FAAC BU ACCESS AUTOMATION: SAFE & GREEN concept 2013

The FAAC 2013 marketing campaign, both product and communication, is mainly focused on the concepts of Safety and Energy Saving extended to whole range of FAAC automations To better convey these concepts, the following logos have been created: SAFEzone GREENTECH

With SAFEzone FAAC identifies systems and/or devices that can ease the realization of automation systems in compliance with the requirements of the current European Machinery Directive (MD 2006/42/EC). SAFEzone are therefore all FAAC solutions that allow: The realization of brand new installations perfectly compliant The up-grade of existing installations with no need to replace the automations already installed

FAAC SAFEzone offer, by means of the use of new control boards and/or new devices like the absolute encoder SAFEcoder (FAAC patent), allow the realization of installations perfectly complying to Norms requests, by mean of: Hydraulic and electromechanical operators Operators with 24Vdc and 230Vac power supply

FAAC identifies as SAFEzone the following solutions: All 24VDC systems of GO-GDO-Barriers lines 230V swing gate automations equipped with the new electronic control boards and SAFEcoder absolute encoder (FAAC Patent) 230V automations for sliding gates and garage doors equipped with encoder Tubular motors with electronic limit switch (both radio and wire) provided with mechanical obstacle detection device All automation systems for sliding and swinging automatic doors

The realization of FAAC SAFEzone installations is easily achieved by mean of the SAFEcoder device. This device in fact: Permits the immediate obstacle detection and reverse on contact (precision 0,2 ) Is installed directly on the operator s rear bracket (FAAC Patent) Can be installed on already existing installations (no need to modify the brackets or installations dimensions) Permits to automatically, and with extreme precision, set the deceleration and end travel positions (preventing the automation to overpush against the mechanical stops) Permits to manually set the stop positions, avoiding the necessity of using mechanical stops Avoid anomalous movements after power failure (the absolute encoder always keeps in memory the leaf position)

With GREENTECH, FAAC identifies systems and/or devices, which are a combination of latest generation electronics and mechanical innovations that allow a significant reduction of energy consumption GREENTECH are therefore all FAAC solutions that allow: A quantifiable money saving of the installation handling costs and respect for environment

FAAC GREENTECH solutions are mainly based on : Use of switching power supply devices with very high efficiency (instead of traditional laminated or toroidal transformers on the control boards) Reduction of power consumption during standby Possibility to use SAFEcoder (FAAC patented) to reduce the time of actual work Use of BUS accessories (lower power consumption compared to traditional ones) Optimization of opening and closing time (Energy Saving)pedestrian automatic doors walkways Use of high performance mechanical reductions (Cyclo - Patent FAAC) for sliding gate automations (mechanical efficiency = 80%, more than double the traditional reductions)

The realization of FAAC GREENTECH systems is particularly ease by the use of the new E045 and E145 control boards for 230V swing gate automations. These ne boards in fact: Offer an high energy efficiency (thanks to the switching power supply) Guarantee a very low consumption - Sleep Mode - during standby (E145)

Comparison between FAAC and compatitors 230V boards: Standby power consumption

Comparison between FAAC and compatitors 230V boards: Test conditions: - Comparison of typical installations, composed of: control board for 230V motors in standby, 2 pairs of photocells, radio receiver - Data are taken from laboratory test

Money saving example calculation, during standby using FAAC GREENTECH systems: Standby Saving * FAAC 230V automation + E045, 2 sets of BUS photocells and radio receiver FAAC 230V automation + E145, 2 sets of BUS photocells and radio receiver Saving W/hour 9 11,4 Saving KWh/day 0,22 0,27 Saving KWh/year Hypotesis: Residential Energy Price = 0,20 /KWh Saving /year Saving Kg CO2/year 42 53

FAAC commitment in respecting the Environment Average energy consumption of 1 Italian family: ca KWh/anno (Italian Statistics Institute ISTAT) 230V swing gate automations Quantity of control boards/year Saving per each site KWh/year 100 Total saving KWh/year Total saving Kg CO2/year Total yearly saving : 5 GWh Equivalent to the average energy consumption of approx italian families

Example: the quantity of saved energy, thanks the new FAAC control boards (E045 E145), is equivalent to whole production of a Biomass power plant Example Biomass power plant: Handled virgin wood q.ty: 8000 tons/year Electrical energy produced: 5,4 GWh/year Investment: 5 mln
