6 Integrated Pest Management Integrated Pest Management uses a variety of pest management techniques that focus on: Pest and Vector prevention Pest and vector reduction below threshold levels Elimination of conditions that lead to pest infestations Rodent increase after natural hazard and Denque and Malaria incidence increase

10 Dengue Fever? Predominately spread by Aedes Aegypti in tropical zones but CC increasing spread to previous milder areas Is this vector in the north of NZ? Container breeder - in small amounts of fresh or stagnant fresh water Eg from old tyres, gutters to holy water? This mosquito common from Cairns south to Mackay Extinction in the 50 s in southern areas linked with a decrease in rainwater tanks not just temp Climate is becoming more viable in North Queensland, Northern NZ? Pacific countries neighbours to NZ? Mobility of people? Domestic rainwater tanks are increasing in communities? Will this result in emergence of dengue in Brisbane or Auckland? Impacting much larger populations Source: Williams et al (2010)
