INTRODUCTION A GREENER SOCIETY WITH SEKAB SEKAB is one of Sweden's largest cleantech companies and one of the leading ethanol companies in Europe. We import, manufacture and refine bioethanol to fossil-free chemicals and biofuel. We believe that the path to a sustainable future is via green alternatives. That is why SEKAB is also developing the next generation ethanol process based on renewable cellulosic raw materials... Sustainable Green Chemistry Solutions 3 /

INTRODUCTION WELCOME TO THE HOME OF GREEN CHEMISTRY In Örnsköldsvik, in the midst of the northern Swedish forests, you will find the Swedish chemical industry's heartland. It is here that SEKAB has its roots. The first drops of ethanol were produced in this area as early as 1909, and it is with over a hundred years of collective experience that we have now taken the next step on the path to the development of the next generation of sustainable bioethanol and innovative solutions within green chemistry. Our society is facing an enormous challenge, with traditional energy sources needing to be replaced with renewable alternatives. SEKAB is one of Europe's leading ethanol companies, and we want to contribute to a future in which reliance on fossil fuels and raw materials is reduced. We do this using the bioethanol we produce and import - ethanol that we then convert to renewable forms of fuel and green chemicals. FROM ETHANOL TO BIOFUEL AND GREEN CHEMICALS The ethanol we produce and import is converted to biofuel and chemicals. Products that many people end up using in their everyday lives. Windscreen washer fluid, vinegar, water-based paints, pharmaceuticals, perfumes, cleaning products, lacquer and ink are just some examples of the outputs from our green chemistry processes. The vast majority of items that are manufactured with oil can instead be made using ethanol produced from renewable raw materials, with significant climate benefits as a result. Our ED95 fuel has been developed for use by heavy transport vehicles with modified diesel motors, with 95 per cent of this fuel consisting of bioethanol. ED95 provides both good energy efficiency and reduced climate impact. Since the very start, we have been a driving force in the development of the E85 market in Sweden. No other country in Europe has made such comprehensive and consistent investments aimed at making biofuel available to all. 4 / Sustainable Green Chemistry Solutions

INTRODUCTION Unique technology for the processing and conversion of waste products Here in Örnsköldsvik there is a demo facility where the research and development of commercial technology is carried out with the aim of being able to produce second generation cellulosic ethanol from many different types of raw material, including wood chips, straw and bagasse. The demo facility is not owned by SEKAB, although it can be booked via us. SEKAB's biorefinery is one of the five foremost such facilities in the world, and at present we are involved in a number of pilot studies with companies from all over the world. With our help, these companies are investigating the potential of different types of by-products that consist largely of cellulose. STRENGTH IN NUMBERS One of our great strengths is having Örnsköldsvik asour home. Here we have the development area, which is an advanced biorefinery that also goes by the name Biorefinery of the Future. It is in this arena that we and other companies within the process industry collaborate with universities and society in the Umeå and Örnsköldsvik region with the aim of utilising our northern Swedish natural forest resources in the best possible manner. Together we want to do more with our trees. Business Idea SEKAB supplies sustainable products and solutions to industrial customers by: - Producing and distributing ethanol-based chemicals and biofuel. - Developing and selling technology for the conversion of biomass into chemicals and biofuel. Mission To create a better world through sustainable solutions. Vision SEKAB's vision is to be the global reference company for sustainable development within the chemical industry. 6 HISTORY FROM 1909 TO 2013 SEKAB'S HISTORY 1909 The first drops of ethanol are produced industrially within the region, signalling the beginning of the ethanol expertise that SEKAB continues to hold and develop to this day During World War 2, the company Mo och Domsjö AB expands the chemical industry, which now covers a wide range of chemical products based on sulphite spirit SEKAB begins producing and delivering ED95 to Europe's first two ethanol buses, which are being operated in Örnsköldsvik SEKAB is awarded a contract for the delivery of ethanol to 30 buses in Stockholm. This leads to Stockholm investing heavily in ethanol-driven buses in The first three ethanol-driven Ford Taurus FlexiFuel cars are imported to Örnsköldsvik, and SEKAB starts delivering E85 to a filling station within the area. A further 50 vehicles of this type are imported into Sweden from the USA SEKAB acquires Neste's chemical plant in Örnsköldsvik. 6 / Sustainable Green Chemistry Solutions

HISTORY Since the early 20th century, the production of ethanol has flourished and developed to become a major industry in Domsjö. This industry is now one of the most important green business areas in northern Sweden SEKAB begins selling and distributing ethyl acetate in Europe The pilot facility for cellulosic ethanol is officially opened by Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson and quickly attracts international attention USA's ambassador Michael M Woods visits SEKAB together with Dan Arvizu, CEO of NREL, National Renewable Laboratories in Golden, Colorado. Sweden's King Karl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia visit SEKAB SEKAB becomes the first company in the world to launch and deliver verified sustainable ethanol, produced in accordance with a number of criteria regarding social conditions, environmental impact and climate benefits SEKAB receives the worldrenowned "Sustainable Bioethanol Award" for its development of verified sustainable ethanol. Bioagra in Poland is officially opened and the plant is put into operation SEKAB launches Premium PURE, a series of green chemical products based on cellulosic ethanol. 8 SUSTAINABILITY SUSTAINABILITY Resources that will suffice now and in the future Our population is growing at a tremendous rate, but the Earth's resources are not growing with us, indeed they are instead diminishing. That is why we do what we do, namely provide long-term sustainable chemical products and biofuels to industry and society. WHAT WE HAVE DONE A FACILITY FOR GREEN CHEMICALS SEKAB is perhaps the world's only producer of completely green chemical alternatives. The heart of our production is our chemical plant in Örnsköldsvik. The plant is home to the production of green products from raw biomass and emissions that are purified. WE ESTABLISHED AND DEVELOPED THE MARKET FOR E85 FUEL Introducing a new fuel is no easy thing. No one wants to buy an ethanol vehicle until there is somewhere to fill it, and no one wants to invest in a filling station until there are customers to be served. Even so, E85 became an established fuel in Sweden in a matter of only a decade or so, and SEKAB was the major driving force behind this process. GUARANTEED CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PRODUCTION PROCESS Since there weren't any criteria for sustainable biofuels already in existence, SEKAB developed its own sustainability criteria. The result was Verified sustainable ethanol, which was launched in 2008 and which saw SEKAB receive a world-renowned award. 8 / Sustainable Green Chemistry Solutions

SUSTAINABILITY WHAT WE WORK WITH ED95 REDUCES DANGEROUS EMISSIONS Almost all transport vehicles run on diesel, a fuel that has a negative impact on the climate, the surrounding environment and people's health. SEKAB has therefore developed ED95, an ethanol-based biofuel that reduces emissions of fossil CO 2 by up to 80 per cent. WE PROCESS AND CONVERT WASTE PRODUCTS WITH THE HELP OF OUR BIOREFINERY TECHNOLOGY Our method for breaking down cellulose provides us with carbon dioxide-neutral raw materials for the production of chemicals, biofuels and energy carriers. The method works wherever there is some form of biomass available. GREEN CHEMISTRY IS IMPORTANT FOR A CLIMATE-FRIENDLY SOCIETY Cosmetics, paints and even food many everyday products start out as fossil raw materials and therefore contribute to climate change. But there are alternatives available. SEKAB manufactures green chemicals that do not impact on the climate and that reduce our reliance on oil. THE CHALLENGES WE FACE RESOURCES THAT WILL SUFFICE NOW AND IN THE FUTURE Our society is reliant on fossil energy and fossil raw materials in the form of oil, coal and gas. We cannot replace the oil we consume. Instead we must find new energy sources and new raw materials and we must learn to use less energy. HOW CAN WE ACHIEVE THE CO 2 TARGETS? The Swedish government has decided that Sweden's vehicles shall be fossil-free by The EU has set the goal of halving emissions of greenhouse gases by There are many, many different aspects that must come together in order for us to be able to make our society climate-friendly. FOOD VS. FUEL The "food versus fuel" issue is often raised as an argument against the production of biofuels. As a major player in the ethanol industry, SEKAB must constantly work to ensure that our fuels and chemicals do not compete with food production, and our ultimate goal is to only sell ethanol that is made solely from waste products. 12 CHEMISTRY CHEMISTRY FOR THE FUTURE Chemicals are to be found in more or less everything around us in our clothes and furniture, in the food we eat, in the hygiene products we use and in the cars we drive. With the help of chemistry we can find sustainable solutions to the problems of today and tomorrow. 12 / Sustainable Green Chemistry Solutions

CHEMISTRY OUR CHEMISTRY PRODUCTS ü Acetaldehyde ü Ethyl acetate ü Acetic acid ü Technical ethanol in various denaturations ü Thermol ü Windscreen washer fluid ü Bioethanol for admixture SEKAB has extensive experience of manufacturing and handling basic chemicals for the chemical industry, in addition to which the company also has the capacity to manufacture these using renewable bioenergy and from biological raw materials for quick production throughout the world. Green chemistry with bioethanol as the raw material Most of the chemical industry is currently still reliant on fossil resources as raw materials for the production of energy and chemicals. The fossil resources are becoming increasingly expensive as their availability decreases - in addition to which they have a significant impact on the climate and the environment. Producers and consumers alike are now demanding alternatives to fossil-based raw materials and products. The market for green chemicals is growing steadily. Our green chemicals Much of the chemical industry is currently reliant on various organic compounds that are produced from fossil raw materials coal, oil and natural gas. Consequently, the chemical industry is dependent on raw materials that have a significant impact on the climate and the environment and that are becoming increasingly expensive as their availability decreases. Green chemicals represent a vital part of the process of reducing the chemical industry's impact on the environment. SEKAB is Europe's largest supplier of green chemicals. SEKAB's green chemicals are renewable and are part of the natural cycle. Consequently they contribute to a greener society. The chemicals we manufacture are ethanol derivatives, in other words they are products that are produced from ethanol. Ethanol is regarded as one of the solvents that has the least negative impact on people's health and the environment. This has led to ethanol in various forms being used more or less everywhere in society and in almost all industries. The ambition is for all of SEKAB's products to be part of the natural cycle and to have the smallest possible impact on the climate and the environment. All chemicals that are currently made from oil can instead be made from ethanol. Sustainable Green Chemistry Solutions 13 /

BIOFUEL THE ROAD TO CLIMATE-SMART FUEL LIES OPEN No other country in Europe has carried out such comprehensive and consistent investments aimed at making biofuel available to all. SEKAB has played a major part in this development. Ethanol is the oldest, easily the largest and the fastest growing biofuel in the world. A realistic alternative to much of the fossil oil currently being used. In terms of volume, ethanol is the largest biofuel in the world, accounting for approx. 90 per cent of global biofuel use. Heavy traffic can make a huge contribution to the environment by investing in biofuel, in particular through the significantly reduced emission levels that result from biofuel use. We are now seeing a growing level of demand for biofuel on the market, as the requirements regarding sustainability are becoming significantly tougher and more widespread. Some of our biofuels are presented to the right. 14 / Sustainable Green Chemistry Solutions

BIOFUEL ED 95 ED95 is a renewable fuel developed for diesel engines. It is based on bioethanol and is already a well-established green alternative for heavy vehicles. Throughout Sweden, large and small companies alike are now running their buses and lorries on ED95. ED95 reduces CO 2 emissions for trucks and buses by up to 90%. SEKAB'S biofuel has become the whole of Sweden's biofuel. E85 In Sweden there are now more than 1,500 locations at which you can fill up your vehicle with E85, and such filling stations are also becoming increasingly common throughout Europe and in the USA. Sweden's distribution system for E85 is unique in Europe, and no other European country has carried out such comprehensive and consistent investments aimed at making biofuel available to all. Admixture Mixing small amounts of ethanol into petrol is a quick and effective way of limiting, at least to some extent, the impact of traffic on the environment. Masterbatch Masterbatch makes it possible for our customers to produce ED95 from locally produced ethanol. It has a number of benefits, including reduced transport costs. 2ND GENERATION BIOETHANOL TODAY The ethanol we produce makes us unique in Sweden and is classified as second generation ethanol, since the raw material used is a waste product from an existing manufacturing process. Second generation ethanol has two major benefits. Firstly, it provides enormous climate benefits in comparison to fossil fuels, even more so than standard bioethanol. Secondly, there is no risk that it will compete with the production of food. It is for these reasons that SEKAB has developed a dedicated process for the production of, among other things, ethanol from different types of biomass and wood raw materials, a process with a wide range of applications. We are already noticing considerable demand for and interest in second generation ethanol, and we want to achieve large-scale production as quickly as possible. 16 BIOREFINERY TECHNOLOGY BIOMASS BECOMES PURE PROFIT Don't dismiss any ideas about how waste products can be used. CelluAPP helps you turn biomass into pure profit. Almost all biomass can be used to produce important chemicals, ethanol and biogas with SEKAB CelluAPP, a cellulose-based biorefinery technology that is deemed to be among the four foremost such technologies in the world. Many types of industries, in particular the forestry, farming and timber industries, generate large amounts of biomass as a by-product. Currently this biomass is often just burnt up. With CelluAPP it is possible to refine the biomass and turn it into saleable products products that can replace fossil-based equivalents. The process, which has been developed by SEKAB E-Technology, primarily consists of four steps: pretreatment, hydrolysis, fermentation and distillation. The process breaks down the biomass into its component parts of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. Wherever there is some type of biomass, CelluAPP can be used to extract biogas, valuable sugar and lignin. Biogas produces energy, sugar is a raw material for chemicals like ethanol and butanol, and lignin can be pelletized and burnt or become a raw material for aromatic fine chemicals. The raw material base is huge, since cellulose thickens plants' cell walls and exists in almost unlimited quantities. 16 / Sustainable Green Chemistry Solutions

A word from the CEO The world's population is growing at a tremendous rate while the Earth's resources, on the otherhand, are diminishing successively as the rate of consumption rises. This means that a growing number of people need to share a diminishing pool of resources. Naturally, such a development does not benefit any of us in the long run. One of our most significant challenges is to assure our current and, above all else, our future need of resources, chemicals and fuel. That is why we do what we do at SEKAB providing industry and society with renewable alternatives and solutions with the aim of slowing down the use of fossil fuels and chemicals in a number of different industries. Reversing this trend is an issue that ultimately requires more action and interaction, both locally and globally. Our mission includes contributing to a process of development that meets today's needs without jeopardising future generations' possibilities. As one of Europe's leading ethanol companies, we want to be at the forefront of developments and actively participate and contribute to the achievement of long-term sustainable production, distribution and commercialisation of bioethanol as green chemical products and biofuel.
