2 Education and training Principal subjects/occupational skills Dates 01/01/ /12/2009 Doctor of Philosophy in Energy Engineering Main subjects: - Computational Thermo Fluid Dynamics - Experimental Thermo Fluid Dynamics - Fluid Mechanics - Chemical Engineering - Partial Differential Equations PhD Thesis: "Modeling, Optimization and Experimental Evaluation of a Combined Tri-generation and Desiccant Evaporative Cooling System " The thesis work consisted in designing, implementing and monitoring an innovative tri-generation system composed of co-generator, absorption chiller and DEC (Desiccant Evaporative Cooling) system. The design and optimization phase has been carried out through a detailed simulation study, which has requested both the mathematical modelling and the experimental identification of the main system components. In particular, a new methodology for the experimental identification of silica gel desiccant wheels has been developed and validated; the entire system has been fully characterized; a novel model based control strategy has been successfully implemented. The proposed strategy consisted in the minimization of the primary energy needs of the plant, which are predicted by the plant model on the basis of the a few monitored disturbances. In this way, control inputs are maintained at their optimal values under variable outdoor and indoor conditions. Politecnico di Milano, Milan (Italy) Principal subjects/occupational skills Dates 01/09/ /06/2006 Master of Science in Solar Energy Main subjects: - Photovoltaic Systems - Solar Thermal energy systems - Passive Heating and Cooling of Buildings - Financial Evaluation of Renewable Energy Projects Master Thesis: Simulation study of an innovative solar absorption refrigeration system The work has focused on the coupling between concentrating collector and high temperature lift water ammonia absorption chillers. Models for collectors (Fresnel, Parabolic Through), absorption chiller and ice making thermal storage have been developed and validated with literature and manufacturers data. The energy performance has been numerically verified in dry and hot climates (North Africa) and economical comparison with photovoltaic + vapour compression chiller has been carried out. Dalarna University, Borlänge (Sweden) Dates 01/11/ /10/1995 Master in Mechanical Engineering Page 2 / 5 - Curriculum vitae of

3 Principal subjects/occupational skills Main subjects - Thermodynamics - Turbomachinery - Dynamics of mechanical systems - Experimental stress analysis - Design of machines Master Thesis: Thermo-elastic effects in lubricated journal bearings The static and dynamic characteristics of lubricated journal bearings have been numerically investigated by solving the coupled fluid dynamic (modified Reynolds equation for temperature dependent oil viscosity) heat balance mechanical deformation equations. A custom built finite element solver has been developed for the purpose of solving the set of coupled equations. Simulation results were in good agreement with literature data.
