PROGRAMME BG02 INTEGRATED MARINE AND INLAND WATER MANAGEMENT BUDGET: 9, 41 M 3 call for proposals 12 projects Period for implementation

INTEGRATED MARINE AND INLAND WATER MANAGEMENT Integrated Management of flood risk in Burgas Municipality Improved Management of impact of fish farming on surface water bodies Improved Management of the impact of metal ore extraction and water treatment Measures for ecosystems protection and improving ecological conditions of rivers during the construction of hydropower plants Adaptation of monitoring programmes for cross-border groundwater bodies between Bulgaria and Greece in accordance with requirements of Directive 2000/60/EC and Directive 2006/118/EC Established information system for the management of the coastal zone Established national Geographycal Information System for water management

IMPROVED MONITORING OF MARINE WATERS Improved programs for monitoring according to Marine Strategy Framework Directive Investigated concentrations of chemical pollutions in marine environment (Descriptor 8) Investigated pollutions in marine seafood (Descriptor 9) Investigated the content of plastic micro particles in fish stomach (Descriptor 10)

Improved capacity for assessment and forecasting of ecological status in marine waters and freshwaters Established tools for evaluation of wastes, eutrophycation and noise in marine waters Studied marine noise (Descriptor 11) Collected data for wastes in the coast and marine environment (Descriptor 10) Established specialized laboratory for testing of marine and freshwater recourses and aquaculture Increased capacity for testing and management of marine and non-fish recourses in Black Sea

EFICIENCY AND SUSTAINABILITY The Information system for water management of Burgas municipality proved that it is as a successful pilot model that can be implemented at a national level for population protection Bulgaria is amongst the firs countries to assure objective evaluation for definition of good status of marine environment to implement Marine Strategy Framework Directive of European Commission Developed conditions for Electronic Water Management in line with the Strategy for the Development of Electronic Governance in the Republic of Bulgaria Provided tools for integrated coastal zone management of the Black Sea Sustainable use of non-fish resources Conservation of river ecosystems in the construction of hydropower plants Sustainable use of marine and freshwater resources for fish farming BLACK SEA WATCH

Conservation of biodiversity and evaluation of ecosystem services 1. Increased understanding and awareness for biodiversity and ecosystem services 2. Improved conservation of Nature ecosystems from Invasive Alien Species 3. Improved integration of biodiversity considerations into sectoral policies and legislation 4. Ecosystem investigations to Implement the Biodiversity Strategy by Developed strategies, legislation and/or other policy documents

Conservation of biodiversity Trained volunteers 686/240 Publications, exhibitions and other awareness tools 59/ field forms imported in the National system for monitoring of biodiversity

Conservation of biodiversity Project ESENIAS General standard methods for data collecting and analyses are accepted Developed technical infrastructure Collected data for Invasive Alien Species (marine, freshwater and dryland plants, fungi and animal species) from the countries partners from ESENIAS network and including them in a database General lists of the invasive and priority species for the ESENIAS region (10 partners) and Bulgaria Strengthening and expanding the cooperation within ESENIAS. Three new member states are included in the network Slovenia, Hungary and Ukraine. Exchanged and shared information and developed partnership with other related organizations, entities and networks Publicity measures: 205 presentations and posters, 5 books, 45 scientific articles, 86 reviews The main contribution of the project is the established cooperation and tools for data exchange about Invasive Alien Species between countries of the ESENIAS network and increased protection of the local ecosystems against Invasive Alien Species in Bulgaria

Developed strategies, legislation and/or other policy documents MFORES PoliciES Prepared regional plan for development of forest territories Established connection between the state of forests and climate change and recommendations made for the development of the forestry sector RIGHTS Developed a draft national strategy for plant genetic resources An action plan for plant genetic resources has been established Survey conducted on farmers' rights in Bulgaria SPECIES A final version of the sustainable use strategy for the Black Sea coastal ecosystems
