Chios Club Conference WBTS - Oct 21 st 2014 Andreas Toliopoulos

SUNRUI is a fully-owned subsidiary of CSIC Six Business Units Seawater Desalination Ballast water Treatment Electrochlorination Sewage Treatment Cathodic Protection Coating Protection State owned, solid company ensures continuous future support Expansion of production capacity up to 1000 sets/yr to serve anticipated demand onwards Extensive experience from land base applications in nuclear and thermal plant

Type Approvals IMO Approval (May, 2012) Beg 2014 for final USCG Approval Sunrui commits to upgrade FOC, installed or ordered systems if USCG apply stricter requirements in the future

Commercialization Capacity Reference List (Till ) 1000 Sets 314 From Up to Now 500 Sets Before Sets Ordered Vessels Systems Delivered BalClor first installation: oil tanker Rong Chi Japanese 12K DWT BC (retrofitting)

Filtration: Installation Purpose: Remove large size marine organisms or suspended particles with dimension over 50μm, reducing total amount of solid materials. Electrolysis: Dilute high concentrated Sodium Hypochlorite solution to effectively kill planktons, spores, pathogens, larvae, viruses and other marine organism. Neutralization: NaCl + H 2 O NaOCl + H 2 Adding neutralization agent to main water pipe during de-ballasting process to neutralize TRO in ballast water, in order to meet D-2 discharging regulation.

Filtration Unit Filtering precision: μm Option for an horizontal (Filtersafe) or a vertical backflashing filter (Bollfilter) Super Duplex Stainless Steel, long life of candles Low head loss, no cutoff during backwashing Professional design, easy to maintain New improved designs (new type by Boll) Several different draining methods

Side-stream Technoogyl Side-stream Electrolysis Technology Small flow Small Size Easy Installation on retrofits Low power consumption 1-2% side flow no pressure drop no auxiliary pumps Small increase of system size when treatment flow increases No changes on the main pipeline Small size piping Easy retrofit High electrolyzing efficiency Model Blst pump capacity (m3/h) Side stream flow (m3/h) Power (kw) Filter dimensions (mm) Electrolysis unit dimensions (mm) BC X X 630 X 1650 (X2) 2100 X 1600 X 2350 (X1) BC X X 950 X 2300 (X2) 2200 X 1800 X 2810 (X1) BC 3000 (X2) 2 X X 36 2 X X 1335 X 3395 (X2) 2800 X 2100 X 3030 (X2)

Electrolysis Unit holds the intellectual property right of the core part - the electrolyzer One step disinfection No treatment during deballasting Plate-tubular Electrolyzer - High Efficiency No maintenance Guaranteed to cover Vessel s lifetime Integrated design components sourced from leading worldwide suppliers 25 years experience of continuous operation on land installations of nuclear and thermal plants cooled with seawater

Electrolysis Unit Modular type : modules can be separated into 3-7 parts, convenient for space allocation in retrofits Switch off rectifier Hot plug-in design Efficiency 90% Size of side stream pipes DN40-max DN100 Sea water storage on APT or salt tank installation for low salinity ports (2-10psu) Suitable for muddy water Min water temp 2 C. For lower temp a heat exchanger should be installed Start -Stop Push button operation fully automated fully recordable

Electrolysis Unit (Safety) H2 is a by-product of all ballast treatment systems involving electrolysis, incurring safety issues Advanced H2 treatment process with a H2 removal rate of above 99% Safety tested and approved in nuclear station applications Full redundancy in operation by one stand by blower Air pressure detector (EDU fan pressure switch) Sparkle eliminator (Fireproof ventilation head) Hydrogen leakage detector (Hydrogen detector in engine room) Proprietary design of cyclone and baffle tank

Deballasting and Neutralization Blender Suitable for all types of voyages Min required retention in WBT to meet IMO criteria 24h Automatic operation of neutralizer when TRO>0,1ppm Neutralizing agent is Na2S2O7 cheap and widely available Control Box Neutralization Tank Metering pump Cost of neutralization 2-3 days after ballasting (TRO 1ppm), equals 0,5 USD / 1000m3 TRO Sensor

Corrosion control and coatings safety During IMO certification process, assigned an authorised testing institution to perform a 6 months comprehensive experiment of corrosion in treated ballast water. Experiment results showed that ballast water treated by BalClor BWMS had no additive effects on corrosion and had no detrimental effects on coating system. Trea Seaw Hypochlorite concentration less than 10ppm is safe for coating Natural Seawater No corrosion effect on PSPC coated st
