1 Heat, cooling and power from a single unit

2 Simple. Economic. Environmentally Compatible. Heat, Cooling & Power. All in one. Is that possible? The Solution. A CHP Plant with a Micro Gas Turbine. Combined Heat and Power plants (CHP) belong to the most efficient methods of converting fuel into useable energy. This is especially so when the plant is centred around a micro gas turbine. Micro gas turbines are not only small and compact, they are also environmentally compatible and require little maintenance. How does such a plant function? POWER. A fuel, such as gas, oil, etc. is fed to the plant, where it is burnt in the micro gas turbine. By means of this combustion process, heat from the fuel is converted into mechanical energy. This mechanical energy is then, in turn, converted into electrical energy in a generator, driven directly by the gas turbine. The electrical energy produced can be used to cover the power requirement of the facility in which the unit is installed, or alternatively, fed into the public power supply system. HEAT. After having produced electrical power in the generator, the exhaust gas from the turbine still has a temperature of 300 C: This hot exhaust gas can now be put to further use in numerous ways: By means of a heat exchanger, this hot gas can, for example, be used to produce warm water for heating schools, offices, hospitals, hotels, as well as, business facilities such as workshops, greenhouses, etc. Alternatively, industry and agriculture can use the hot exhaust gases to produce steam for use in their production processes, e. g. in laundries, bakeries, in dairy production or in the paper industry. The hot turbine exhaust gas is also used directly in industrial drying processes, such as in building industry materials, in the food and wood processing industries, in sewage plants and animal feedstuff production. As a further alternative, the heat can be used via an absorption refrigerator to produce cooling for air conditioning systems or cryogenic cooling for shock frost processes, in chemical and pharmaceutical industries, wineries and shopping centres. THE COMBINATION. In a CHP plant, the two processes are combined for optimal energy exploitation. The plant produces heat (thermal energy) and power (electrical energy) simultaneously. CHP plants, functioning according to this principle, can be employed almost everywhere.

3 The Speciality. Decentralised Operation. Compared with large power stations, small CHP plants have the advantage, that they can be installed in decentralised locations. That means they are installed exactly there where the user needs power and heat irrespective whether the plant is located in or outdoors. Proximity to the user also means, that the plant operator can himself determine the mode and, thereby, the costs of the operation. The plant can be operated over a wide power range, as well as with various types of fuel, such as natural gas, biogas, heating oil, vegetable oil, etc. The CHP plant can be integrated without problems into an existing infrastructure and coupled with other process components, such as a steam generator. Numerous advantages supporting the use of a CHP plant. What does QiP stand for?

7 Simple. QiP. The QiP CHP plant with a micro gas turbine requires an installation and maintenance area of only 12 m 2. The plant is not only compact; it is also capable of accommodating changing operating conditions and requirements. QiP is supplied fully packaged and, according to the Plug & Use principle, is immediately ready for operation. The technology is mature and the plant requires little maintenance. QiP can be integrated into any existing process and can be extended module-wise at any time. A QiP 100 plant produces 100 kw electrical power, sufficient to supply 20 single-family homes with power. A remote supervision system (monitoring) provides the operator with the additional security, that the plant will operate reliably around the clock. Economic. QiP. QiP produces both power + heat/cooling simultaneously and makes optimum use of the fuel. That, in turn, results in a high overall efficiency of over 90 % and only little efficiency losses when the plant is not operated continuously. Compared with many other CHP plants, QiP has very high fuel flexibility, i. e. the unit can burn a wide range of gaseous and liquid fuels. The operating life of QiP is around 100,000 hours. That corresponds to over 10 years continuous operation. A first inspection is scheduled after 8,000 hours and the first maintenance only after 40,000 operating hours. That means the plant can be operated continuously for 5 years before the first extensive functional checks need to be performed. CHP plants may also receive support from central and/or local authorities. This can be in the form of reduced financing levels, possible relief from mineral oil and ecological taxes when the plant has a high usage factor, as well as the re-sale of excess electrical power to the public supply system. Environmentally Compatible. QiP. In addition to all the other important characteristics, QiP is equipped with very low emission, state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technology. Less than 9 ppm nitrogen oxides and only trace levels of carbon dioxide are exhausted from the plant in the exhaust gases. These gases are, therefore, sufficiently clean e.g. for direct use in laundries for drying purposes. This implies a major conservation of resources. The use of renewable energies is also possible. The micro gas turbine operates on air bearings and requires neither grease, oil nor other lubricants: An additional advantage for the environment and for operating costs. The plant housing is fitted with effective silencing: The measured noise level at a distance of 10 m from the plant is 65 db(a). That corresponds to the noise emission from a passing car, or a school class. As a corporation with many years experience, we also offer our customers numerous contracting possibilities: we can assist in an early planning stage and, if required, offer long term operation. Many convincing aspects, which this small QiP power pack can offer! One plant for heat, cooling and power. Numerous application possibilities.
