3 Strategic Support to WSA s Umgeni Water has supported the objectives of DWAF in the following areas: Eradication of School & Household Sanitation Backlogs Ilembe Phase 2 completed & handed over. (1 025 toilets, serving 7,700 people) Ilembe Phase toilets serving 5,800 people umdm to implement ( toilets serving people over 3 yrs) School Sanitation within the umdm, Sisonke DM and Ugu DM in partnership with DoE Phase I & II - 54 schools complete benefiting learners. Phase III Commenced work on 40 schools. Drinking Water Quality Management Alien Plant Clearing Provision of bulk networks Reduction of Water Backlogs Improved level of service - 2nd Rung of Water ladder

9 Strategic Support to DWAF Drinking Water Quality UW has more than three decades of experience in drinking water quality management as part of its water services business. UW has been providing strategic assistance to the DWAF Drinking Water Quality Management and Regulation Programme to enable more effective management and regulation of drinking water quality to protect public health. UW has assisted DWAF in drafting a National Drinking Water Quality Framework and Regulatory Strategy for South Africa.

11 Design of the construction of the R61 Million Richmond pipeline is being done. ZN Bulk Water Supply Schemes Mgeni Regional Scheme Comprises of a number of sub-components: Feasibility planning into the proposed future infrastructure requirements to upgrade the main spine (R300 Million) to ethekwini has been completed. The construction of Umbumbulu R48 Million Bulk Pipeline is complete. [65 jobs created during construction & people in Umgungundlovu & Ugu DMs with new water supplies] Feasibility level planning of an extension of the Wartburg Pipeline (R196 Million) is complete.

12 Mooi Regional Scheme - Pre-feasibility level planning investigation of the Greater Nottingham Road area, which includes the Mooi regional bulk pipeline is complete.

13 Mvoti Regional Scheme -Pre-feasibility level planning of this scheme is underway. North Coast Regional Scheme -Design and the EIA currently underway for the R52 Million North Coast Bulk Pipeline.

14 South Coast Regional Scheme - Construction of the upper portion of the R190 Million South Coast Bulk Pipeline has commenced [potential new population to be served ]

15 Mzimkulu Regional Scheme Conceptual level completed. Pre-Feasibility study to commence once adjacent scheme configuration is finalized. Mzintlava Regional Scheme -External consultants have completed a reconnaissance level planning investigation based on the conceptual scheme initially presented. This study will also guide the configuration of the adjacent schemes.
