2 From target to action Local & Regional Energy Actors towards December, 2009 Venue: Hilton Malmö City, Sweden Organizer: FSEK, the Swedish Association of Regional Energy Agencies The European Union has set challenging targets in the EU Climate and Energy package, aiming for at least 20% reduction of greenhouse gases, 20% of produced energy from renewables and 20% reduction of energy use to Which role can local and regional energy actors play in achieving these targets and what support can the European Commission provide? New working areas are likely to occur. What are the strategies needed to cope with these? Take the opportunity to attend a highly topical event, discussing the future role of European Energy Agencies. Study tours will be arranged, highlighting Swedish state of the art in renewable energy and energy efficiency. The Energy Agency conference is located in Malmö, close to Copenhagen, where the UN COP 15 meeting and a large number of side events are taking place. The conference addresses Local, Regional and National Energy Agencies as well as equivalent organizations within the EU. Welcome!

Thursday 10th of December REGISTRATION Welcome Anders Rubin, Local Government Commissioner, City of Malmö Introduction Jon Andersson, President, Association of Swedish Regional Energy Agencies EU climate and energy package, The EU has come up with a new set of climate and energy targets. Why where these targets chosen, how where they processed and what do they mean in reality? What are the challenges laying ahead? Anders Wijkman, Tällberg Foundation, former member of the European Parliament European energy agencies, the IEE programme and the evolving energy landscape. European energy agencies are efficient partners to help local communities with the challenge of implementing the objectives. In a fast-moving agenda, the EU is supporting the projects of local and regional actors. 5 Program Friday 11th of December approximated time We are offering three interesting study tours both within the City of Malmö and to relevant projects in the region. The themes are linked to successful examples of climate investments, energy solutions and clean-tech. Study tour 1 Sustainable city development: Western harbor, Bo01 100% renewable energy, urban regeneration in Augustenborg, solar installations on public buildings and other climate investments in Malmö. Study tour 2 Renewable energy in the urban environment of Malmö: e.g. heat and power, from waste to energy, district heating/cooling, biogas. Study tour 3 Biogas region Skåne: Production, upgrading and distribution of biogas, gas vehicles and gas driven public transport.

It is easy to access Malmö from the airports Kastrup (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Sturup (Sweden) as well as by train from the continent. Registration: Please register at We need your registration before 20 November. Please note that hotel rooms are held for the participants only until 10 October! After this date it might be difficult to get a hotel room in the area. 7 Practical information Accomodation: Rooms are reserved at Hilton for the participants until 10 October. It might be difficult to get accommodation in Malmö later on, due to the UN COP15 conference. To facilitate for visitors who wants to visit COP15, 20 rooms are also held at hotel Hilton for December. Price: 967 SEK (about 90 ) Hotel Formula1: Price single room: 390 SEK/night (about 37 ).
