OceanPack SAE (Sea-Air Exchange) Mobile & Modular Flow-through / Underway System for precise Sea + Air pco 2 measurements Superb LI-COR analyzer Auto calibration Lowest maintenance Roughest environmental High precision Low investment Operates on small vessels Top-Box contains Air-CO2, optionally Sensors and GPS Only one data connection required Features & Benefits: High accuracy due to automatic H 2O, temperature and pressure compensation Robust, versatile and compact housing for marine applications. Complete, hand carry able and easy to maintain Underway System Easy handling and intuitive overall design: clear Red/Green signal lights, Start/Stop buttons Already includes the LI-COR pco 2 sensor, based on the LI-840 or LI-7200 family, developed for high precision atmospheric measurements, adapted to Sea-Air Exchange analyzing systems Permanently checked with internally auto calibration (zeroing) Expandable by easy integration of instrumentation through the data logger, e.g. Optode, Fluorometer or Turbidity sensors, CTD and Thermosalinograph, Water-Sampler, Nutrient Analysers and RS-485 Bus e.g. to control external valves and pumps Optional automatic cleaning procedure includes flagging of collected data Optional Water-intake-controller and Leak-preventer device Optional GPS geo references for all data and position event control Optional online telemetry data transfer and alarm services Optional OceanView DataServer for real-time data presentation and storage

The pco 2 analysis in air and the analysis of sea-water become more and more important to understand the complete image of climate change and the possibility of forecasting. SubCtech works in this field with scientist, engineers and specialized companies to develop an easier-to-use and high precision instrumentation. The idea is to provide a smaller system, but Ready to use without the needs of external reference gas bottles, wet/dry cabinet etc. And the system is already equipped with a special adapted LI-COR analyzer fully integrated, with an already integrated real-time processing with typ. 1 Hz raw sample rate. The design of the OceanPack pco 2 underway system is based on a long experience of 24 years in the maritime and oceanographic science and industry. The new design, only provided by SubCtech, eliminates high costs for investment and follow-up and maintenance. Our design provides future upgrade paths as well, e.g. to install oceanographic and meteorological sensors or use GPS receivers or data communication links. Because our philosophy is to provide easy-to-use, small mobile and less cost intensive instruments, many users already selected this technology to meet all requirements. The OceanPack system is already used by important institutes and authorities, e.g. IFREMER or IPEV (France), BMM on RV Belgica (Belgium), German Government BSH (MARNET stations), SOA and Yellow-Sea-Institute (China), Dalhousie University (Canada), MSI (Estonia)

Sea-Air analyzer setup Calibration setup Required installation CO 2-analyzer Software Additionally sensors The comparison between the traditional pco 2 underway technology and the improved SubCtech technology are: Traditional underway system 1 analyzer measuring sequential, low sample rates approx. 10 min Extra gas references (expensive gases by WMO standard) needed, High weight >100kg and high size. Extra space for gas bottles required, extra tubing required LI-COR analyzer must be purchased and installed by the customer. Two PC programs for the analyzer and for the water system must be used No or only few sensors can be installed, e.g. without support to do this. SubCtech s OceanPack solution 2 analyzers measures Air and Sea pco 2 in parallel with a high sample rate of 1 Hz! High performance LI-COR adapted analyzer doesn t need a gas reference! A user calibration port is still provided. Small system with 1 standard 19 rack only! No space for gas bottles needed! Low weight <75kg and low power! The special adapted LI-COR analyzer is already installed - Plug&Play! Complete solution with already computed values Ready to go. Open system with many ports; fully integration into the water system and easy maintenance concept. Interface Different files and proprietary data formats. Standard NMEA data format - SubCtech is member of the NMEA and SUT Auto Requires 2-4 gas bottles, must be changed on The zero gas reference is already included, and the a regularly base. The gas flow system must be internal calibration works without any action by the Calibration checked on a regularly base not fully user! automatic. Equilibrator Sensitive glass equilibrator needs many maintenance Maintenance-free flat silicon equilibrator; developed by HZG (former GKSS) research centre. Bio-fouling Glass equilibrator is sensitive for fouling and deposits Flat silicon equilibrator is less affected by bio-fouling, sediments etc., confirmed by NOAA ACT tests Roughness Processing Investment Follow-up costs Sensitive against rough conditions due to many pipes, glass equilibrator etc. Windows - Notebook. Needs high effort for data post processing with several files due to separated programs and house keeping data. Relative high due to high space, external reference gases, high installation cost. Relative high due to the need of reference gases bottles; maintenance of many tubes, pumps etc.; long maintenance time in harbors required Absolute suitable for extreme conditions, tested on 27kn racing sailing yachts by IFREMER. Proved by Belgium MUMM in during weekly North-Sea campaigns. Values already calculated in real-time, raw values are available for scientific post processing. Fully integrated embedded Datalogger. Low invest due to a ready to use system with small space needed. Very low, system doesn t need much maintenance. No gas bottles, no tubes, pumps etc. The LI-840X and LI-7200X are special adapted analyzers to operate with OceanPack flow-through system in cooperation with LI-COR Biosciences For best results and optimizing the invest costs, the state-of-the-art LI-7200x analyzer should be used for air analysis, and the LI-840x analyzer for pco 2 water measurements.

With TWO analyzers, the advantages are: Highest independent sample rates typ. 1Hz. For Eddy Covariance measurements up to 20Hz Independent analyzer for CO 2 air and pco 2 seawater The Top-Box with Air-CO 2 analyzer can contain additionally sensors such as meteo. sensors or GPS No air tubing down to the OceanPack is required only one data cable Top-Box Type MK3 (LI-7200x analyzer) with additionally sensors Regulated heater Optionally telemetry GPS receiver Stainless steel IP69k enclosure CO 2 + H 2O Sensor, Low vibration mounted Electronic with USB storage, LAN interface, Analogue inputs Internally sensors for pressure, temperature Air intake box, Can be installed 5m away Internal Sensors, e.g. IMU for motion processing Optionally Sensors, Processed by the OceanPack Interface Sea-Air-Exchange Underway System Complete Underway AUMS System OceanView DataServer

Example of vessel OceanPack underway system for pco2 on board RV Polarstern, the largest European research vessel. It was tested for 18 months in the Antarctic in comparison with the GO-8050 system. Due to excellent performance the SubCtech system was chosen and purchased for the Polarstern.
