Design Consultation: Non Technical Summary Triple Quest Micro Scale Gold Standard PoA Hydraid BioSand Water Filter Programme Central America

DESIGN CONSULTATION 1. Introduction to Micro Scale PoA 2.C/ME (Triple Quest) 3. Project Technology 4.VERs 5.Participation in PoA 6.Local Stakeholder Consultation 7. Viability Africa 8. Comments/Feedback

INTRODUCTION TO THE GOLD STANDARD MICRO SCALE POA 1. Innova ve Programme of Ac vi es design concept from the Gold Standard Founda on that allows project par cipants to group micro scale project ac vi- es into one umbrella Programme of Ac vi es 2. Micro Scale cap on project ac vi es of 10,000 tonnes per annum per project ac vity 3. Component project ac vi es are called VPAs (Voluntary Project Ac vi es) 4. Applicable to Renewable energy supply and enduse energy efficiency improvement ac vi es 5. PoA boundary can be across mul ple countries and VPAs can be located in any host country. Ac vi es located in LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS have simplified rules for the demonstra on of addi onality.

Triple Quest Hydraid BioSand Water Filter Programme Central America Programme Objec ve: To reduce wood fuel consump- on used for domes c/non-residen al water treatment by introducing zero energy BioSand water filter technology to replace the use of boiling. Coordina ng/managing En ty: Triple Quest Host Par es: 1. Belize 2. The Republic of Guatemala 3. The Republic of Honduras 4. The Republic of Nicaragua 5. The Republic of Costa Rica 6. The Republic of Panama 7. The Republic of El Salvador 8. The Republic of Hai 9. The Dominican Republic

TRIPLE QUEST Triple Quest is the Coordina ng and Managing En ty to the PoA. The company is a joint venture between The Windquest Group and Cascade Engineering, which each support Triple Quest through financing and strategic manufacturing capabili es. Triple Quest is a social enterprise that exists to aid in the establishment of sustainable locally owned businesses that provide affordable, clean water for children and families worldwide. The company freely transfers knowledge related to construc ng purifiers from locally available materials as well as in suppor ng the opera on of local businesses that can meet the need of their communi es in a financially sustainable manner. Triple Quest holds the only U.S. license to manufacture and market the commercial version of the patented Hydraid BioSand Water Filter.

COORDINATING/MANAGING ENTITY As C/ME, Triple Quest shall be have the following du es and rights within the micro-scale PoA. Develop/Contract a consultant to develop the PoA Design Document (PoA-DD), the Generic Voluntary Programme Ac vity Design Document (Generic VPA DD), the Specific VPA Design Document (VPA-DD) for the first VPA included in the PoA, and manage the development of future design documenta on for the PoA; Develop feasible distribu on plans for replica on by each of the VPAs contracted by the C/ME for inclusion in the PoA; Develop standard monitoring plans for use by each of the VPAs contracted by the C/ME for inclusion in the PoA; Collate monitoring reports collated from the contracted VPAs for purposes of verifica on and monitoring of the PoA; Communicate with the Gold Standard directly (or through a contracted consultant) for all ma ers rela ng to the PoA; Have exclusive ownership of the VERs realized in the PoA and ensure that all final recipients voluntarily concede such ownership to the CME; Manage the transac on of the VERs generated in the PoA and distribu on of the VERs realized to the contracted VPAs.; Develop contractual agreement templates between the CME and poten al individual VPA operators

PoA STRUCTURE FROM C/ME TO END USER

PROJECT TECHNOLOGY Intended Use: Point-of-use Easy Installa on: About 30 minutes Prep Time: Surface biological layer forms naturally in about 2 weeks Power Source: Gravity (no electricity or plumbing required) Convenient: Operates on demand Filtering Capacity: 47 liters/hour with intermi ent use Family Size: Serves the needs of 8-10 people daily Low Maintenance: Cleaned in place by user, no parts to replace, instruc ons provided Average life expectancy is 8-10 years No moving parts Removes up to 99.8% of deadly parasites with a fully formed bio-layer Reduces diarrhea by 47

Structural flow of BioSand filters, VERs and Finance within the VPA The Procedural Flow within the PoA can be described as follows: 1. The C/ME shall enter contractual agreements with VPA Operators for inclusion in the PoA or use distribu on partners to distribute the BioSand filters to End Users 2. End Users shall provide consumer informa on to the VPA operators/ Distribu on Partners for entry to the VPA Records. 3. VPA Records shall be collated into the C/ME database for verifica on by the gold Standard 4. Upon successful verifica on the Gold standard shall issue Verified Emissions Reduc on Cer ficates to the C/ME 5. The C/ME shall trade the VERs with a buyer for finances

Because of the geographically dispersed nature of the PoA, a local stakeholder consulta on (LSC) at the PoA level would poten ally exclude a significant number of comments/inputs from community members in which the project technology would be distributed. Furthermore, the cost and logis cs required to host an LSC at the PoA level that would have adequate representa on from a representa ve sample of target groups/communi es, NGOs and governmental representa ves would not be jus- fiable to the micro-scale PoA.

PARTICIPATION IN PoA The PoA shall provide poten al VPA implementers with the organiza onal and methodological framework for implementa on of micro-scale voluntary program ac vi es (VPAs) under the overall management of the C/ME. Individual VPA Operators shall have the following du es and rights within the PoA: I. To comply strictly with the stated eligibility criteria contained the PoA-DD. II. Comply with the stated monitoring procedure as defined in the PoA-DD and avail the necessary resources such as staff for the purposes of valida on and verifica on. III. Ensure that final recipients of the water filtra on technologies have voluntarily conceded ownership of the VERs to the CME. Contractual engagements shall be entered between the CME and contracted VPA operators transferring all VERs realized in the VPA to the CME. This will allow the CME to directly communicate with the Gold Standard Founda on for all VERs realized in the PoA and distribute VERs to respec ve VPAs in accordance with contractual agreements.
