Implementation Case: Pere Borrell, Puigcerdà, Catalonia (Spain)

General data 3 Name of the School Type of school Pere Borrell High School High School Number of students Owner 487 public Location Year of construction 46, Escoles Pies Street Barcelona 1956

General data 4 Building typology Heated area (m 2 ) 5 floor building m 2 Heating degree days (base 18): 3416 Cooling degree days (base 21): 35 Site High density

General data 5 Renovation needs High Priority: building envelop + biomass boiler + lighting management Building use Schedule for high school: Standard Use: From second week of September till last week of June Standard Use (class): Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 08:00 to 21:30

Current Situation 6 Building envelope: Walls Brick Wall No insulation U = 1,69 W/m².K Building envelope: Roof (pitched roof) Roof with insulation and waterproofing U = 3,17 W/m².K Building envelope: Groundfloor Ground floor consists of concrete U = 0,47 W/m².K Building envelope: Windows Double glazed windows with wood frames Uw = 5,7 W/m².K

Current Situation 7 Airtightness: No measurements Heating/Cooling: Fuel boiler and foundry radiators. Ventilation: Ventilation by opening windows in classroom Lighting: Fluorescent tubes T8 controlled by users Appliances: Classroom: PC, Hifi video Office: PC, Printer, Copy Machine DHW: Fuel boiler with a collector tank. Cooking: Cantine with warm meals 2013 final energy consumption kwh/m 2 conditioned area (from bills, metering etc.): *66 kwh/m² y for heating (estimation) *21 kwh/m² y for electricity (estimation) *Total = 87 kwh/m² per year (Bills)

Current Situation 8 Equipment Age and Maintenance Needs Lighting : Fluorescent lamp T8 installed in build HVAC/ Boiler: Fuel heating system controlled by users. HVAC/Distribution Network: no HVAC/other components Single flow ventilation on bathrooms HVAC/other components no Windows Double glazed with wood frame dating from the construction Other Building Components no Other Maintenance Needs no Other Renovation Needs Improvement of solar protection

Current Situation 9 Health & Comfort Summer comfort: Lack of comfort in May, June and September Lack of comfort in winter Interior air quality: No permanent ventilation Visual comfort: Problems of glaring Running Contracts and Management Running cost: Energy Supply Contract Energy: /year Water: No data Maintenance: no data Electricity Energy Management Contract No data Building Maintenance Private contract with maintenance company + local technical staff

NZEB Renovation 10 ZEMedS Goals: Requirement 1: C PE Prod RES 0 Primary energy consumption yearly (heating, cooling, ventilation, DHW and lighting) is produced by local renewable energies. Requirement 2: C FE 25 kwh/m2 y FE consumption yearly (heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting) per conditioned area Requirement 3: Indoor air quality guaranteed (CO ppm) and temperature above 28ºC 40 hours yearly during occupancy National factors for conversion in energy and CO 2 have been taken into account (data 2014). Primary Energy from non renewable energy sources covered by renewable energy Final energy consumption (all uses except DHW & cooking) Overheating limited to Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) is guaranteed 0 (annual balance) C FE hours over 28ºC annually CO ppm

NZEB Renovation Status 11 Actual status referring to the the foreseen ZEMedS Renovation Process Diagnostic /Current situation Planning Design Companies consulting Works Reception of works Use and maintenance Diagnostic/ Current Situtation: A preliminary energy consumption analysis has been done by Ensenyament. There is no previous analysis nor simulations. Ensenyament has done several face to face meeting in order to define the users needs of improvement.

Energy Saving Potential 12 Actual Final Energy Consumption ZEMedS Target Consumption by Bills Natural Gas: no Electricity: kwh/year = 21 Other Fuel: kwh/year = 66 Total: kwh/year = 87 Final energy consumption (all uses except DHW & cooking) C FE 25 Estimation: Specific Electricity Consumption (not including Lighting): 11 Domestic Hot Water Consumption: 1 Expected Total Consumption after successful ZEMedS Renovation: kwh/year = 37.0 Heating/Cooling and Ventilation: C HVAC 20 Lighting: Cligh 5 Total Energy Saving Potential Theoretical Saving kwh.year Theoretical Gain 58 %
