2 Kyoto Protocol Lebanon became a Party to Kyoto Protocol on February 11, 2007 by virtue of Law 738 dated May 15, 2006 Benefit to Lebanon: Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in Article 12 The establishment of the Adaptation Fund

3 CDM in Lebanon In the year 2006 & 2007, an internal desk study was conducted to establish the CDM in Lebanon & estimate the potential of CDM The single ministry model was adopted In May 2007, MoE was appointed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers as the Designated National Authority (DNA) for Lebanon

4 CDM procedure In March 2009, Decision 12/1 was issued to organize the submission procedure Current cooperation with the World Bank & EIB 5 CDM projects at PIN level 2 Private sector manufacturing industry: efficiency in industrial production (switch to more efficient boilers) Electricity production using photovoltaics 3 Public sector solid waste managt: Central govt CH 4 gas treatment 2 municipalities CH 4 gas treatment

9 Mitigation plans: End user End user Commercial Residential Institutional Industrial Banking sector involvement 0% loans on SWH installation Internationally funded projects Establishment of the Lebanese Center for Conservation ( audits, energy standards, draft EE/RE law) (Global Environment Facility) Country energy efficiency and renewable energy demonstration project for the recovery of Lebanon: Installation of SWH and PV on governmental buildings (hospitals, schools, municipalities, etc.) (Lebanese Recovery Fund)

10 The Second National Communication The SNC will focus on identifying mitigation options and policy measures for : sector Building Sector Industrial Sector Transportation system Agriculture Forestry Waste Management Concept proposals will be produced for potential future projects
