Can the UN Sustainable Sevelopment Goals (SDG) add value to the Beer & Beverage Industry? NIRAS LONDON - MAY 2018

Agenda Who is NIRAS What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) How are the breweries implementing them NIRAS SDG services to the Beer & Beverage industry SDG Audit and roadmap Reporting and financing 2

Our knowledge covers widely Scandinavian based engineering consultant with experts and consultants Building Process Industry Energy GIS, Geodata & Automation Environment & Nature Development Consulting Infrastructure Working Environment Consulting Water & Utilities Analysis & Planning 3

NIRAS have more than 250 experts working in the global Beer & Beverage Industry Operational Excellence & Sustaining Capital SDG, Sustainability & Food Safety Definition & Design of Production Facilities Delivery of Production Facilities (CAPEX) Project Management Production & Packaging Logistics & Supply Chain Current Projects Offices 4

NIRAS has delivered 50+ green field breweries and projects 5

The SDGs are the commitment to sustainability objectives made by 192 countries by year The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations. The goals apply to nearly all countries. The goals are interconnected often the key to success on one will involve tackling issues more commonly associated with another. 6

A brewery is probably the best industry to support the SDG goals Beer generates income in production, distribution and sales supporting every business types. Local production replaces imports A brewery requires multiple skill sets: mechanical, automation, laboratory supporting education and apprentices A brewery can use both highly skilled and unskilled workers from both genders A brewery will have focus on resource consumption and zero waste to be competitive - and SDG conscious A brewery has the size and spans multiple technologies enabling exploration and usage of clean energy A brewery will have high focus on Occupational Health and Safety by design and in operations Support SDG, build a brewery and drink responsible 7

UN SDGs adapted by the brewing industry? Brief case study Four large brewing Companies and their commitment 1. To verify how they have committed to UN SDGs. 2. Find links between companies sustainability strategy and the UN SDGs. 8

Commitment to existing strategy All 4 companies have committed to UN SDGs. Overview of explicit links to the companies existing sustainability strategies: 9 Responsible consumption Water reduction Energy WWTP Reduction Health & safety Recycling Zero waste Clean Energy Local Production

Commitment to the SDGs actually adding value Consumer Investors WHY Government Profit 10

NIRAS covers not only engineering SDGs NIRAS has 2 main SDG legs: The engineering leg that design and optimizes production plants. The development consulting leg that covers development aid projects and capacity building This enables us to support you to encompass more SDG s including potential funding NIRAS Engineering Hydrogeology & Bore wells Water treatment Water usage & re-usage Waste water treatment Energy efficiency Energy recovery Green technologies Emission monitoring Environmental footprint Health and safety Physical and psychological working environment Stress and job satisfaction NIRAS Development Consulting Soil and contamination Nature rehabilitation Enhance sustainable production Aid Project Governance Shaping institutional frameworks Monitoring projects Skills development Employment promotion Gender equality Human rights Food Safety Responsible production Recycling Sustainable agriculture Crop and Livestock production Sustainable value chains 11

SDG Audit and Roadmap

Realize your full SDG potential How to meet sustainability targets Pre-audit Audit Realization Monitoring Identify possible potential based on strategy and benchmarks Verify potentials and specify initiatives Drive and guide implementation Changes in market, cost structure, production etc. requires new actions Top-down Bottom-up Re-visit with focus on new potential Verify or set targets Verify and roadmap to meet targets Implement Reap and improve 1 day 1 2 weeks 6 24 months Following years 13

You can select/customize your audit scope and focus SDG focus.. Focus SDG Benchmarking Capacity Opex Capex Operational excellence Scope Utility Process Packaging Support functions Logistics 14

Reduction of the water factor Is it possible to have a water factor of 1.5 l/l without using recycled water for brewing? Water factor hl/hl Best practice World Class NIRAS Target Assumptions: Recycling treated waste water as service water and technical water Mashfilter in Brewhouse Membrane filter for Beer filtration Water for vacuum pumps is cooled Low evaporation rate Yeast recovery Other water saving initiatives Yes it is possible 15

02 Climate reporting & funding

Sustainability & Climate Reporting Sustainability reporting Internal sustainability scorecard Climate reporting Performance report required by financial institutions, e.g. pension funds. Sustainable reporting has four advantages: 1. Support countries in fulfilling reporting obligations 2. CO 2 reduction will have a value in the future, thus the relevance of measuring correctly 3. Input to operations optimization 4. Attract financing 17

Finance engagements SDG audit & planning Recommendations Climate reporting Financing Implementation Advisory and network: We have the overview of financing opportunities for SDGrelated projects: Asian Development Bank Financial Advisor Green Climate Fund Private Sector Advisor Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Mentor and Panel..

Renewable Energy Implementation Case B: Biomass CHP-plant Denmark Client: Utility company 22 MWth/4 MWe Wood chip CHP plant combined with 16 MWth solar energy plant Thermal oil boiler with Organic Ranking Cycle (ORC) Technology Concentrating Solar Panels (CSP) CHP on renewable fuel - savings on heat price for end clients, zero-emissions Financing secured 3 MEUR for Solar Panels from EU 19

Yes! The SDG agenda can add value to the Beer and Beverage industry The SDG targets already part of the business strategy for most major global brewers There is still work to be done on defining the road map towards the SDG s SDG audits a strong starting point SDG goes hand in hand with obtaining higher efficiency in the supply chain Financing for SDG investments is available 20
