5 Energy Management Agency Province of Cádiz APEC Think globally, act locally The Provincial Energy Management Agency of Cádiz (APEC) is a nonprofit foundation with funding by the Provincial Government of Cádiz. The Agency was created in 2006 within the framework of the Intelligent Energy for Europe (Directorate-General for Energy and Transport European Commission) from a growing concern surrounding the deficiencies existing in the current outlook on energy and fostered by the plan of establishing energy management agencies on both local and regional level. The Agency aspires to be an instrumental key component to companies, organizations and institutions sharing the same motivations toward a new and necessary energy model, sensitive to the principles of sustainable, renewable energy and respect to the environment. To meet these goals the Agency works daily towards: Objectives and goals > Promoting, developing and managing actions aimed to defense of the environment and fight against the climate change. > Increasing the use of renewable energies within the province. > Cultivating a culture of energy saving and efficiency, and carrying out energy audits. > Promoting information and participation on issues relating to energy and sustainable environment. 7 Energy Management Agency Province of Cádiz APEC 40 municipalities of the Province of Cadiz have signed the Covenant of Mayors and have undertaken to fight against climate change going beyond the EU objectives for reducing CO 2 emissions through energy efficiency measures, actions related to renewable energy sources and clean transport. APEC is acting as Supporting Structure. 11 Horizon 2020 Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly 80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) its emphasis on excellent science, industrial leadership and tackling societal challenges. The goal is to ensure Europe produces world-class science, removes barriers to innovation and makes it easier for the public and private sectors to work together in delivering innovation. Their strategic goals are the following: To create a science of excellence that will strengthen the EU's position at global level. Develop technologies and their applications ensuring Research securing Europe's global competitiveness. Research the main issues affecting the European citizens.
