7 WANDA Objectives Protection of the River Danube from pollution by inland navigation in order to preserve valuable ecosystems and water resources Support inland navigation as environmentally friendly and sustainable transport mode for cargo and passengers Establishment of a cross-border coordinated ship waste management system along the Danube

8 Activities (1) 1. National ship waste management concepts As-Is Analyses (international- national), objectives (internationalnational), Measures (international- national), Stakeholder Feedback (international- national), final versions will be prepared during fall Pilot Activities for testing waste disposal services Mobile and stationary facilities in Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria Every vessel can deliver, no costs

Financing model for oily and greasy ship waste A future financing model has to encourage the prevention of waste, split the disposal costs according to the Polluter PaysPrinciple, follow the principle of indirect payment. Several options: Rhine region: 7.5 /ton gas oil, DC: Vignette System, port fees, 4. International Coordination Indirect Payment Information and coordinationwithexperts, stakeholdersand authorities, Joint Action Plan forfollowup activities, Preparation of an International Framework Concept Polluter Pays Principle Waste Prevention

12 Results - Summary 1. Ship waste management conceptsprovide information for all types of ship waste. 2. Implementation concepts and results of pilot actionsare the basis for activities in the upcoming years. 3. A financing model shall secure the financing means for collection and treatment of oily and greasy ship waste. 4. Follow up activitiesare compiled in a coordinated Joint Action Planincluding possible funding sources
