5 WHY TREATMENT OF MSW SAVES NATURAL RESOURCES It can be expected on 2020 year in Serbia to have t of MSW per day Treating such a quantity of MSW by plasma technology could: - supply about 14 % (1.000 MW) of Serbian electricity needs - replace about TPY of coal - replace about TPY of mineral rocks for use as construction materials

9 GRAPHITE ARC FURNACE SCHEMATIC Treating dangerous waste (petrol contaminated soil, medical waste and electronic waste) with plasma from high voltage arc between graphite electrodes

10 HYBRID PLASMATRON On the basis of plasma technology of treating MSW by hybrid plasmatron is possible to expect 1.9 MWh from 1 t of treated MSW. In such system for very process of treatment can be spent up to 0.7 MWh and net electric energy for the grid is MWh.

11 Synthesis Gas Cleaning System Quench chamber, used for rapid gas cooling. Venturi scrubber, used for particulate removal. Packed Bed Scrubber, used for soluble acid gases removal (for example HCl). H 2 S absorber, used for removal of H 2 S. HEPA filter for fine particulate removal. Activated carbon bed filter for removal of heavy metals. Induced Draft Fan, for keeping the whole system under a negative pressure.

16 According to data in Belgrade into the landfill in Vinca today has been disposed 1,800 tons of non-treated municipal solid waste. Basically Belgrade today has significantly more MSW but as there are illegal dump sites, and taken into account is only 1,800 tons MSW per day in Belgrade. Treated with plasma technology, which the S&T Park IHIS offers, it means that the application of this technology in the system of power plants and heating plants (there would be at least seven locations in the city, providing a suitable system of collection and transport) and organizing heating of facilities in Belgrade would be realized: - 657,000 MWh of electricity - 1,557,090 MWh of thermal energy - 95,265 tons of insulation building materials - 42,048 tons of metal for recycling

17 - Pulp and paper boiler ash (fly ash and grate ash) - MSW incinerator ash - Sewage sludge incinerator ash - Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) - Flammable organic waste comprising variable mixtures of oil, solvent, plastics, ash and water - ASR (automobile shredder residue) or car fluff - Tires EXPERIENCE BY TESTING OF DIFFERENT WASTES It was found that all of the wastes listed above could be converted to syngas, suitable for use as fuel in a gas engine

18 Atmospheric emissions were tested by certified third party gas emissions sampling firm and were found to be well below regulated levels Atmospheric Emissions processing MSW 1 Rm 3 = 1 reference cubic meter at 25 C, kpa, dry gas, 11% O 2

19 CONCLUSION The Plasma Resource Recovery System has been proven in the volume of 10.5 TPD, producing a synthesis gas (almost pure CO + H 2 ), vitrified mass useful for application and metal for refining, with the emission of gas which is allowed to be release into the atmosphere. Designed are competitive modules for wide use of 2.5 TPD, 50 TPD and 250 TPD in the S&T Park project Cities without garbage Industry without waste" that is the "start package" of the plants for treatment of waste of any kind and no matter how dangerous, the local municipalities of Serbia and neighboring countries. It is expected that authorities i.e. decision makers, accept this solution as the only one viable today in terms of economy, energy and environment.
