Are you facing biofouling issues?

Technological Antifouling Solutions Using Ultrasonic Guided Waves ExUS-GW

CleanShip: What is it? CleanShip is a 2-year pan-european research collaboration for developing a non-invasive methodology based on ultrasonics for fouling detection and prevention in marine environments. It aims to better manage the performance and life of waterborne vessels for the maritime industry. CleanShip, a European research project funded by EU FP7

Marine Biofouling : A severe profitability impact ExUS-GW Higher maintenance costs (dry-docking, sanding, scraping, painting labour, underwater cleaning) Higher fuel consumption High antifouling paint costs Opportunity cost due to higher vessel downtime

Marine Biofouling : A severe environmental impact ExUS-GW High use of toxic antifouling paints containing biocides Higher CO2 emissions from extra fuel consumption High ecological footprint on marine fauna and flora

The ExUS-GW product Dual-frequency transducers Double-hull transducer tensors Waterproof IP-69 transducer housing for hull and tanks

The ExUS-GW product Research Phase Developing the technology Development Phase Using a successful technology to develop a marketable product CleanShip Project Fundamental research on the technology Laboratory testing Scientific publications about Ultrasonic Guided Waves with Brunel University Test Phase Technological validation Application validation 280m LNG Tanker 12m yacht 180m RoRo Carrier 24m steel plate in the North Sea 49m Superyacht Commercial Phase Marketing the product

The ExUS Technology Innovative Ultrasound Technology that excites an entire ship hull Sufficient ultrasound energy to prevent biofouling Continuous protection the structure Completely non-destructive

Guided Waves Technology: What is it? High energy dispersion into the water Low efficiency Wasted energy The ultrasound waves travel along the metallic structure Fully-activated hull No blind spots High efficiency Limited energy dispersion

ExUS-GW versus common antifouling Guided Waves Technology Longer range Higher power efficiency No water energy dispersion Wave Heterodyning Effect Wide spectrum of new frequencies Higher frequency peaks Tailor-made for each vessel Software and hardware flexibility Electronical transducer optimization

All-around advantages HIGH PERFORMANCE Full spectrum algae control Long range effectiveness Adjustable power to suit each application Programmable for each season, vessel type and algae level UNIVERSAL Suitable for any hull from approx. 70 (20m) Efficient on steel, aluminium and fibreglass hulls Simple installation No maintenance Suitable for solar power ECONOMICAL AND ECOLOGICAL Reduces friction and enhances performance Maintains hull speed throughout the season Saves operating costs Reduces fuel consumption

All-around advantages Save Money Save Time Contribute to the environment

Reduced Fuel Consumption Save Money Reduced Maintenance Costs No maintenance and operating costs Less dry-docks to scrape off biofouling and old paint No expensive antifouling paint No painting manpower Increased Vessel Usage and Reduced Down-Time More time exploiting the vessel at sea Increased return on investment

Save Time Increased vessel speed One-time purchase & installation No system maintenance Stand-alone operation system Less dry-docks No wasted time sanding, scraping & repainting

Contribute to the Environment Pullutant and chemical-free technology Reduced fuel consumption reduction => Less CO2 emissions Less paint => Less toxic chemicals & biocides released into the aquatic environment Can be solar-power operated Completely harmless to human and marine life
