Abnormally high incidences of ultraviolet radiation on the earth surface due to depletion of stratospheric ozone and climate change due to artificial introduction of green house gases are the basic problems. Those are interrelated both are caused by human produced gases released into atmosphere. They differ however, in that there is a general scientific and political consensus concerning the deterioration of ozone layer, whereas potential global warming remains subject to controversy. Stratospheric ozone absorbs U.V. radiation and shields the earth surface from large amount of U.V. radiations reaching the earth surface. Increased UV radiation exposure can result in increases in skin cancer and cataracts among humans, the inhibition of photosynthetic processes in certain plants, the disruption of insect activity and decreases in productivity of ocean ecosystem. Disruptions of the ozone layer would also cause the stratosphere to cool potentially affecting climate patterns on Earth. Many trace atmospheric gases such as carbon-dioxide, methane, water vapour and manmade CFCs are relatively-transparent to sunlight but opaque to infrared radiation. This results in the heating of the earth s surface and lower atmosphere the greenhouse effect. Without a natural greenhouse effect the surface of earth would be a frozen mass, but too much greenhouse effect could also cause abnormal global warming.
