statistical period.
