18 Each Water Services Authority has developed a Water Saving Plan which is being implemented Media awareness campaign aimed at the general public has been running over the past few months Daily water treatment plant production figures are distributed for all stakeholders to monitor if the required water savings are being achieved

24 Progress North Coast System Drought Joint Operating Committee (JOC) set up in Oct 2014 Department of Water & Sanitation (DWS), Department of Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Umgeni Water (UW), ethekwini Metro & ilembe District Municipality (DM) DWS issued directives to all affected Water Services of regarding required 30% & 40% water saving in 2015 Mgeni System Drought JOC set up in December 2015 DWS, CoGTA, UW, ethekwini Metro, umgungundlovu DM, umsunduzi Local Municipality (LM), Ugu DM & Agricultural sector DWS issued directives to all affected Water Service Authorities regarding the required 15% water saving in December 2015 Restriction Notice published in the Government Gazette in March 2016 Harry Gwala (Ixopo) System Drought JOC set up in DWS, CoGTA, UW, Harry Gwala DM, ubuhlebezwe LM DWS issued directives to all affected Water Service Authorities regarding the required 25% & 50% water saving in 2015 South Coast System (Umzinto & EJ Smith dams) Drought JOC set up in 2015 DWS, CoGTA, UW, ethekwini Metro, Ugu DM DWS issued directives to all affected Water Service Authorities regarding the required 25% water saving in June 2015 Committee still intact but system is 100%

25 Conclusions Require to maintain 40% restrictions in Hazelmere System until Lower Thukela Bulk Water Scheme is commissioned in June 2016 Require Mgeni System immediate reduction in water consumption of: 15% for Domestic /Commercial/Industrial 50% for Agriculture, the sector is currently well organised and achieving their target saving Domestic/Industrial sector not achieving their target saving Urgent need for Water Service Authorities to expedite the implementation of their respective Water Saving Plans The implementation of daily water rationing (as has been implemented for Hazelmere) has had to be enforced as the required water savings are not achieved A reassessment of the water restriction level required for the Mgeni System will be undertaken in May 2016 Require to maintain 50% restrictions in ixopo System DWS request of 25% restrictions not (officially) lifted in South Coast System, full demand is supplied at the moment
