String Level Monitoring vs. Zone Monitoring vs. No Monitoring (flying blind) Based on a case study PV power plant without any monitoring may cost the investor 4% - 6% of pure yield loss over the life cycle of 25 years in combination with monthly inverter inspection and annual plant maintenance only. PV power plant with zone monitoring (inverter Level) may reduce the yield loss down to 1.4% - 1.9% (hardware costs included) over the life cycle of 25 years in combination with corrective inverter maintenance (2 days intervention time) only. PV power plant with string monitoring (string level) may reduce the yield loss down to 0.1% - 0.5% (hardware costs included) over the life cycle of 25 years in combination with corrective maintenance (1 day intervention time) only.
