1 ADVANCED BI FUELS MAY 2017, GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN WELCOME TO THE INTERNATIONAL ADVANCED BIOFUELS CONFERENCE FOR AVIATION, MARITIME AND LAND TRANSPORT! CONFERENCE CENTRE WALLENBERG, GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN Organised by:

2 WELCOME TO THE ADVANCED BIOFUELS CONFERENCE IN GOTHENBURG! Biofuels are an ever important piece in the transition to a fossil fuel-free world. Advanced biofuels, being sustainable and regardless of resources or technology, grown in forests or on agricultural land are vital in keeping global warming below 2 C as agreed. The transport sectors in aviation, maritime and on land benefit from biofuels bringing growth to a bioeconomy, adding security to supply, energy and cost. While the market is ready, fossil fuel prices are at low levels and there are different political ambitions on both national and European levels. What long-term policy and instruments will the European Union adopt to reduce CO 2 emissions? How can the industry create business opportunities for this emerging market, taking advantage of technological innovations? Biofuels have the potential to unlock the downward trend in increasing carbon emissions from the transport sector, replacing fossil carbon with renewable carbon. The technology is there, the investments are promising, the time is right. Come and listen to the leading experts in biofuels, make your voice heard and together we will create the right conditions for biofuels, for today and tomorrow! PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS! The Advanced Biofuels Conference is intended for those who are interested in creating a sustainable transport sector. Speakers and delegates will be policy makers and politicians, leading scientists, researchers, engineers, as well as executives and representatives from companies, organisations, governments and authorities. It is all about greenhouse gas reduction performance, therefore advanced biofuels are defined as sustainable biofuels, regardless of raw material or processing technology. Clean and efficient conversion of biomass from agriculture, forest and water in biorefineries demonstrates opportunities for large-scale production of biofuels with commercial break-through in many sectors. Now is the time to pave the way for direct measures, fulfilling ambitious goals for biofuels to an exit for fossil fuels. Stay updated on and register on: Cover photo: Bastian Linder

3 CONFERENCE SESSIONS POLITICAL STRATEGIES & VISIONS With a rapidly changing transport sector, how will the political ambitions nationally and internationally lead the way? POLICY CHANGES FOR A CIRCULAR BIOECONOMY The need for policy changes are clear, what is needed for the auto and the biofuel industry? MARKET AND INDUSTRY PERSPECTIVES ON SUSTAINABLE BIOFUELS How will sustainable biofuels from agriculture and forest continue to be important in the transition to a fossil fuel-free world? BIOFUELS IN AVIATION AND MARITIME TRANSPORT How can the development of biojet and biofuels for shipping take-off internationally? FOSSIL-FREE LAND TRANSPORT SECTOR Maximizing the value derived from the biomass feedstock in a biorefinery. BIOFUEL AND ENGINE DEVELOPMENT FOR A CHANGING CLEANER TRANSPORT SECTOR Disruptive technologies and e-mobility, is there a future for combustions engines? SUSTAINABLE BIOFUELS AS GOAL OR A DRIVER Transforming and re-carbonizing the transport sector with sustainable biofuels. RENEWABLE FUEL MYTH-BUSTING Myth: Carbon dioxide emission reduction percentage is a biofuel property. MOVING FORWARD WITH BIOFUELS The global resources and trends in bioenergy and biofuels. 4 JOIN OUR STUDY VISITS 17 MAY! On 17 May there will be two pre conference study visits to choose from: THE BLUE TOUR: STOP 1. PREEM REFINERY Preem is Sweden s largest fuel company. Preem s two refineries in Gothenburg and Lysekil are among the most modern and environmentally adapted in Europe. They produce renewable fuels, diesel and gasoline that work in today s and tomorrow s vehicles. STOP 2. VOLVO TRUCKS AND EXPERIENCE CENTER Volvo Trucks is the second-largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer in the world. This guided tour will describe Volvo truck s history, trucks and services and a presentation by Lars Mårtensson (Director Environment and Innovation) about Volvo s view on Future Transports with special focus on fuels. STOP 3. SÖDRA CELL VÄRÖ Södra Cell Värö Biorefinery is the biggest saw mill and the most modern pulp mill in Sweden. You will hear about the journey from plant to advanced biofuel and how the different factories at the site cooperate to be energy efficient. You will listen to what Södra is doing today together with SunPine and what the future might bring. THE GREEN TOUR: STOP 1. GOBIGAS GoBiGas is the first project to demonstrate the transformation of woody biomass to biomethane (also called renewable natural gas och biogas). Welcome to visit GoBiGas and to listen to a presentation of the facility, the technology, research and the challenges. We will also offer you a tour of the plant on the outside. STOP 2. ST1 REFINERY St1 Refinery in Gothenburg is a modern refinery annually processing 4 million tonnes of crude oil from the North Sea. St1 is pioneer in Advanced Biofuels producing ethanol form different waste materials. Today St1 is commissioning Cellunolix plant the world s first commercial demonstration plant producing cellulosic ethanol from saw dust. STOP 3. PERSTORP BIOPRODUCTS REFINERY At the visit to Perstorp s site in Stenungsund you will see Scandinavia s most modern plant for biodiesel and biodiesel post treatment. You will also see how biogas is incorporated in large scale gasification and downstream chemicals production, with focus on the plants for heavy alcohols and their exiting development to become the pilots for the next major biobased diesel replacement molecules. More about the study visits on: Please note that registration is mandatory and the study visits are open for conference delegates only.
