5 COOLING: A TABOO? Not in all countries! GLOBAL picture counts, combining all energy services evaluated over a whole year and over the global system o Interaction building installation controller user o Heating, cooling, ventilation, comfort and ground balance o Direct cooling (high COP!) versus active cooling o Balance heat/cold demand influences ground thermal balance building design as degree of freedom? Look for the GLOBAL OPTIMUM

6 DYNAMIC SIMULATION GEOTABS building asks for dynamic simulation TABS, building and ground: large thermal capacity, slowly reacting, most of the time not in steady-state Combination of slow and fast reacting systems Detailed dynamic simulation: feasible for each building in design phase? How far should we go? From detailed emulator models to reduced controller models
