CRAFTWERK The floating fixed bed gasifier a unique staged biomass gasification concept on its way to commercialization

Overview Company Challenge Floating bed technology References Lessons learned Product range 2

Company SynCraft Engineering High tech development company for biomass cogeneration plants Planning and implementation of CraftWERK plants SynCraft Automation Automation technology company; automation of CraftWERK plants Subsidiary of SynCraft Engineering University Spin Off University course in process, environmental and energy technology Management Center Innsbruck Foundation

Challenge Small heating plants Earnings from heat reduced Part load during summer Big power plants Low heat utilization and ornate biomass logistics Small CHP plants Low efficiency and / or expensive fuel necessary 4

Floating bed technology Highest Efficiency CraftWERK as a thermal base load units in existing district heating networks allow maximum utilization of raw materials and overall efficiencies > 70% Low operating costs Simple and low maintenance gas cleaning No expensive excipients or process materials needed Low value fuel Wood chips G30 G50 used without any special requirements, and therefore raw material costs of 90 /t instead of 200 /t for pellets or 150 /t for G100 chips of heartwood. CraftWERK plants Highest efficiency With low value fuel and at low operating costs Low emissions 10 mes lower emission than actual limits according to TA Luft without expensive gas treatment; 1000 times lower tar concentration in the product gas as the other reference systems (Güssing) Blue, clean producer gas flame at CraftWERK Alpha in Schwaz (A) 5

Floating bed technology Process stages of a gasification plant The gasification of solid biomass is done within several different process steps; the produced gas can then be treated and converted into combined heat and power by a modern gas engine 6

Floating bed technology Process scheme of a CraftWERK 7

Floating bed technology The core of the technology is a lifted and propelled against gravity, floating fixed bed. This unique process setup enables to process standard raw material, produce a clean producer gas and simultaneously allows a maximum of efficiency. Force Bulk Force Gas No other gasification process can combine these features together 8
