Biodiversity Economy focus on businesses and economic activities that either directly depend on biodiversity for their core business or contribute actively to conservation of biodiversity. 3 Namibian Biodiveristy Economy Vision Namibia has a vibrant biodiversity economy in which people benefit from ecosystems and their services on a equitable basis through the sustainable use of biodiversity around specific landscapes and value chains. 6 Developing the Biodiversity Economy in selected Landscapes The overarching project goal is to put key players in the position to establish, coordinate and finance the biodiversity economy in selected landscapes effectively. Outcome-Indicator 1 Benefits derived from the landscapes in terms of ecosystem services and income generation have been increased Outcome-Indicator 2 Area under conservation management have increased and landscape-connectivity is improved Output 1: Landscape institutionalization Landscape associations are established and cooperate along joint conservation and development objectives towards a biodiversity economy Output 2: Greening of value chains & sectors Biodiversity-relevant value chains are greened and best-practices guidelines for biodiversity-relevant sectors developed and applied Output 3: Coordination & Mainstreaming The biodiversity economy is coordinated and mainstreamed at national level and considered in the next national development plan Output 4: Framework conditions & up-scaling Legal and economic framework conditions supporting the biodiversity economy are improved Output 5: Capacity Development Necessary capacities for implementing and continuing the biodiversity economy are strengthened Activity 1.1 Establishment and support of coordination units at landscape level Activity 2.1 Growth strategies of existing value-chains (e.g. handicrafts) and such under development (e.g. biomass from bush) will be revised and greened Activity 3.1 Establishment of a national steering committee and secretariat Activity 4.1 Introduction of supportive sustainable production and consumption measures to support the biodiversity economy Activity 5.1 Facilitation of regional and international experience sharing through study tours, exchanges and conferences Activity 1.2 Formulation of strategic plans for each landscape with specific conservation and development strategies Activity 2.2 Implement the natural capital protocol with selected companies to identify and develop corporate best practices Activity 3.2 Policy dialogue based on a Design Thinking approach to mobilize and assure buy-in at national level Activity 4.2 Implement the resource mobilisation strategy prepared by ResMob project (biodiversity-offsets, PES, etc.) Activity 5.2 Develop and conduct tailor made-trainings and training-oftrainers for key players at landscape and national level Activity 1.3 Introduce, diversify and develop value-chains at landscape level and promote sustainable consumption and production patterns Activity 2.3 Develop best practice guidelines for biodiversityfriendly practices for key sectors (tourism, mines etc.) Activity 3.3 Generation of reliable statistics and environmental accounts for monitoring, management and communication Activity 4.3 Establishment of a basket fund mechanism to assure long-term sustainability of the biodiversity economy Activity 5.3 Support academic institutions to conduct relevant research through scholarships and the establishment of a biodiversity excellence cluster at NUST Activity 1.4 Identification of (legal, social, economic) barriers for the introduction of the biodiversity economy and required enabling conditions Activity 3.4 Preparation and implementation of communication strategy at national and landscape level
