2 Sustainability environment protection. The lodging industry consumes huge amounts of resources worldwide and it is our objective to limit our impact on the environment leaving a considerable smaller carbon footprint. Our goal is to ensure, that company facilities and operations are in compliance with environmental standards. We want to take our profession to a place where clients enter into a lasting relation with our hotel, where they live and stay in a climate of trust and our employees come to work with pride and peace of mind, while actively participating in our communities. We believe that an appropriate balance can and should be achieved between environmental goals and economic health; we understand that the only way to win is when everybody wins.

3 Our intentions our goals. Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts vision is to be the preferred and most enjoyable upscale hotel management company for guests, employees, hotel owners and shareholders. Part of the values and fabric of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has always been to conduct its business in a responsible and caring way, encouraging a personal touch with all its stakeholders. It is the value of care that has and continues to guide the company towards sustainable business practices. In 2009, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts announced its global sustainability program based on three key focus areas: social, environmental, and employer sustainability. The company s commitment goes beyond environmental and employer sustainability to also encompass social sustainability. A partnership and company-wide strategy was formed with Green Globe in 2010 to establish a common and global approach to environmental, employer and social sustainability. Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is aiming for all properties to be stamped with Green Globe credentials in the near future.

4 Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts key objectives are to: Positively contribute to the countries and communities in which they operate in a way that is mutually beneicial and sustainable. Work hand in hand with registered local and global charity partners. Encourage and actively promote a philosophy of volunteerism, enable its practicing. Organize and support fundraising initiatives for recognized and approved international charities. Implement donation schemes for guests and team members at hotel and area levels. Promote local products and handicraft.

5 We at Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts also endeavor to ensure to: Comply with applicable environmental laws, regulations and other requirements. Provide sound stewardship of our environmental resources. Promote the use of safe technologies and operation practices that minimize our impact to the environment. Respond immediately to emergencies and minimize any adverse impacts. Continually improve our environmental performance through procedures established in the Environmental Management System. Set environmental objectives and target goals, and measure our progress to these goals. Implement an effective pollution prevention program (minimize the generation of wastes, reduce and recycle materials, investigate and evaluate new practices and procedures and dispose of wastes in an environmentally responsible manner). Ensure the responsible use of energy and water throughout the hotel by implementing innovative practices and procedures for conservation.

Environmental Sustainability At Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts we aim to reduce our consumption through the use of basic measures such as energy eficient lighting, water consumption reduction and a better management of waste and chemicals. We clearly care about the impact we have on the environment and want to take action to do something about it. Employer Sustainability Sustainability as an employer is achieving excellence in human resources and leadership practices while embracing and celebrating diversity. Through the embodiment of quality, trust and care, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is committed to foster a culture that consistently improves team member engagement, development, wellbeing and security. Social Sustainability Our commitment goes beyond environmental and employer sustainability to also encompass social sustainability. Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts supports for example the Child Welfare Scheme, an organization that supports disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people in Nepal.

7 Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna The Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna enjoys a unique location directly on the beach overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Red Sea. To keep this paradise for the generations to come, the resort does not spare any efforts with regards to environmental management and sustainability. For many years, the management of Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna has been leading the example being active in the ield of environmental protection. Some of the successful activities include the reduction of energy and water consumption, the separation and recycling of waste, the implementation of a sustainable purchasing policy, the conducting of team member training and the increase of guest awareness. Our hotel strives to lead the way with sustainable environmental initiatives that will have a long-lasting impact to the community. We consider the key operational aspects of the environmental, social and employer sustainability and compliance with the hospitality industry. We are committed to respect children s rights, keeping them safe in all aspects, whether they are children of guests or those visiting the hotel.

8 Energy and Water Management Within our hotel operations we strive to set objectives and targets by constantly monitoring the environmental impact and reduce the consumption of resources: Replacement of all lamps and light bulbs with energy saving and LED lamps Use of time switches and detectors in several public and back of the house areas Key card system in all rooms activating the electricity, A/C power off system Towel/linen change system on guest request to reduce water, energy and detergent Installation of water saving devices in bathroom, showers and toilets Waste water is treated at the sewage plant on site to irrigate the gardens Landscaping is adapted to the natural surrounding with local plants Garden watering by drip irrigation system. Waste removal and recycling Special emphasis is given to waste management, supported by El Gouna recycling plant, located in the nearby desert, where over 90% of the waste delivered from El Gouna hotels and community is being recycled: Solid waste management plan with quantitative goals to minimize waste Pre-segregation with the help of color coded bins in guest and back areas Separate collection for paper, glass, tin, batteries, plastic, oil, used light bulbs Use recycled papers, tissues, toilet papers and printed material Purchasing policy to maximize purchase of local products and favor bulk packaging Use of hazardous substances is minimized or substituted by safe products Employer Sustainability Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna is committed to fostering a culture that constantly improves team member engagement, development, wellbeing and security: Non discriminatory and transparent hiring policies Providing equal learning and development opportunities to all employees Undertake fairness and transparency in payment, compensation and beneits Improve employee engagement, wellbeing and security Open job opportunity to local hospitality school by sponsoring students Safeguard the well-being and develoment of underaged employees (trainees) Recreation activities, birthday parties, annual staff party for all employees

9 Social Sustainability Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna participates in a range of social activities. We work with the local community, participate in events such as blood donations, beach clean-ups and support local schools and orphanages. Within our Shine Activities, we have set objectives to support on regular basis the living and educational situation for the children and population of Zerzara in Hurghada. Hurghada has known a tremendous growth and development in the past 20 years. A large number of hotels, new residential areas, shopping malls, and a good infrastructure are presenting Hurghada in a positive image and the city on the Red Sea has recently been rewarded as Best Arab Tourist Destination But behind this bright image lies a reality that is often forgotten or ignored: The area of Zerzara in Hurghada is home to thousands of underprivileged people, struggling to survive with a monthly average income of Egyptian Pounds per family, equivalent to USD 3 per day. Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna wants to help and contribute to a better life for these children; the inancial situation of the families often does not allow covering their basic needs, such as regular warm meals, clothes and schooling. Our Shine Activities During the Holy Month of Ramadan the hotel management and a group of team members visited Zerzara area and distributed over 50 bags of food and raw material to poor families. In cooperation with local primary schools, the hotel is sponsoring every year school children by paying the annual school fee, purchasing a uniform set and shoes and offering them a school bag illed with stationary and school utensils. With our engineering team, we are supporting the local primary school in Zerzara and conduct repair and maintenance works. A new water punp has been installed by the hotel. For the cooler winter months, the hotel, its management and team members has purchase blankets and woolen covers for the people in need of Zerzara. Further Shine activities are planned to donate shoes and socks, educate the children on littering, invite school children to a nature outing.

10 Our partners achievements. Green Globe Green Globe is identiied around the world as representing the highest quality in sustainable practices within travel, tourism and related industries. Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is to become one of the largest hotel groups to commit to Green Globe certiication for all properties worldwide. Travelife Travelife is an International certiication system which allows accommodation providers to monitor and self-assess their sustainability performance. It is now recognized within the travel and tourism industry as one of the most comprehensive and credible tolls and supported by major tour operators like Thomas Cook, TUI and Kuoni. Green Star Hotels The Green Star Hotel is a National certiication developed under the patronage of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism to support hotels and resorts in Egypt interested in improving their environmental performance and social standards.

11 Help us to reduce our impact on the environment Making simple changes in your lifestyle can have a signiicant impact on the environment even during your holiday: Turn lights and air conditioning off, when not needed. Keep the balcony door closed, when the air conditioning is in use. Do not let the water in the bathroom run unnecessary. Keep the bath towels and beach towels for at least 2 days. Seperate your rubbish in the designated rubbish bins. Protect the marine life, do not litter, touch corals or collect anything from the sea. Refuse plastic bag when doing a purchase in a souvenir shop. Unplug your electronic appliances when not in use and switch off the main power before leaving your home for vacation.
