1 September 4, 2001 Verdurmen & Lee Barristers & Solicitors P.O. Box 826 Salmon Arm, B.C. VIE 4N9, Attention: Mr. Glenn A.P. Verdurmen Dear Sirs: Re: Groundwater Supply Assessment 8083 Aspen Road, Vernon, B.C. - R. CushingP. FiIas 1.0 Introduction The present groundwater supply evaluation has been carried out at the request of Mr. Glenn A.P. Verdurmen of Verdurmen & Lee Barristers & Solicitors to provide a professional opinion regarding the sustainable yield and water quality of a drilled water well, recently constructed for Ruth CushingReter Filas. The new well was drilled by M. Schibli Drilling of Lumby, B.C. and is completed to a total depth of 645 feet. It is our understanding that because of complications with caving material during well construction, the down-the-hole hammer and drill bit are lodged in the borehole below the 645-foot depth interval. The borehole was originally drilled to a total depth of 720 feet. Kola has been asked to provide an opinion regarding whether or not the well is functional on a short and long-term basis. Kdds evaluation has involved a review of available information, which has included the driller s well report, the results of a 20-hour pumping test and a water quality analysis conducted by Car0 Environmental Services. 2.0 Evaluation The driller s well report indicates that the new well is completed with 233 feet of 6 5/8 inch surface casing and a 4!4 inch PVC liner installed from 16 to 645 feet. The liner is perforated below the 233-foot depth interval and water is obtained from the local bedrock strata. At the time of well completion the static water level was 67 feet below surface. During the period August 1 1 to 12*, 2001, a 20-hour pumping test was conducted with the new well by Moore s Well & Pump Service Ltd. It is noted that the test was scheduled to run for 24 hours, but due to problems with the generator, the test was terminated after 20 hours and recovery was initiated. Results of the test have been plotted (see attached) on semi log graphs of drawdown versus time (residual drawdown versus time for recovery). At the end of the 20-hour pumping interval, the total drawdown observed in the 0 #3-3107A - 31st Avenne, Vernon, B.C. V1T 269. 2 Verdurmen & L&. Glenn Verdurmed4 September 2001 Water Supply Evaluation Aspen Road, Vernon, B.C. well was feet, which represents only 21 percent of the total available drawdown in the well (i.e. static water level to pump setting). Based on the results of the pumping test it is our opinion that the well has a projected sustainable yield of 2.0 Igpm (2.4 USgpm). Results of the water quality analysis report (Caro Environmental Services) indicates that with the exception of total coliform, the water quality meets the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality for all parameters tested. The total coliform was 5 Colonies/lOO ml, whereas the maximum acceptable concentration is 0 colonies/looml. This is not uncommon in newly constructed water wells, because total coliform can be introduced into the well or water sample through anyone of a number of ways during drilling, pump testing and/or water sampling procedures. Disinfection of the well has been recommended, followed by re-sampling for total coliform. Total iron exceeds the aesthetic objective of 0.3 mgl, but this is not harmful to the health and can be reduced with proper treatment. 3.0 Summarv Based on a review of available data, it is Kutu s opinion that the subject well has a sustainable yield of 2.0 Igpm. We have no reason at this stage to speculate that the projected yield will change with time because the drawdown curve did not show any evidence of a declining yield. The water quality is acceptable with the exception of total coliform and disinfection has been recommended. In conclusion it is Kulu s opinion that the subject well is functional on a short and long-term basis. 4.0 Ctosure The applicability of this report is only valid to the extent that there has been no material alteration from any of the said descriptions provided to Kufu, unless KuZu is specifically requested by the client to review and revise this report in light of such alterations. This report must be used in its entirety. Statements of professional opinion are those of Kufu. Because groundwater and aquifers are not conducive to direct observation, Kufu does not warranty or guarantee explicitly or implicitly any conclusions or opinions contained within this report. If additional information or assessment findings arise which may alter the conclusions and / or recommendations of this report, Kutu would be pleased to review and append our report where required.
