2 Regional Environmental Center (REC) o The REC is a non-partisan, non-advocacy, not-for profit international organization with a mission to assist in solving environmental problems o The REC is legally based on a charter signed by the governments of 31 countries and the European Commission o Established in1990, head office in Hungary, offices in 17 countries o REC Turkey started its operations in Turkey following the ratification of a bilateral agreement by the Turkish Parliament (TBMM) in 2004

3 European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE) "Rewarding Innovation for Sustainability" European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE) is given to the pioneer businesses in 28 EU countries and Turkey for their practices on sustainability and innovation. EBAE aims to promote managing environmental social and economic issues in a holistic manner. o o o Given for 25 years Held every two years (first year national awards, second year European awards) Appx. 150 finalists from 29 countries

4 Award Categories 1. Management Award This Award is for a successful organisation or group of organisations with the strategic vision and management scheme that enable it to continuously improve its environmental performances. 2. Product/Services Award This Award is for the successful placing on the market of a new product or service that makes an outstanding contribution to sustainable development. 3. Process Award This Award is for the successful application of an innovative solution in the area of process and production methods. 4. International Cooperation Award This Award is for an international business cooperation involving at least one private entity from the European Union, and another from the private, public, non-governmental or academic sector in an emerging or developing country. 5. Biodiversity Award (Special Mension) This Award is for a successful business model, management scheme, product and service or international cooperation which makes a significant contribution to halting biodiversity loss and supporting natural ecosystems.

9 Successful Turkish Companies in EBAE MANAGEMENT CATEGORY WINNER ( ): "Blue Life Integrated Sustainability Management System" Eczacıbaşı VitrA has established itself as a European leader in the bathroom and tile products industry. As part of their company philosophy of giving back to society, Eczacıbaşı Yapı Gereçleri has been on the forefront of global sustainability initiatives. In 2010 it launched the Blue Life Integrated Sustainability Management System initiative which measures, reports and improves the sustainability credentials of all Eczacıbaşı Building Products (EPB) business processes. In 2013, 3.7 million m3 of natural gas and 7.2 thousand tons of raw material saved, as well as the prevention of 118 tons of CO2 emissions

11 Successful Turkish Companies in EBAE PRODUCT CATEGORY WINNER ( ): "Energy Efficient Heat Transfer Fluid for Heating and Cooling" Hydromx is a revolutionary nanofluid that achieved a step change in heat transfer efficiency with its enhanced heat transmission capability, generating substantial savings (up to 35%) in energy consumption of closed loop hydronic heating and cooling systems, and so also a decrease in CO2 emissions (up to %25). Its products can be used in extreme temperature conditions without the need for additional chemicals such as antifreeze. In addition to the direct benefits, the product has the potential to create its own ecosystem of new Cleantech products with enhanced energy efficiency due to improved hydronic heat transfer properties.

12 Successful Turkish Companies in EBAE PROCESS CATEGORY RUNNER-UP ( ): "Environmentally-friendly nano chrome coating system in LCD TV and smartphone manufacturing industries" Vestel developed the nano chrome coating process (which integrates Ultraviolet curing coating and Physical Vapor Deposition sputtering processes) for LCD TV and smartphone products to avoid producing waste and using dangerous chemicals. It was the first company of its kind, and that it has managed to significantly reduce the cycle time for the coating process, whilst eliminating an environmentally harmful process and replacing it with a more ecological, economical and sustainable solution with replicable potential. In 2015, 430 tons of raw material saved = 1,118 tons of CO2e saved
