3 Croatia adopted a binary system of higher education in which the academic study programmes (based on research) and professional study programmes (originating from research) are developed side by side, the latter having a lot of practical training, and having teachers who are recognized as experts in their field and taking a considerable part in the country s economy.

4 Polytechnic of Zagreb was founded in 998 by the Government of Croatia to develop the professional technical study programmes with a 0 years tradition -year professional study programmes today: 600 students in Civil Engineering: 000 engineer employment

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT nd cycle: Teaching students to apply elementary instruments of environmental protection (environmental impact assessment procedures and environmental management procedures).

21 Our students are ready for: water quality protection and preservation, waste management and disposal, environmental impact studies management of environmental protection activities management of plants and construction of public water supply facilities municipal water supply district and county-level offices for space planning and for environmental protection and preservation inspection services in environmental protection procedures and regulations relating to environmental protection, especially as related to civil engineering, and are capable to independently implement such procedures and regulations
