2 TEM MEDIUM IRRIGATION PROJECT 1 PROJECT AT A GLANCE 1.1 The Preliminary investigation of the TEM Medium Irrigation Project was started in the year 2014 with a view to construct storage reservoir across river TEM to irrigate the area coming under Maksudangarh tehsil of Guna District 9440 Ha. and Berasia of Bhopal Distt. 550 Ha. The Gross & Culturable Command Area under this project is Ha (GCA) and 9990 Ha (CCA) respectively. 1.2 LOCATION OF THE PROJECT: The Tem Medium Project Dam Site is located on the River Tem (which is subtributary of Parvati River and it meets Betwa River in Yamuna basin) near Village- Dapkan in Block- Lateri of District- Vidisha Madhya Pradesh at Latitude '-57" N & Longitude '-15" E The project site can be approached by traveling 40 km on Bhopal Berasia road and than by travelling 50 km on Berasia - Nazirbad road. Thus total distance from Bhopal to site is 90 kms. The nearest railway station to project site is Bhopal which is 90 km away from dam site. 1.3 NECESSITY OF THE PROJECT:- Irrigation development in state of Madhya Pradesh is only 28.2 % which is below as compared to national average of 38.75%.The district of Guna is located in Chambal region of MP, the irrigation development is below the state s average figure. Crop cultivation in this district is totally dependent on rainfall and on the vagaries of monsoon. Providing irrigation will improve the economic condition of the farmers and result in efficient utilization of soil and water resources of the region. State and the region are experiencing erratic rainfall, which has further worsened the situation. Fertile land is available in Maksudarngargh & Berasia Tehsil where reliable irrigation system can make a great difference and yield of crop may increase many fold. Thus, this will result in overall development of the region. Also during summer season, the ground water table goes deep and the region suffers from the acute shortage of drinking water. Creation of water bodies and developing irrigation systems in the region will result in recharge of ground water and improvement in ecology and will have a great positive impact on the environment and wild life of the region. To improve the scenario and to have overall development of the Guna Distt., Govt of Madhya Pradesh has planned TEM Medium Irrigation Project to provide irrigation in areas of Maksudangarh & Berasia tehsil by storing the river flow from TEM River. 1.4 WATER AVAILABILITY:- The Catchment Area of the TEM Dam is Sq.Km. Three rain gauge stations are influencing this project area i.e. Vidisha. Rainfall data is available

3 for station for Maksudangarh for period of 33 years respectively. The rainfall statistics of the project area is as follows. Average Annual Rainfall = mm Maximum Monsoon Rainfall = mm dated Minimum annual Rainfall = mm in Year There is observed gauge & discharge data from Maksudangarh G.D. site available at the proposed dam site and in down stream sides also. Hence the yield is worked out R.R. relationship and adopted after comparing with other projects in the basin. Rainfall data is available for Maksudangarh G.D. station for period of 33 years respectively. Weighted rainfall for the catchment is computed. This gives 75% dependable yield as MCM. 1.5 IRRIGATION PLANNING: The area is predominantly of Rabi as the principle crop. Based on the existing cropping pattern the following good yielding crops are proposed to irrigate during Rabi season. Intensity of Irrigation 100% The crop water requirements are worked out for 33 years as per Modified Pen-man method and based on the guide lines suggested by T.C No.25 (with upto date amendments), MPWRD Bodhi.) Flood : The computation of S.P.F. have been carried out by synthetic unit hydrograph approach as per CWC estimation report for Betwa Sub Zone I (c). The design peak flood values worked out as Cumec. Adopting a silt rate of 0.75 Acre ft./ Sq mile / Yr., the total silt load computed as Ham ( Acre ft.) The principal levels of TEM Dams are as follows: i) T.B.L = RL M ii) iii) iv) M.W.L = RL M F.R.L = RL M L.S.L = RL M v) River Bed Level = M

4 1.5.5 The Submergence area at F.R.L is Ha. out of which forest submergence area is Ha. revenue land submergence is Ha. and private land submergence is Ha. 1.6 Main Components of The Tem Project:- Canal System is proposed to take-off from Sluice at RD 150 m on Right flank of TEM Dam. The Total length of Main canal is Km. Total number of villages under this command area is 69 Nos. Head discharge at Main canal is 5.25 Cumec. 1.7 Recommendation: The site is located in un-irrigated area of Lateri Tehsil Distt. Vidisha. People are in acute need of water for irrigating their fields and for domestic use. Also it will generate employment during construction period. The unit wise cost of the project is estimated adopting USR (Govt. of Madhya Pradesh, Water Resource Deptt. in force from The estimated cost of the project works out to be Rs Lakhs. The cost per Ha on CCA works out to be Rs 3.74 Lakhs per Ha, cost per Ha on ICA (i.e 9990 Ha) works out to be Rs 3.74 Lakhs per Ha and cost per Ha on annual irrigation (i.e 9990 Ha) works out to be Rs 3.74 Lakhs per Ha and B.C ratio is 1.69:1. Looking to current price the cost of scheme is reasonable. Therefore, the scheme is suitable for construction. It is therefore recommended that if the project is implemented, it will extend benefit to a large number of beneficiaries and it will improve the economic conditions of the project area and the nearby areas. The government is also keen for the developing the backward region. Hence the Tem Medium Project is recommended for sanction & construction at an earliest.
