2 Up to any challenge Consistent cost reduction, high plant availability and integrated transparency major challenges for almost every sector. Many automation solutions are already available to meet these challenges. Harmonized and matched products which operate in accordance with joint standards are the means of choice in this context. Yet, what if standards are no longer sufficient? The mining, chemical, oil and gas industry as well as many further sectors are pushing forward into automation areas in which components need not only comply with the usual high requirements but additionally have to withstand harshest environmental conditions. Standards advanced SIPLUS extreme products are completely based on stateof-the-art Siemens standard industry products. Totally Integrated Automation ensures their seamless integration in our automation solutions. To meet your individual requirements and those of your sector, our products undergo corresponding refinement processes. As a result, they offer reliable operation even under extreme environmental conditions like high altitude, temperature or humidity and remain absolutely fit for use despite maximum medial loads in accordance with DIN EN Automatically on top As the world market leader in the field of automation, Siemens utilizes its know-how and global presence for SIPLUS extreme products. This is not only reflected in continuous innovation on the basis of state-of-the-art standard industry products, but also in global service and sales.

3 Successfully tested for highest requirements In order to ensure our products full functionality even under harshest ambient conditions, they undergo numerous tests under heavily loaded and corrosive test conditions. 1 Condensation Electronic components are subject to condensation of humidity already with minor temperature fluctuations for example upon relocation from indoor to outdoor. Such condensation may result in damage when the component is switched on. Thanks to their unique refinement, SIPLUS extreme products withstand a relative humidity of 100% and operate flawlessly even in case of ice formation. Standard: EN Chemically 3 Biologically active substances In sectors involving processes in chemically reactive environments, e.g. fossil fuel processing or water and wastewater treatment, components may be subject to major corrosion damage. Following their refinement, SIPLUS extreme products undergo tests with various chemical substances in order to ensure their resistance to corrosive gases in a standard-compliant manner. Chemical substances: SO₂, H₂S, Cl, HCl, HF, NH₃, O₃, NOx. Standard: EN C4 active substances Biological environmental conditions are simulated in a test involving mold, sponge and fungal spores. This ensures the refined SIPLUS extreme products resistance to occurring corrosion damage. Standard: EN B2 4 Mechanically 5 Temperature active substances Agitation of an air/dust compound, including sand, results in the formation of electronic bridges between PCBs or pins, which generally lead to a failure of non-refined products. In order to ensure our refined products impeccable operability in the extractive industry or generally in production facilities involving high sand or dust shares in the air, they are tested in accordance with these environmental conditions. Standard: EN S4 range In order to ensure our products full applicability in various climatic zones around the globe, the modules functionality is even tested under extreme temperatures. For application under snowfall, arctic sea or desert heat conditions: SIPLUS extreme products undergo a cyclic heat, cold and humidity test in the range from 40 C to +70 C over several days. 6 Salt mist In order to simulate environmental conditions in seaside and offshore applications, e.g. wind parks or dockyards, SIPLUS extreme products undergo tests with very corrosive sodium chloride following their refinement. Standard: EN , severity level 3

7 SIPLUS extreme in practice Kamag: Controllers and distributed I/O ET 200S Extreme loads No weight is too heavy for Kamag Transporttechnik GmbH & Co. KG based in Ulm, Germany. The company has specialized in heavy-duty vehicles and offers mobile platforms which can be combined into complete transport units as required in order to move loads of several thousand tons. Extreme requirements If several platforms are employed at the same time, these have to be networked by means of powerful communication in order to facilitate the transport unit s precise control. The additional integration of subsystems in the control necessitated a comprehensive system solution. However, the partially harsh environmental conditions under which the vehicles are employed represented the biggest challenge. Their functionality has to be ensured even en in case of extreme temperature changes and corrosive environmental influences for example in desert regions or in mining applications. Chemicals Metals & Mining Corrosive gases Extremely resistant components A PROFINET-based solution with the distributed I/O SIMATIC ET 200S was realized for the new vehicle range K24. The Kamag experts opted for specifically refined versions of the tried-and-tested SIPLUS extreme product range components a decision which proved perfect. Thanks to their extended temperature range, 100% humidity, including condensation, and resistance to mechanically active substances such as sand and dust, the application limits of these products are way higher than those of standard devices. The respectively extended runtimes pay off particularly when considering that Kamag employs its vehicles worldwide. And it does so with success. Water & Wastewater Condensation Salt mist Oil & Gas Karlsruhe waterpark: HMI panels Automotive Extended temperature range Renewables Plenty of water for bathing fun The Europabad Karlsruhe is one of the most popular and modern waterparks in the German region of Baden and has a lot to offer over an area spanning 68,000 square meters. 200 pumps and fans are employed for the conveyance of air and water alone and an automation solution is also in place of course. Ample contact surface for corrosive environmental conditions Planners had to face a problem already prior to the waterpark s detailed engineering: Unusual environmental conditions. A high relative humidity of up to 100% and the resulting condensation on the automation systems can result in negative effects on the components in next to no time. This problem is further aggravated by chlorous air, which also affects the products and may thus lead to premature failures. Particularly unprotected components such as electronic display panels on the control cabinets are affected. In this context, a resistant solution had to be found in order to ensure the plant s reliable operation if possible without major costs for complex protective measures.... Solution for extended water fun The application of refined SIPLUS extreme modules such as SIPLUS panels overrides the negative effects of the waterpark s ambient air on the automation systems. After all, these components are designed to withstand aggressive corrosive gases particularly chlorine. Moreover, they are protected against condensation and resulting formation of mineral deposits for unlimited bathing fun in the Europabad waterpark.
