2 Renewable Energy Market in India Research Base A Growth of 28.7% has been observed in the Indian RE capacity over the past decade The upbeat scenario for renewables across the world has triggered the development of renewable sources in India too Exhibit 01: Percentage Share of RES in India in Total Power Generation Portfolio % contribution in the total power generation portfolio % share in the total power generation capacity 13% share in the total power generation capacity ILLUSTRATIVE 2014 Along with the reasons mentioned above the renewable energy sources are now being seen as a big support in bridging the gap of power requirement and its supply. The aggressive development of the non-conventional is now being done with the concept of pulling up the total power generation capacity of the country. It is pertinent to note that the RES contributed nearly 13% of the total generation capacity of the country as on April Exhibit 02: Share of RES in the Total Power Generation Portfolio in FY 2014 ( In GW) ILLUSTRATIVE Source: Research Idealizing the European renewable industry, India too has taken several initiatives in the past to unleash its available renewable potential and is all set to take its renewable energy portfolio to the new heights. Over the last decade the development of renewable energy in India has progressed at a CAGR of 27.87% and is expected to grow even more. The initial ideology behind adopting renewable energy for power generation was to add an environmental friendly source for power generation and to support the electricity supply structure of remote and rural areas. But the shortage of fuel (coal, oil & gas) witnessed by the country over last 7-8 years has expanded the role of non-conventional in the country Source: Research Thermal Hydro Nuclear RES Copyright 2013, All rights reserved

3 Renewable Energy Market in India Research Case The planned investment for wind is likely to hover somewhere around USD Billion and that too for solar is projected to fall between USD Billion by the end of this decade Exhibit 03: Key Take Aways for Renewable Energy Sources in India Key Challenges to be Addressed.. For wind the capacity is likely cross 80 GW by 2020 The sector is likely to witness the entry of players which would follow EPC/EPCM Model A wide market share for domestic manufacturers in the solar segment is anticipated with increase in anti dumping practices New state level policies will push even more players in the solar industry Capacity is projected to reach around GW Capacity for Biomass is projected to reach around GW by end of 2020 Captive Biomass and CHP to be the core centric area Capacity targets for SHPs to be fixed at 20 GW for 2022 ILLUSTRATIVE For Wind Lack of strict enforcement of RPOs in limiting demand for power from RES Weak transmission infrastructure Delays in payment lend financial uncertainty to projects, which dampens investor interest For Solar Anti dumping duties may pull out the support from international manufacturers. Volatility in the exchange rate is expected to put pressure on project financing in the short-term Uncertainty with respect to some state government policies does not well for investor confidence Cumulative RE portfolio to reach upto a capacity of 100 GW by 2020 Source: Research Copyright 2013, All rights reserved
