How to improve the LED ESH issues and GHG emission reduction in Taiwan Joey, Lu

Outline Introduction Big ESH challenge of LED industry Solution and improvement GHG emission reduction in Taiwan LED industry

Energy Saving Policies Speed up the LED Lighting Adoption Green Policies from each country Europe USA From 2008 to 2012, Europe will reduce 13% of the overall 6 greenhouse gas emissions, compared to the emission scale in The interim goal is to cut 20% greenhouse gas emission in 2020 and to raise the rate of renewable energy out of the total energy to at least 20%. Before 2020, USA will reduce 17% of greenhouse gas emission, compared to that of Japan China India Brazil Russia Estimate to decrease 25% of carbon emission by (1990 as base year) By 2020, carbon emission GDP will reduce to 40%~45% than in 2005, and set it as an indicator of the 12 th Five-Year Plan India s government indicates that by 2020, its greenhouse gas emission will decrease 24% of the carbon emission than that in Brazil s commitment of using replaceable energy and clean power technologies will minimize the carbon emission in 2020 to 36-39%, compare to its present situation. Russia has agreed that before 2020, they will reduce 20%~25% greenhouse gas emission than that in 1990.

LED Application-LED Backlight Market LED Backlight Penetration Rate LED Backlight Market Revenue The image cannot be displayed. Your computer may not have enough memory to open the image, or the image may have been corrupted. Restart your computer, and then open the file again. If the red x still appears, you may have to delete the image and then insert it again. 2009~2013 CAGR 65% LED-backlit NB has entered the mature phase; its penetration rate is expected to exceed 90% in 2010 LED-backlit TV penetration rate is expected to reach 16~20% in 2010, and 68% in LED-backlit MNT, price is the key consideration; its penetration is expected to surge after 2H10

LED lighting is Taking Off - The LED lighting will be aggressively penetrating 70bn lighting market with over 100% CAGR till 2013, and maintaining 2-digi growth by LED lighting will be approaching 50% share by Source: Philips, LEDinside estimates Source: Toshiba

Taiwan LED Industry Overview The gross output value of Taiwan LED is 2bn US dollars in It s about 25% in the world. Probably, The gross output value will be 5 bn in 2011

Big challenge of InGaN Product Target The major problem of wastewater from ammonia nitrogen (NH 3 - N). In the near future, The wastewater discharge standard of ammonia has to less than 20mg/l for exit and less than 5mg/l for new factory in Taiwan. Source Local and Central Scrubber wastewater Treatment flow Waste ammonia nitrogen gas caught by washing water in a scrubber. H 2, N 2, NH 3 NH3 (waste gas) discharge Process way Wastewater way Exhaust way NH 3 -N Conc. 800~1,200 mg/l

Big challenge of AlGaInP Product H 2, N 2, PH 3, AsH 3 Phosphorus (solid) Waste water as As Conc. 1,000~2,000mg/l Waste water as As Conc. 100~200mg/l As Conc.<0.5 mg/l Process way Waste way Wastewater way Exhaust way As Conc.< mg/nm3

The effluent discharge standards for the optoelectronics industry Cover gallium, indium, and molybdenum in wastewater, as well as levels of TTO and acute organism toxicity The affected industries TFT-LCD LED PV (photovoltaic) The industry area which included the optoelectronics companies that include semiconductor companies

Environmental and Safety Sustainable Development Committee Started to establish the ESH data sharing in association GHG emissions inventories and verification GHG emissions inventories and verification NH 4 waste water treatment technology assessment Energy loss diagnosis by ultrasound technology 2007~ GHG emissions inventories and verification Volatile organic compounds reduction Energy consumption baseline as SEMI S23 Product carbon footprint Corporate social responsibility Carbon reduction

Energy Saving Activity & Contribution TOSIA enables to save energy as well as to achieve higher performance in various LED product. Contribution Manufacturing Contribution Creating Green LED products that use less energy. Purchasing Green inputs to make LED. Outside Contribution Designing LED products that enable energy savings at the electronic systems level. Providing products that enable customers and society to save energy (Green Lights). Use LED lighting to replace mercury lamp will save 2.3 hundred million tons of CO 2 emission (With the assumption of one million street lights working for 10 hours per day for 1 year) As a result, an approximately one hundred twenty tons of carbon dioxide was reduced by 7 companies

Establishment of environmental safety and health (ESH) Index for Benchmark These environmental protection industrial safety issues include: the use of energy and water resources waste management greenhouse gas emissions ESH occupational accident percentage Category Water Energy Solid waste produced Liquid waste solvent produced Working safety Item Whole factory water usage Process water usage Pure water usage Waste water amount Suspended Solid (SS) Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) Fluoride Water recovery rate (whole plant) Electricity consumption Natural gas Heavy oil LPG Diesel Mixed metal scrap Scrapped Mercury Material Inorganic sludge Harmful arsenic sludge Harmful copper sludge Other general waste The amount of waste solvent recycling for reuse Waste solvent Total waste amount Waste recycling rate Disabling Frequency Rate (FR) -13- Disabling Severity Rate (SR) 13

TOSIA GHG Emission Trends

GHGs Emission Distribution the other direct emission sources includes LNG, LPG, gasoline, diesel, VOCs, septic tanks, HFCs refrigerants, CO 2 fire extinguishers, etc., which account for about 2.27% of total emissions. the emissions of fluorinated gas (PFCs and SF6) used in the process (including CVD and Etching) accounts for 6.15% -17- greenhouse gas emission is mainly from indirect energy emissions produced by the use of electricity (91.58%). 17

Conclusion LED Market bigger and ESH Issues more impact Taiwan owns one of the world s largest LED epiwafer and chip manufacturing capacity. TSMC has announced its advancement into LED markets by constructing a LED lighting R&D center and fab in Taiwan. The first phase investment is expected to reach $170M. Creating a sharing platform for ESH issues Taiwan s LED industry setup the only one ESH committee in the global LED industries. Continue to implement greenhouse gas inventory and verification, in order to understand the LED industry carbon footprint. Cooperation with other LED industry Promoting the international cooperation meeting Creating a green product in the future Reduce the GHG emission in -19- the manufacturing 19
