1 3 rd ASEAN BIOENERGY WORKSHOP Bioenergy technology for fuel, heat and power generation : Current and Future potential 3 rd -4 th September rd ASEAN BIOENERGY WORKSHOP HANOI UNIVERSTY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY VIETNAM JAPAN INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR SCIENCE OF TECHNOLOGY Prepared by: Tho Van Dinh Son

2 Energy supply security and reduction of greenhouse gas emission are extremely significant issues in the ASEAN region. Renewable energy strategy in which biomass energy contributes considerably is one of perfect keys to solve these issues. The Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE) and National Science Technology and Innovation Policy Office (STI), as working group for Bioenergy Science Technology and Innovation Policy for Thailand in the context of AEC or ASEAN Biomass STI, has recently updated the status of bioenergy resources and technologies in ASEAN. The aim of the project is to identify challenges and opportunities to develop strategies and cooperation that advance science, technology and innovation for biomass technology development of ASEAN countries in agreement with the ASEAN Krabi Inititative s vision of the ASEAN leaders in promoting Science Technology and Innovation for Competitive, Sustainable and Inclusive ASEAN. The 1st ASEAN Bioenergy workshop was organized in Bangkok Thailand in August 2013 and the event Moving Towards a Regional Collaboration in Bioenergy R&D was the 2nd ASEAN Bioenergy workshop. It was organized in Bangkok Thailand in May Honorably, the ASEAN BIOMASS PROJECT (PHASE II) is implemented by Vietnam Japan International Institute for Science of Technology (VJIIST, HUST) in The Meeting with Biomass Industrial companies in Vietnam was organized successfully in Hanoi and Hochiminh city in June The 3rd ASEAN BIOENERGY WORKSHOP will be organized in Hanoi with the collaboration of VJIIST, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The event is the meeting organized annually in order to update the bioenergy technology to incorporate insights from the knowledge and expertise of the key stakeholders, partners, experts and 1

3 ASEAN representatives from the governments, policy makers, academics and private sectors. Expected Participants : The expected participants include experts in bioenergy technology from public and private organizations such as, ministries, research institutes, academic institutes, universities, policy and planning divisions, legislation units, trade and industrial sectors representatives, working groups and committees, etc. Expected Outcomes: Results and prospective discussion including case studies as inputs for the recommendations of research and development roadmap, policy, strategies and actions of ASEAN bioenergy technology. Brainstorming sessions and group discussions among the experts will lead to future networks in the issues of bioenergy technology in ASEAN toward the ASEAN community in 2015 and beyond. 2

4 Invitation Dear participants and colleagues, On behalf of the organizing committee, it is a great pleasure for us to invite you to the 3 rd ASEAN Bioenergy Workshop, which will be held from September 3 rd - September 4 th, 2015 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The aim of the project is to identify challenges and opportunities to develop strategies and cooperation that advance science, technology and innovation for biomass technology development of ASEAN countries in agreement with the ASEAN Krabi Initiatives vision of the ASEAN leaders in promoting Science Technology and Innovation for Competitive, Sustainable and Inclusive ASEAN. This year, it is an honor for Hanoi University of Science and Technology, with the collaboration of VJIIST, HUST, to be the organizers of the 3 rd Workshop. To extend more collaboration opportunities for participants, these conferences will focus on the latest developments in: Bioenergy technology for fuel, heat and power generation. With the enriching insights from invited speakers coming from Japan, Belgium, Vietnam, Institutes and Industries, as well as invited International Institutions and companies we believe that the 3 rd Asean Bioenergy Workshop will open more channels for productive collaborations among the countries in the fields of biomass technology. The 3 rd ASEAN Bioenergy Workshop will take place on September 3 rd - September 4 th, 2015 at Ta Quang Buu Library Building, located at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, which is about 30 km from NoiBai International Airport. This is anticipated to be an ideal place for accommodation, meeting, discussion and leisure of International researchers during the 3rd ASEAN Bioenergy Workshop period. We hope you will take up the opportunities to enjoy Hanoi and its surrounding areas. We look forward to welcoming you at the 3 rd ASEAN Bioenergy Workshop in September Pham Hoang LUONG Vice President of HUST Hanoi, Vietnam 3
