2 By 2020, the south East Asian (SEA) countries are expected to have a combined population of approximately 650 million people. More than half of these are expected to be living in urban areas. According to the UN, the daily generation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) per capita in the region is 1.14 kg/capita/day. Non-sanitary-landfills, open dumping and open burning of waste are common practices in most SEA countries. Therefore, there is a great need for waste treatment technologies. Why join? 3 The Embassies of Denmark in the SEA countries (Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines) invite Danish companies to take part in the : 1. Danish seminar at the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) World Congress, Oct 2018, in Kuala Lumpur 2. Two (2) events at SEA markets of choice in Danish Seminar at ISWA 2018 For the first time, the Embassies in the region will be working together to bring waste industry stakeholders from the SEA markets to ISWA to meet with Danish companies with mutual interest in providing solutions to waste handling in the region. The event aims to provide information to Danish companies on: The SEA waste industry and its opportunities, Insight in the market potential for products and services, Possible leads to distributors, customers or partners etc., A great networking opportunity to share experiences and learn from both local and other Danish stakeholders in the region. 4 For this event, Danish companies can expect: Speaking slot at Danish seminar, Having SEA regional stakeholders as guests to seminar, Networking reception at Danish residence with local & regional stakeholders, Site visit to EPIC, pioneer waste technology centre in SEA region. Note: Expenses NOT covered include ISWA conference fees, flight tickets, hotel and local transportation, however the embassy will assist in the planning as necessary. Phase 2 Events at chosen SEA markets In continuation of ISWA event, Danish companies can choose up to 2 events at different SEA markets in 2019, These events can be seminars, roundtable talks, fora to be held at the Danish Embassies, or at the local stakeholders venues, For example, we can arrange for 1 seminar in each of Hanoi and in Ho Chi Minh City, or we can arrange for site visits and a seminar in Jakarta, or 1 seminar in Manila and 1 seminar in Bangkok. Other combinations are also possible, based on your interest, The Embassies will take interests of participating companies into consideration when preparing, To ensure local interest, each event must have a minimum of 3 participating companies. 6 ISWA the International Solid Waste Association is a global, independent and non-profit making association, working in the public interest and is the only worldwide association promoting sustainable, comprehensive and professional waste management. The 28th ISWA World Congress will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from October The Congress is jointly organised by the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) and the Waste Management Association of Malaysia (WMAM) with the support of the Malaysian Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government and Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change. This year s theme, Sustainable Consumption towards Waste Minimization, focusing on driving strategic change and technological innovation toward sustainable consumption solutions whilst reducing our ecological footprint. The Congress expects to deliver a technical program that will highlight this. The congress is expected to be joined by key ASEAN ministers responsible for solid waste management, encourage them to participate in a dialogue to re-evaluate waste management policy and practices within the region.

10 In total, the six countries generate million tonnes per year. Around 50 pct. of the generated waste is defined as organic or biodegradable waste. Low recycling rate in the region, except for Singapore. Low collection coverage in the region, except for Singapore. Large potential for Danish technologies in different areas of waste management

11 Embassy fees SME 31, Larger companies 47, A minimum of 4 companies is required for this project to be activated via the Strategic Business Alliance program offered by the Trade Council, If 50% or more companies signed up are SMEs, larger companies will also be able to enjoy the same rate as the SMEs.
