1 WENDY H. YANG Current Position General Information Post-Doctoral Scholar Maiden name: Liu Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management, 130 Mulford Hall #3114 Office: 131A Hilgard Hall University of California, Berkeley, CA Phone: Fax: Education Ph.D. Environmental Science, Policy, and Management (2010) University of California, Berkeley Dissertation Title: Quantification of and Controls on Dinitrogen and Nitrous Oxide Fluxes from Terrestrial Ecosystems; Advisor, Professor Whendee Silver B.A. (magna cum laude) Environmental Science and Public Policy (2003) Harvard University Senior Thesis Title: The Effect of Selective Cutting on the Carbon Budget of a Northern Hardwood Forest; Advisor, Professor Steven Wofsy Research Interests My research is in terrestrial biogeochemistry and ecosystem ecology with a focus on determining process rates and drivers of chemical transformations in the environment. I am particularly interested in the controls on greenhouse gas emissions, the effects of nitrogen deposition on soil nitrogen retention and loss, the effects of plant community composition shifts on soil nitrogen and carbon dynamics, and the coupling of biogeochemical cycles beyond carbon and nitrogen. An important component of my research is the development of novel methodological approaches using tracer and natural abundance stable isotope techniques, in particular to quantify soil dinitrogen emissions and gross fluxes of greenhouse gases. Professional Experience Assistant Professor, Departments of Plant Biology and Geology, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign Starting August 2013 Post-Doctoral Scholar, University of California, Berkeley Graduate Student, University of California, Berkeley Lab and Field Technician, University of California, Berkeley Fellowships and Awards Biogeosphere-Atmosphere Stable Isotope Network (BASIN) American Geophysical Union (AGU) Student Registration Award for Outstanding Talk at AGU Fall Meeting, 2009 National Science Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant ($12,000), 2008 Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award, 2007 National Science Foundation, Graduate Research Fellowship, Department of Energy, Global Change Education Program, Graduate Research Environmental Fellowship, (declined two additional years of funding) Berkeley Atmospheric Sciences Center, Graduate Research Fellowship ($10,000), 2005 Environmental Science, Policy, and Management Departmental Travel Grants, UC-Berkeley (over $5000 awarded in total), Graduate Student Travel Award for Ecological Society of America s Ecology in an Era of Globalization meeting, National Science Foundation, 2005 National Science Foundation, Graduate Research Fellowship, Honorable Mention, 2005 Carolyn Meek Memorial Scholarship, UC-Berkeley,
