4 Source: IEA world energy outlook * Metric ton of oil equivalent World population We will experience a huge demographic growth in the future Global population in 2030 will grow to projected 8.3 billion Billion World primary energy demand leading to global resource scarcity World energy use predicted to increase by 50% 50 years of supply left in known oil reserves assuming that current levels of demand continue Global food demand expected to increase by more than 35% 3% of all water in the world is fresh water 75% of this is locked in glaciers 1.1 billion people lack access to water In 2025 a projected 2/3 of global population will experience water shortages Source: WEF

5 Climate change and global warming Averaged land and ocean surface anomaly The average temperature is predicted to increase by over 2 degrees in the 21 st century 6% annual reduction in carbon intensity is required to meet the 2 degrees target Averaged sea level change Since the end of the 20 th century until the year 2100 the sea level is estimated to rise between cm. With a maximum rise of 0.5 cm annually Source: E&Y, klimatkonferensen Sustainability at SSAB

6 Steel is all around us! Housing and construction sector 50% of world steel production Transport sector (cars, trucks, aviation, shipbuilding, and rail) 16% of world steel production Almost 200 billion steel cans of food are produced each year 25% of an average computer is made of steel 10 World average steel use per capita has steadily increased from 150 kg in 2001 to 225 kg in 2013
