1 Press Release Contact: Alan Frasz, Dovetail Phone: (216) Contact: Siobhan Pritchard Phone: (513) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 9 A.M. EDT, May 19, 2011 LARGEST SOLAR ELECTRIC INSTALLATION IN THE STATE OF KENTUCKY! LOCAL SCHOOL AND STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM SOLAR PANEL INSTALLATION FT. WRIGHT, Kentucky (MAY 19, 2011) The Kenton County School District has long had a commitment of educating a future labor force capable of meeting the anticipated demand for green collar jobs over the next 20 years and of also optimizing energy management technology within the district s schools. The district recently expanded their green commitment when Atkins & Stang Electric, Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance, and Dovetail Solar and Wind recently completed the installation of a solar electric system at Turkey Foot Middle School.

2 This is one of two school facilities in the state that will actually put electricity back on the grid. This school building is a testament to the district s commitment to energy management. We believe school buildings should use less energy, demonstrate sound environmental practices and serve as fundamental tools for learning. A team of Turkey Foot students, named Construction 101, have been involved in the design and construction of the building. The new school uses half the energy of the old school building and the new school is twice the size, said Chris Baker, Energy Systems Coordinator. The Kenton County School District is recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency for demonstrated environmental leadership by significantly reducing the District s portfolio-wide greenhouse gas emissions by reducing energy consumption by 20%. The Kenton County School District is the only school district in the Commonwealth to earn this recognition and is one of only 44 school districts nationwide on this prestigious list for 20% reduction. The solar array installed by Dovetail Solar and Wind and Atkins and Stang Electric consists of 2,731 American-made Sharp crystalline and Tremco laminate solar modules and multiple PV Powered inverters. Monitoring is provided by Fat Spaniel headquartered in Camarillo, CA. The solar array will provide approximately 469,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year or enough to power over 50% of the energy needs at the school. This will reduce emissions by 8,417 tons of carbon

3 dioxide over 25 years, the environmental equivalent of 27,393,273 miles of driving or 144 acres of trees planted. Dovetail Solar and Wind is delighted to have been a key partner in the construction of this solar electric system, stated Mr. Alan Frasz, President of Dovetail Solar and Wind. It is exciting to see solar energy gaining momentum in Kentucky. This echoes the strong demand Dovetail Solar and Wind is experiencing across the region for solar power generation from businesses, residents, and non-profit organizations as they move to clean, reliable, cost-effective renewable energy. "Its exciting to see a school district, such as the Kenton County School District, taking such a leadership position to demonstrate the feasibility of renewable energy for both their community and their students," said Certified Technical Roof Consultant David L. Hart LEED AP, CDT, for Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance. "Early on in the process, it was clear that all parties involved could see the benefits of having an integrated roof system and renewable PV energy system designed together so that a single party, such as Tremco, would be responsible for both the performance of the roofing system and PV system. Kenton County wanted to work with a company that could offer a proven and compatible system that would perform for decades in the future. Tremco is excited and privileged to be a part of such a wonderful project! In addition to its participation in the solar roofing installation, Tremco also provided and installed

4 multiple sustainable roofing systems. These included a white membrane under the much of the solar array and an all white roof surfacing system over the entrance canopy; by reflecting rather than absorbing most heat, these roofs can help further lower the school s energy use. Tremco also installed a 1200 square foot vegetated roof that includes a rainwater catchment system.
