IPC Licence Register Number 444 Annual Environmental Report 2008 Preface Bulmers Ltd., was granted the Integrated Pollution Control Licence, Register Number P , by the Environmental Protection Agency on August 13 th 2001, to conduct Commercial Brewing at it s site, located at Dowd s Lane, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. The Company s main site, located at Annerville, Clonmel, operates in accordance with IPC Licence Number 443. Substantial work was carried out on the Dowd s Lane facility during A capital investment plan was put into effect at the beginning of 2004 in an attempt to correct the issues raised. Items addressed included: Tracing all existing pipe work in drainage system, replacing and repairing pipes where necessary Extensive repair to Vat House floor Impermeable coating on Vat House floor Installation of flow proportionate composite samplers, flow meters and an electronic monitoring station at effluent tanks A full time Environmental Technologist is now employed during the crushing season to conduct monitoring of all environmental aspects on a daily basis. 2

6 Section 1.2 Description of Site Activities Bulmers Ltd. was granted the Integrated Pollution Control Licence, Register Number P by the Environmental Protection Agency on August 13 th The Licence authorises the Company to conduct Commercial Brewing at Dowd s Lane, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. The main unit operations conducted by Bulmers Ltd. at the Dowd s Lane Site are as follows: - Seasonal Apple Crushing Concentrate Fermentation Juice Receipt and Storage A separate IPC Licence (Register Number 443) was granted for the Company s facility located at Annerville, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. The peak production time in Dowd s Lane is during the apple-crushing season, which takes place annually from mid-august to December. The main operations, which consist of apple crushing and fresh juice fermentation, are conducted during this period. During the remainder of the year, operations include racking of the fermented juice and transfer of the juice to Annerville for blending and bottling, canning and kegging. Finished products, produced using fresh juice fermented at Dowd s Lane include: Bulmers Original Cider, Magners Original Cider, 6

This Environmental Policy applies to the both the Dowds lane and Annerville sites. The Company is committed to prevention of pollution, compliance with applicable environmental legislation and to continuous improvement to meet defined standards of environmental performance. Suppliers and Contractors are encouraged to adopt a similar approach.this policy, and relevant environmental information, is communicated to all persons working for or on behalf of the organisation, and is available to the public.in recognition of its Environmental Impact, the Company has established a framework for setting and reviewing Environmental objectives and targets. Key elements of the framework are as follows; Wastewater Treatment C&C Group operate to an IPPC licence. The company s wastewater treatment plant ensures treated wastewater meets the criteria outlined in the IPPC licence. Water Use Reduction Water is sourced and used responsibly. Water conservation is a key company objective. Solid Waste Reduction The companie s strategy for waste management is to prevent, minimise, reuse and recycle. All wastes, are handled and disposed of in accordance with legislation and best prevailing industry practice. Energy Reduction The company is committed to energy reduction. Energy awareness programmes are conducted on an annual basis. Air Emissions Emissions to the air of gas (including greenhouse gases), odours, vapours and noise are monitored in accordance with conditions of IPPC licence. 19 Section 2.7 Land Spreading Summary Type Recovery Unit Application Quantity (Tonnes) Apple Waste Farm Relief Landspreading The skip containing apple leaf waste is transferred from Dowd s Lane to a larger collection skip located at Bulmers main site in Annerville. Mr. Binman (WCP/KK/070/03), carries out the transfer operation between the two sites. The waste is combined with the apple leaf waste from the apple crushing operation on site in Annerville. The waste is ultimately land spread, on approved land banks, in accordance with a Nutrient Management Plan by Landfeeds Environmental. 19

25 Section 2.12 Agency Monitoring and Reporting In Autumn 2008, the EPA carried out an announced site inspection at Dowd s Lane. There were no non-compliances identified. No site inspection report was issued by the EPA following the inspection. Issues highlighted during audit were actioned. 25
