2 EIHP IN BRIEF Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (EIHP) was founded in Zagreb, Croatia as a limited liability company in Later, in March 2003, EIHP was transformed from a Company to an Institution following the Decree of the Government of Croatia. The Institute s strategic goal is to be recognized as the centre of excellence in the field of energy planning, analysis and environmental protection in the wider region. The Institute is ready to respond to the demands of the energy system of the Republic of Croatia, as a member of the European Union but it also provides such professional and scientifi c assistance to countries in the Energy Community, in the wider region and beyond. The Institute cooperates with numerous state, regional and local administrations, energy subjects, private entrepreneurs, scientific, educational and professional institutions in Croatia, in the region and the EU on the development of long-term sustainable energy. Cooperation on multinational energy projects enriches the employees knowledge and skills, increasing thus their capacity to conduct the most demanding tasks. The Institute is broadening its regional and international cooperation, in particular in markets where it has gained status as a responsible as well as professionally and scientifi cally competent institution. The set goals may only be achieved by providing a high-quality service, ensuring customer satisfaction and the employees continuous professional and scientific improvement. As the leader in its fi eld, the Institute responsibly and persistently performs all tasks outlined in its mission statement while supporting energy sector transition processes. The fulfilment of these tasks is possible since the Institute has, through the years, gained the confi dence of all subjects in the energy sector as a professionally responsible and scientifically competent institution. Regional and international cooperation represent important components of the Institute s programme. In this context, the Institute represents an important centre for cooperation in the realisation of common programs, education and reform in the region. The Institute has confirmed a high level of professionalism in preparing, managing and executing international scientifi c programmes. Successful implementation of reforms, increase in the level of knowledge, and information dissemination within the expert, scientific and professional community and the general public, represent important tasks of the Institute. These tasks are realised by providing different forms and levels of education, or by publishing work which is aimed at various target groups around the globe, as shown on the following Figure.
