7 Stora Enso s carbon footprint Our target is to reduce fossil CO 2 emissions by 31%* by 2030 In Q we reached a 24% reduction We report on our emissions transparently In 2017, CDP included Stora Enso on its Climate A List and Supplier Climate A List Scope 3 Scope 1 Scope 2 * Science-based target (SBT) performance compared to baseline year Covering direct fossil CO₂ emissions from production and indirect fossil CO₂ emissions related to purchased electricity and heat (Scope 1 and 2). 7

8 Forests, plantations & land use We respect the local environment Sustainable forest management keeps forests and plantations healthy and productive 88% of our wood comes from managed seminatural forests, the rest from tree plantations in 2017 All our wood comes from sustainable sources 85% of our wood is FSC and/or PEFC certified 92% of lands owned and managed by us is covered by certification Traceability systems and other tools ensure the sustainability of all uncertified wood 8

9 Water We use natural resources with care Water availability is a global challenge and plays a central role in our production We constantly strive to reduce its use Nearly 96% of the water we withdraw from nature is released back to the environment We ensure the water is purified and safe Water is recycled within the mill where feasible, reducing the need for water intake 9

11 Community engagement in Guangxi During 2017, our human rights work in Guangxi focused on training staff in human rights and progressing the remaining actions of our Human Rights Action Plan to a conclusion. Key actions in 2017: Human rights training for key employees, including those working with sourcing, legal issues, human resources and sustainability, as well as for external security service providers. Continuing to develop a Transportation Impact Management Plan including safety guidelines reviewed together with contractors, with a special focus on road safety in local villages. Implementing and compliance monitoring of our Supplier Code of Conduct and Responsible Sourcing Programme. 11
