SWEDEN - Sites of Community Interest (SCIs): reserve list for habitat types of annex I and species of annex II of the EU Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC (update February 2016) This document provides an overview of all relevant Habitats Directive features (species of annex II /habitat types of annex I of the Directive), as listed on the Reference list for Sweden, for which the Commission is concluding that the Natura 2000 network of sites proposed by this member state is not yet sufficient. This document is normally being updated annually, based on the Natura 2000 database submitted by the member state in the preceding year. The current update is based on the Natura 2000 data that Sweden submitted in late Species/habitat types for which the Commission is concluding that the Natura 2000 network in Sweden is sufficient are not listed below. For a full list of all relevant species and habitat types occurring in Sweden, please consult the Reference List: Glossary: (Sufficient): the occurrence of the species /habitat type is sufficiently well covered by the current SCIs; no further sites are required. IN MIN (Insufficient minor): no new SCIs are required, but this species /habitat type should be added to the list of qualifying features on one or several Standard Data Forms of sites that have already been proposed for other species /habitat types. IN MOD (Insufficient moderate): one or several additional SCIs (or extensions of SCIs) must be proposed to achieve a sufficient coverage of the Natura 2000 network for this species/ habitat type (IN MOD GEO means additional site(s) are only required in a specifically named region). IN MAJ (Insufficient major): none of the sites where this species/ habitat type occurs have been proposed as SCIs so far; in order to achieve a sufficient coverage of the Natura 2000 network for the species /habitat type, one or several of these new SCIs must therefore be proposed. SR (Scientific reserve): further research is required to identify the most appropriate SCIs for this species / habitat type (research on identifying the most appropriate sites, on clarifying the regular occurrence of this species /habitat type is still uncertain and needs to be confirmed. Delete from Ref List (delete from the Reference List): this species /habitat type is not naturally occurring and will be removed from the Reference List; no sites are required for this species /habitat type. (Correction of data): the information about this species /habitat type in the Standard Data Form needs to be corrected / completed / deleted. Codes can be combined, for example IN MOD/ would indicate that additional sites are required and that the existing proposals need correcting or completing. ETC/BD February

1. Alpine Terrestrial Region HABITAT TYPES Comments 2015 Conclusion Oligotrophic waters containing very few minerals of sandy plains (Littorelletalia uniflorae) 6110* Rupicolous calcareous or basophilic grasslands of the Alysso-Sedion albi 7220* Petrifying springs with tufa formation (Cratoneurion) SE stated: The habitat type in question is considered to not exist in the Alpine biogeographic Region in Sweden since the characteristic species for the habitat type are infrequent or absent in this region. Still 11 sites (1D, 10C). No changes.. Still HT has not been replaced in the following sites: SE , SE , SE , SE , SE , SE , SE , SE , SE , SE , SE No changes.. Still 10 sites contain this habitat type. No changes. 0 sites. According to SE, inventories have been made, and this habitat type has been found just once. The habitat has a marginal occurrence in the region, due to the cold summer temperatures, which do not allow calcium to be felled out of the calciumrich water that in warmer climates can contribute to petrification. 9080* Fennoscandian deciduous swamp woods No changes.17c sites. Consider to be marginal. According to SE, the habitat is registered in two sites in the alpine region, and in 17 sites that have parts both in the alpine and the boreal region. Since the C relates to the total occurrence of the habitat in SE, we consider the information correct. SR Ref List SPECIES Comments 2014 Conclusion 2014 ETC/BD February

2. Boreal Terrestrial Region HABITAT TYPES Comments 2015 Conclusion Boreal Baltic narrow inlets No changes. 3C. According to SE, this habitat type will be added to several sites. Conclusion remains Inland dunes with open Corynephorus and Agrostis grasslands 9040 Nordic subalpine/subarctic forests with Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii No changes. 2C. According to SE, inventories have been made, and two new sites are under revision. SE considers that SR is still valid because they need to do more inventories. It is also relevant to have the classification C for the sites in the SDF, since there are relatively large areas of inland dunes in Sweden, although most of the do not fit the habitat definition since they are covered with trees. Habitat type deleted from 3 sites. Now 5B, 20C. Do you confirm this HT is SR for the BOR Ref List? According to SE, the habitat should be added to the reference list since it can be found in the region. It should however be noted that it has a marginal occurrence there. IN MOD SR SPECIES Comments 2015 Conclusion Barbastella barbastellus No changes. 20 sites: 6B, 13C, 1D. According to SE, the species has been added to two sites in the Gotland region, and several more additions to sites, or new sites, are being assessed. IN MOD- Kronoberg and S part of Jönköping ETC/BD February

3. Continental Terrestrial Region HABITAT TYPES Comments 2015 Conclusion Baltic esker islands with sandy, rocky and shingle beach vegetation and sublittoral vegetation 1640 Boreal Baltic sandy beaches with perennial vegetation 8210 Calcareous rocky slopes with chasmophytic vegetation No changes. Still 1C. SE stayed The only occurrence is marginal and it doesn t fulfil the criteria of the habitat type and it should not be added to the CON Ref List, this data has been corrected in the latest database delivered. No changes. Still 1D, 3C. According to BE, the habitat can be added to the reference list for. It does however have small areas in total and no further sites are relevant to be added. No changes.1c. - correct this habitat in the SE SDF According to SE, this data has been corrected in the latest database delivered. Conclusion remains until the new data is assessed. SPECIES Comments 2015 Conclusion Lutra lutra No changes. 6C. According to SE s response, Lutra lutra is already reported for some sites in the border between the Boreal and the Continental regions. Conclusion remains until this species is included in new sites Myotis bechsteinii 0 sites. No change. IN MIN_ it is in some pits in Ignaberga. SR_elsewhere. According to SE, several additions to sites or new sites are included in the material that is currently under study. Conclusion remains until the new data is checked Myotis dasycneme 0 sites. According to SE, inventories were done without results in the form of sites where we know the species occurs. SE is not currently able to identify any sites for the species. IN MIN IN MIN/SR To be deleted from the CON Ref List. ETC/BD February

4. Marine Atlantic Region Habitats Comments 2015 Conclusion Submerged or partially submerged sea caves No changes. 0 sites. According to SE, two additions to sites are under evaluation. IN MAJ/IN MIN Species Comments 2015 Conclusion Halichoerus grypus No changes. 1D. SE MATL should be added in the SDF. SE s reply: The data for SE has been controlled, and two new sites are being checked. 5. Marine Baltic Region SR/ -BGR Habitats Comments 2015 Conclusion Submerged or partially submerged sea caves No changes. 1A site BGR corrected. According to SE, no more sites with this habitat have been found. Art 17 all this habitat type surface area is already contained within the network. However the Art 17 grids are not well covered. ETC/BD February

Species Comments 2015 Conclusion Halichoerus grypus No changes. 37 SCI in the MBAL contain this seal species (1A, 2B, 31C, 3D). - MBAL should be added in the SDF. Conclusion remains until new data is assessed Phocoena phocoena 4 sites added. Now 2B, 4C. None of these sites are in the MBAL, but all in the MATL (Kattergat). Please, note that the Kattegat Sea belongs to the MATL. 0 site for this sp in the SE MATL*. According to SE, one addition to an existing site is included in the latest version of the SDF that Sweden has delivered to the Commission. Several more additions and new sites are under assessment. Conclusion remains until new data is assessed. IN MIN/ -BGR SR/ - Biogeographical Region. *ETC/BD: As stated in the Commission Implementing Decision of 11 July 2011, concerning a site information format for Natura 2000 sites. The indication of marine regions concerns Member States in which one terrestrial region is bordering two marine regions. I.e. Spain, Denmark and Sweden. For the case of Sweden, a marine site that belongs to the Continental Region, needs to be reported as Marine Atlantic or Marine Baltic, likewise a site in the Boreal Region could be in the Marine Baltic or in the Marine Atlantic. Please, see the map of the European Marine Regions. ETC/BD February
