5 Green Open Homes Seven homes and gardens in the Winscombe area will be open to the public over the weekend of Saturday 6 th June and Sunday 7 th June from 12 noon to 5 pm. Some of the homes will be open on both days, some on only Saturday or Sunday. Each will show in a variety of ways how their owners have installed renewable energy systems, improved insulation and energy efficiency, or made other changes to live more sustainably. With rising fuel prices and concerns about climate change, many people are looking for ways to reduce their fuel bills and carbon emission. This event gives you the chance to see real examples of what local people have done. You can talk to the householders about their experiences, the advantages and disadvantages, and get an unbiased opinion, with no hard sell. This is a nonprofit-making community event, and everyone involved in the event is a volunteer. You will be able to see ground and air source heat pumps (heating and hot water); solar thermal panels (hot water); solar PV panels (electricity), some with a battery storage system; a wood pellet boiler/cooker; wood burning stoves; electric cars and a bicycle charged from PV panels/off-peak electricity; a home-made solar cooker; sustainable gardening (including perennial vegetables, waterbutts) To visit the homes, please karin.haverson43@gmail.com or phone / , or visit
