SOLAR ENERGY AVAILABLE ALL YEAR ROUND Air Earth Expansion valve Evaporator Condenser 3 /4 environmental energy 4 /4 heating energy Compressor 1 /4 electrical energy Liquid CFC-free refrigerant Gaseous CFC-free refrigerant In the case of reversible heat pumps, the cycle is reversed in the cooling mode UNLIMITED ACCESS TO FREELY AVAILABLE ENERGY Dimplex heat pumps provide the energy efficient, environmentally sound heating solution of the future. By making use of the freely available, inexhaustible solar energy stored in the soil or ambient air, a Dimplex heat pump provides a sustainable energy solution that not only reduces the impact on the environment but also helps to significantly reduce energy bills. 100% ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY HEATING BUT PAY FOR ONLY 25% Heat pumps make a significant contribution to solving the problem associated with increasingly scarce and evermore expensive energy resources. Because they can extract up to 75% of the heating energy they produce from the environment, the only running cost is the electrical energy needed to drive the compressor. Put another way for every 1kW of energy needed to run the heat pump, up to 4kW of useful heat is provided, giving the heat pump an efficiency of up to 400%. SOLAR HEAT + ELECTRICAL ENERGY = USEFUL HEAT Heat pumps supply more energy then they consume by extracting solar energy stored in the environment and converting this energy for use in the heating system. The heat pump uses the refrigeration cycle to absorb heat from the environment and then raise the refrigerant temperature to a level suitable for heating purposes. A heat exchanger extracts the heat from the refrigerant for use in the heating or hot water system. HEAT IS AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE: Air-to-water heat pumps use outside air as its energy source, extracting heat all year round at temperatures from +35 C to 20 C. Ground source heat pumps extract heat from solar energy stored in the ground.

CUT FUEL COSTS AND PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT AT THE SAME TIME UNRIVALLED ECONOMY Heat pumps are unrivalled for economy due to their lower operating costs in comparison to other heating systems. In addition to lower costs there are also none of the safety or maintenance costs associated with other types of heating system. And because the majority of the energy is free per annum from the environment, heat 1400 pumps are unaffected by 1200 sudden rises in gas or oil 1000 prices Gas condensing boiler Oil condensing boiler Ground-source heat pump Air-to-water heat pump Operating costs Fuel costs Source: Salkent Oct bed detached property CREATING A PLEASANT CLIMATE Whenever fuels including gas are burnt, carbon dioxide is released. CO2 is the principle contributor of the greenhouse effect which is leading to long-term climate change. The oil heating system of an average one-family house emits approximately 4,000kg of CO2 per year compared to approximately 3,000kg emitted by a gas heating system. When a heat pump is used for heating purposes, around 25% of these CO2 emissions can be avoided. PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT Traditional heating systems are based on the combustion of fossil fuels such as oil or gas resulting in the release of large amounts of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions as well as soot and other pollutants. The fact that heat pumps extract 3 /4 of the heating energy directly from the environment means that they significantly contribute to the protection of the environment and help cut energy bills at the same time.

FUTURE-PROOF AND HEATING COMFORT RISK FREE HEATING SOLUTIONS Heat pumps are silent, fully automatic and maintenance-free. There is no need to regularly buy oil, or worry about regular maintenance or annual safety inspections. As a heat pump is a cold heating medium, there is also no combustion so there is no risk of fire. Nor is there any risk of gas leak or spillage, so heat pumps are one of the safest heating systems available today. Future-proof electricity is used as the driving energy for the compressor. Environmental benefits of heat pumps are steadily improving as power generation becomes increasingly environmentally friendly due to more efficient power plants, the introduction of new power generation technologies and an increased use of renewable energy sources. COMFORTABLE WARMTH Heating provided by heat pumps affords maximum heating, operating and living comfort. Typically, the heat is distributed by a low-temperature heating system such as underfloor heating which ensures a cosy climate at all times. In addition, low-temperature radiant heat prevents excessive drafts and the swirling up of dust particles which produces a more pleasant and healthier environment for occupants. FOR NEW BUILD AND REFURBISHING PROJECTS Heat pumps provide a sustainable and environmentally conscious heating solution, and the Building Regulation Part L* encourages carbon reductions from new and refurbished buildings through the use of renewable heating technologies. Heat pumps are now recognised by the government's SAP scheme (Standard Assessment Procedure for the energy assessment of dwellings), as showing significant carbon saving benefits over other forms of heating. In many cases, the use of a renewable heating technology may also help with planning consent. Heat pumps also attract financial grant assistance and are subject to VAT of just 5%. * effective April 2006

HEATING AND COOLING WITH A SINGLE SYSTEM COOL WINTERS HOT SUMMERS As well as heating, cooling systems are also becoming more important in our homes as temperatures up to 30 C become common. To keep a cool head even in these temperatures, Dimplex provides innovative solutions for all heat pump systems featuring heating and cooling applications in one. In summer, the water based heating system can be also used for cooling, providing a pleasant climate in your home all year round. In the case of reversible heat pumps, the waste heat produced during the cooling operation can be utilised for efficient hot water heating or for additional heat consuming applications (e.g. swimming pool heating). DIMPLEX OFFERS TWO OPTIONS FOR HEATING AND COOLING: SURFACE HEATING SYSTEMS In the summer, the heating surfaces (floors, walls or ceilings) are used for cooling. At normal heat loads, draft free comfort cooling through large surface areas is provided. FAN CONVECTORS Fans integrated in the units pass the room air over a heat exchanger, which heats or cools the air. Adjustable multi-setting forced air circulation ensures fast heat-up/cooling times and high heat transfer efficiency.

DIMPLEX AIR-TO-WATER HEAT PUMPS EVEN COLD AIR IS FULL OF ENERGY Dimplex air-to-water heat pumps use energy freely available in the ambient air and are able to provide efficient heating at air temperatures as low as -20 C. Air-to-water heat pumps are suitable for either indoor or outdoor installation, and provide significant installation cost benefits over ground source systems. The Dimplex range includes single and three phase units with heating capacities up to 28kW. A number of models are also 'reversible', offering heating and cooling from a single unit Air-to-water heat pumps for outdoor installation: The warm components such as buffer and hot water cylinder are located in the building. Air-to-water heat pumps for indoor installation: Space saving due to use of a buffer tank that can be placed underneath the heat pump.

DIMPLEX GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMPS HEATING ENERGY FROM YOUR GARDEN! Dimplex ground source heat pumps draw heat from solar energy stored in the Earth, using collectors buried either horizontally or vertically in the ground, and includes single and three phase units with heating capacities from 5-70kW. A number of models are provided with fully integrated system components, such as expansion vessels and circulation pumps. Reversible models offering heating and cooling from a single unit are also available. Ground source heat pumps: Energy for space heating and hot water preparation is drawn from the soil of your garden using ground probes or collectors.
