Tracing of heavy metals Purpose: to find sources of heavy metals to the collection system Primary target: cadmium Following a model that was presented in Euroslam Kosercina in 2012
Heavy metal control for sewage sludge
Activities and control of the collection system. Downstream Upstream.gives a sludge quality suitable for agricultural use
Euroslam QC in five steps 1. Start with phosphorus balance over the treatment plant 2. Check your flows in the collection system 3. Identify what paramethers that need to be improved 4. Start sampling and analyse in collection system 5. Start adjusting influent flow from various sources

WWTP
Results Balance P and Cd at WWTP gives a tool to what type of water you should be looking for High variation in Cd content long samling periods You can find good water and bad water Areas with high loads of metals are possible to identify Thanks to Euroslam more samling and more analyses was possible to make. A tool has been developed. Yes, we see a reduction in cadmium possible Yes, this is expensive
Pilot trials for resource saving waste water treatment
Scope of Work To produce as much biogas as possible To consume as little electricity as possible To have as compact biological process as possible To achieve high removal rates of BOD and phosphorus To retrofit Knislinge WWTP within existing concrete volumes To engage local staff into the procedure To educate interested people in treatment processes
Pre precipitation Biological treatment Moving Bed Membranes

Results so far (technical) Pre precipitation with ferric chloride and anionic polymer 90% TSS reduction and 70 % BOD reduction More biogas produced less electricity needed Six month to establish biological treatmen in moving bed. Difficulties to remove suspended solids with filter < 10 mg BOD/l and < 0,3 mg P/l Membrane module more complicated than moving bed Time between wash cycles?

Results so far (socio ecological) High production of biogas Small amount of BOD to decompose biologically No extensional work necessary at Knislinge High degree of envolvement from staff Pilot unit is pedagogic and easy to understand Thanks to Euroslam has this project been easier to build as a demonstration and educational unit

Co digestion
Purpose In Sweden, new sludge legislation is expected Higher demand for environmental status Higher demand for certification and quality assurance programs High interest for biogas production New plants with biogas production, certification capacity, environmental control capacity and long term agreements are sought for but they are complicated, expensive and difficult to find
Co-digestion Cost for two Co-digestion one with the same size Investment Ton slam in Kr/ton TS Yearly cost
Technical investment = 3
By cooperation it will be possible to develop human resources at a more advanced way
Result Technical solutions are possible New possibility to build stronger management teams Adressing the market Difficulties for municipalities to cooperate Thanks to Euroslam we have studied technical, economical and organisational issues

Slambehandling Biogas Carbon source Polymer DS 3,5-4,5% 20 dygn 40 m³/h Drainbelt 640 m m 3 Supernatant DS 26 % Centrifug Slam Polymer
A high degree of biogas production influences the waste water treatment process
Results 25 % more biogas Less floating sludge (after hard learning) Possible to dose supernatant as carbon source Important to return supernatant at the right place and at the right time Sometimes the sludge will be to thick Thanks to Euroslam this installation was possible as an experimental installation (more surveillance)
Experiences of Euroslam New thinking, makes creative ideas possible More follow up procedures More cooperation between staff and municipalities
